I remember watching this in the theaters and trying to hold back my tears but when Waymond gave the speech about laundry and taxes I lost it 😭 this movie is such a masterpiece
That's the most romantic line I have ever heard in anything, ever
Watching and experiencing in a full theater audience that gets it was so awesome. During the rock scene, you could hear a pin drop, between ppl sobbing. People cheered and cried at the same scenes.
This movie makes you cry, but you fight the tears back. Then it immediately makes you laugh which releases the tears.
I think I was tearing up a little before that, but then that line REALLY unleashed the waterworks 😭
That paired up with the speech about kindness being his way of fighting, that he sees himself as a fighter just like her.
The last line really seals the whole movie for me. For basically her entire life Evelynn has been running from here to there, not taking the time to appreciate what she does have in the moment. So whenever she's caught not listening, she pretends like she was. But her asking Deirdre to repeat herself, and thus acknowledging that she was not present, is _huge_ for her character
Seriously one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. When Waymond says “Idk. I just talked w her.” I bawl every time. And when we Juju says “I didn’t create the Bagel to destroy everything. I created it to destroy myself. At least now, I don’t have to do it alone.” 🥺🥺😭😭
For such a bizarre, surrealist wacky comedy, it's also incredibly earnest. So many movies these days are so afraid to be sincere, and yet here we have this one that just makes you want to feel ALL the feelings. I love it so much. We're lucky to live in a worls where this exists.
I’m a grown man and I was in the theater asking myself “how am I crying when I was just laughing 30sec ago?!!”
This movie absolutely deserved to win every award it received. My only regret was that they couldn't award a second best supporting Oscar for Stephanie Hsu.
She was the emotional heart of the movie so I agree to disagree because Jamie Lee Curtis should've won the secondary award you purposed
@@mitchthe3518Hsu should have won that. If it was between Hsu and Jamie Lee, based on performance alone, there was ABSOLUTELY no competition. Stephanie killed it. But of course, it was about time Jamie Lee got one.. and you weren't snubbing a big name.. just an unknown Asian girl, so Hollywood does what it does
Hsu was AMAZING in this film, but I feel as thogh the Academy sometimes takes other factors into consideration
Hsu definitely should have won. It’s unfortunate that Jaime hadn’t received one up to that point but that has more to do with the academy. There aren’t a lot of leading or supporting roles for asian actors so it would have been more likely that Jaime Lee could’ve had another opportunity.
If we look back at all the winners for best actress, in the 96 years, there have only been 2 women of color (Halle, Berry, and Michelle Yeoh). There have only been 10 women of color for best supporting actress in 96 years.
I absolutely love this movie. Great reaction.
One thing that kind of blew me away was how Jobu was made. If you look back at all the times they switch, you will notice Evelyn has two basic branches they explore, with Waymond or without him. All the with Waymond branches are ones her daughter existed in, and the other ones were the ones that she did something differently in life. All her skills she used to fight with came from non-Waymond ones, and thus non-Joy branches.
So, all the branches where she was with Waymond and had Joy, she was resentful over not exporling her many interests.
So, when she pushed Joy so hard she broke in the Alpha universe, she created Jobu in more than one way. Joy saw every universe she existed in, explored them, to find one where her mom loved her they way she wanted her to, was proud of her. Instead, in every universe, she found a resentful Evelyn who was too busy day dreaming to see anything but what annoyed her about Joy.
So, it was that bleakness that really create Jobu Tupaki. After seeing an infinite universes with nothing but a resentful distracted mother, who could blame her.
So this Evelyn wasn't super powerful or anything, she was just the one who stopped her incessant desire for a nonexistant life and instead just loved her daughter.
You have to love a movie that wields the power of the multiverse to tell a simple story of a daughter finding her mother's forgotten love for her.
Ke Huy Quan is so good in this. He deserves everything.
He deserves everything, everywhere… all at once 😅
He is Vietnamese, as a Vietnamese i'm proud of him
He got everything! He won like 80 out of 110 nominations.
I love Jackie Chan...but Quan is so much better in this role than Chan would have been.
