One thing that really captivated me watching No One Mourns was Ari’s face reacting to the crowds hate for Elphaba. There were moments were she looked sad/angry at their words because that’s her friend. And her taking the torch and burning the statue I thought was beautiful! Because that image that THEY CREATED does not represent the woman she knew. NOMTW has always been one of my favorites (not my favorite Glinda song it is only behind TG, but after this I can’t wait to hear her sing that in part 2. I used the initials for those that may not know the whole musical lol.) But after No One Mourns all I could do was look at the person next to me and say “she ate” 😂💀
Favorite Wicked Review hands down!! I’m a Theatre girly myself and made it my profession. How you guys broke down the comparisons vocally, visually and emotionally, was amazing!! Love it! I absolutely admired and was in Awe of Cynthia and Ariana’s performance! First off, the fact that they casted an African America woman to play Elphaba (not being accepted because of her skin) was brilliant and so powerful! 💚🩷🌻
36:12 I love how the message of ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’, of not judging someone based on superficiality is consistently shown to us through all of the characters. Elphaba is the most obvious, as it’s explicitly shown and told to us throughout the story, but the same message is true for Galinda, who the audience judges based on superficiality until the ballroom scene where we see what she’s really made of and the good heart underneath, and Fiyero, who is also judged based on superficiality and his ‘performance’ as the handsome, ‘perfect’ Prince who doesn’t care about anything, until he steps up to rescue the lion cub (being the first to take action in doing so) and Elphaba calls him out on being unhappy. The same is true for the Wizard and Madam Morrible, for whom smoke and mirrors and facade and manipulation is their whole thing, and even for Boq and Nessa. None of the characters actually are what they appear to be at first, and ‘true colours’ are revealed in one way or another, for good or ill, throughout the story. (Often with Elphaba being the catalyst for unveiling these things, and ‘peeling back the curtain’, as it were… In many ways, because she has the least pretence of all of them) xxx
When they discussed Ariana's performance in No One Mourns The Wicked, they made such good points I actually stopped the video to tell my girlfriend about it. Fantastic stuff.
18:50 Part of the gag with "What Is This Feeling?" is its beginning sounds like _love_ at first sight, and then every repetition of 'loathing' feels like the lady doth protest too much. Like, Glinda really doesn't know how to cohabitate fairly, and she is very envious of Elphaba-but it's a silly, petty rivalry (that the school is on Glinda's side for) rather than anything deep.
When the movie started, I was like, um, I’m not sure what I think about this yet. But then I was like, is that… the overture? Yes! Not only it’s the overture, what each section of music came from matched up with the visuals, with nods to both the musical and Wizard of Oz film. That’s when I’m like, I’m fully on board! This movie is made by people that truly love the musical and I’m here for the ride! I really loved how they used the melody of specific sections in the added, more talking and visual scenes, foreshadowing what’s to come. For example, they slipped I Am Not That Girl into Popular. And I also loved the visual at the end of I Am Not That Girl. Elpheba is looking at the two couples singing “I am not that girl” but the two couples she’s looking at… is Glinda Fiyero’s girl? Is Nessa Boq’s girl? We know how that ended in the stage show. I loved that moment. I am really happy with the film!
As a huge fan of the musical, I liked the movie. I think it was a pretty faithful reproduction of the stage play. I'm not sure how much it will appeal to people who are not fans of the musical or musical theater in general.
To me, Loathing as a song carries the seeds and foreshadows their friendship because it is such a fun and comical number in the musical tradition of Anything You can Do - the friendly musical competition between two singers who are turning it out together as a team creating an iconic duet performance - mindful and meta..These kids are clearly pals by the time this number finishes.
Like Rent 😕 It just didn’t work. I’ve seen the show over 15 times, I’ve seen the movie maybe 3 times. The only other one I’ve seen pull it off is Hairspray 2008.
Dear Mateo, My name is Jacky Shan, and I am an aspiring musician and a fan of your fantastic channel. I’ve been following your work for a while, and I truly admire the quality and creativity of your video analysis on music! I am currently working on a project to convert the notes from Ryan Gosling's Oscar performance of "I'm Just Ken" into sheet music. However, I am struggling to accurately transcribe the performance and would greatly appreciate your expertise and guidance in this matter. If possible, I would love to discuss how you might be able to assist me in creating a reliable sheet music version of this piece. Your experience and insights would be invaluable to me as I aim to capture the essence of this beautiful performance. Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to the possibility of collaborating with you and learning from your expertise. Warm regards, Jacky Shan
Guys… this was magnificent. Hands down the best Wicked movie content I’ve seen so far. Bravo, for such a beautifully nuanced and detailed review.

this is one of the most interesting videos I’ve seen of the movie
Both of you made great comments…would love to see Ben back again in future!
These two boys' voices though. Damn, such good voices.
What a great show to see for a school field trip!

53:54 Really enjoyed your conversation and different perspectives! Thanks for sharing 💚💖
Together youre unlimited
40:04 i was too busy laughing at Kristin shutting up Glinda to feel it was overboard, but I can see your point

Love this🧡
Can I have your cousin for Christmas?! His eyes and even the voice is for me.
There are good musicals made into bad films too! Great review guys. Thank you
Like Rent 😕

Did they talk about dancing through life ? Did I miss that section .. Maybe I just was excited to here someone else’s opinion on Fiyero :))
I would love to hear more from your cousin periodically. But please derail his train of thought a little less. I enjoyed this conversation.
💚 amazing video 🩷

I wonder how people will respond to the second part, when Wicked grows a plot its a hot mess. Its reaching, its reaching a lot.