Emotionally drained is an understatement for me, this movie outright rearranged my emotions! Glad you liked it
I like how every element of this film accentuated each other, the absurd highlighted the poignant, but then also reminded us the poignant can actually be absurd. Watching it with friends and people you care about and coming out the other end of the film, it really feels like going through a big experience together in a short span.
I'm glad you loved it and shared your experience with us.
when the girls said the paper cut was the worst thing they've ever seen I immediately got excited for the butt plugs
As someone who's half-Japanese and suffers from depression, I felt so seen by this film for a variety of reasons. It does one of the best job's representing generational trauma, as well as depression, obviously. But Joy's journey is so relatable to me. Especially her short monologue about the bagel and what it represents.
"I'm learning to fight like you" gets me every time.
Such a great movie
This is probably my favorite movie of all time. This is the only movie I think I’ve cried both the comedy and drama.
Everyone loves Alpha Waymond...until regular Waymond gives his speech...
I laughed my butt off when Dani raised up her hands and did hot dog fingers at 30:10. She just seemed so swept up in it lol
Genuinely my favourite film ever.
I'd heard all the hype and consider myself an enormous movie fan, ended up watching it twice, back to back, because there was so much to take in and pretty much immediately knew it was the best film I'd ever seen and got a wide emotional reaction from me in a way no other film had.
I was so emotionally exhausted by the end it almost felt like physical exhaustion.
One of the most genius things about this movie is that they take it sooooo far with the craziness but it’s all to hammer home that last emotional moment where Evelyn tells Joy that she STILL wants to be with her. It’s so good. The idea of there being infinite universes of craziness, success, happiness, etc and your mom (who you’ve had a rough time with) would pick you over allllllll of that is very powerful
The universe where Evelyn goes where the party is taking place is the universe where she chose to NOT go to the janitor’s closet.
I cry everytime. Beautiful movie.
Same. Even when I watch reactions it still gets me
This film was very very deep. Especially on a meta level. A nice examination of the human condition
The googly eyes are supposed to be antithesis of the everything bagel. 👀👏
They are opposite ways of looking at our current reality. Duality between the glass half full vs half empty, etc.
Watching this great film with you ladies was very lovely experience, couldn't picked a better group of people to watch this movie with for the first time.
I'm s glad Ke Huy Quan returned to acting.
Such an amazing movie. Dani at the end was how I was too when I first saw it. Glad ya'll watched this!
Really great reaction and what a unique story. I know you guys have a schedule, but I hope that you guys react to a bunch of horror movies for the Halloween season, would love to see those! A few great suggestions are: "IT: Chapter One", "It Follows", "Cabin in the Woods", "Don't Breathe", "Barbarian", "Get Out", "The Descent", "Ready or Not" annnnndddd "The Conjuring". All great movies which make for really fun reactions. Im sure you guys've seen a bunch of these, but there are many great ones to choose from. Thanks!
You have to do mostly Asian cast Emmy nominated "Beef" or at least binge it on your own time.
There’s a guy who walks around my neighborhood talking on a Bluetooth headset all the time. 😄 I’d guess he’s about 50, so he’s not young but he’s not exactly a boomer either.
"you're getting fat" = i love you
"you need to grow your hair" = i love you
The the laundry and taxes scene and the scene before that starting at 50:52 was pretty great and one of the best ever in movies
It's so funny that you guys blurred out the "trophies" lol
Dang, I just want to give Dani a hug towards the end lol felt them tears! But loved this movie!
The "ZING" sound really sells the paper cuts.
Part that made me cry the most was...rocks... 😅 so well done. I think the actress playing Joy, Stephanie Hsu, was my favorite part. She was fantastic. Sort of odd how others won awards and she didn't. She was literally the best. The bit where she yells Stop... perfect...
57:24 I'm sobbing... Why is this movie so so perfect?
50:58 how did y'all now bawl like... 45 times yet? 😭I sobbed like 10 times watching the movie
(I'm crying rn too☹️)
Yes . I'm so happy yall are posting movie reactions. I always thought that was a good market for yall to go into every now and then
I just saw "Joyride" written/directed by "Crazy Rich Asians" writer and stars Stephanie Hsu (Joy) on a road trip comedy with three other Asian actors. One of them was just in the Asian Netflix show "Beef" starring Steven Yeun from Walking Dead and Burning.
The vfx team was only like at most 5 people total and the 2 guys that fought in the butt plug fight scene are actually the films stunt coordinators
Crying about rocks, so relatable
25:38 - what could be worse than death? Getting expelled 😂☠️😉
6:50 I've watched this twice by myself plus countless reactions, how have I never noticed this
Glad yall watched this movie. It automatically shot up to my top 5 favs! Seen it like 4 times already, and I've been wanting to rewatch it again lately lol
god damn the laundry and taxes lines gtes me every time lol
This movie goes from a butt plug fight scene to Waymond’s tear jerking monologue about lost love
Props to all of the actors in this they did amazing and I'm especially happy for the indiana jones actor he nailed it and the story of this was insane I needed a break after this lol so much happpens had to watch it 3 times
My fourth date in the theater seeing this cried four times.
Omg yes this is my favorite movie ever im probably gonna cry during your reaction ❤
I'm just simply glad you did this.
Great reaction as usual
Im really glad i didnt watch this in theaters. Made me cry like a lil bitch😂
Just in time for my dinner😁
i was really hoping you guys would react to this a while ago and u finally did!! you guys NEED To watch beef!!! its such a good show to react to and its not that long!!! its so good
Awesome!
I didn’t see this for months after it was released ! So wonderful !! ❤🎉
It’s such a beautiful story 🤧
Lovely ass reaction yall🌟
Are the googly eyes the antithesis to the bagel? One being a white circle with dark center vs the bagel being dark and empty in the center?
Bingo
Yes, and also the concepts of Yin & Yang. The symbolism game in this movie is brilliant.@@TheJerbol
GREAT MOVIE
Dani is so cute. Those glasses are working for me.
Watching u from France keep going gurls
I recommend the anime series Angels of Death. You'll love it.
this is old, so i don’t know if this comment is repetitive or if you even care. but something you should pay attention to if you ever watch this movie again, is the googly eyes are the antithesis to the bagel
I wish the video quality was a little better
Best movie!
Ittsssss slime timeee
😍Dani🥰
Easy top 10 movie for me, great reaction. Kinda hard to see tho :P
in the universe where she is a kung fu star, she and waymond are not married. they separated when they where young. in alpha waymond's universe, the cattles are all dead. no dairy, no milk. i feel like you would've absorbed the story much more if you guys realized this as these facts were revealed. like, imagine a world where you and your husband did not end up together. or a world where milk/dairy does not exist. it's hard to wrap your head around it but these little details are so important
Guys please reaction movie call 3 Idiots (2009) and Dangal (2016).. best movie ever
I'm sorry but Dani is so fking cute, reactor and editor and likes anime? -heart-
👍👍👍👍
Lol y’all blurring her awards!
31:03 😏😏😏😏😏😏
I said it before and i'll say it again, Stephanie Hsu WAS ROBBED from getting her well deserved oscar because she's a newcomer, instead they gave it to JLC who was barely in the film ..... shame
"Asian Americans had trouble finding parts that didn't have to do with martial arts...". This movie...
10/10 would marry top right
I was excited to see this movie. I purchased it and then watched it with my dad. About halfway through the movie, he decided to stop watching it. I finished it alone.
When it was over, I immediately went to Twitter to see if others were as disappointed in the movie as we were, but was surprised by the opposite reactions. I don't like this movie... at...all.
Everyone can't always like the same thing. But, watch a few other reactions to it... you might change your mind. What are a couple of your favorite movies? Just curious.
Never mind, I checked out your channel.
Have you seen all the reactions to Attack on Titan season 2 episode 6? SOO FUNNY! There are a few compilation videos out there.
It will be forever amazing how this movie could be both heartwreching AND a crazy-insane fever trip at the same time. 🥯
What am I missing here? It won a ton of awards, and many people I know raved about it. I just couldn't get into it. Once again, I'm in the minority when it comes to hit movies.
