@18:00 Funnily enough, the Wizard is just a regular guy who came from Omaha, so him saying his hometown was enough for everyone to be like "holy shit, he's reading this ancient language... he must be a wizard"
4:30 that’s an astute observation because the actress who played Glinda in the original musical said the same thing! Glinda sounds the highest when she’s most put on and the lowest when she’s most sincere !
I understand saying that Glinda doesn't seem like a good friend because she's trying to "change" Elphaba, but you gotta remember that popularity & status is all Glinda knows. Seeing her new friend be so widely disliked, the kindest thing she can think to do for her is to help her be viewed better. She's definitely flawed and misguided, but she was trying to help in her own way ^_^
Well said. It's also wonderful that while Glinda is trying to give Elphie the tips for the transformation, she ends up being the one who changes the most during the song - for the better.
And even in the end she doesn’t end up changing anything. She puts a flower in her hair and that’s it. I think it’s her way of saying Elphie was always beautiful.
bro the foreshadowing in the lyrics is crazyy "a celebration throughout oz that's to do with me" "unlimited, my future is unlimited" "i'd be so happy i could melt" "when people see me they will scream" "life's more painless for the brainless" "life is fraughtless when you're thoughtless" "mindless and careless" like omg
22:47 yeah i can def see that, i love that people loved this scene so much! its nice to know that defying gravity still has the same effect as it did originally, in 2003 when the musical first rolled out everyone was just in disbelief of how they had the witch literally fly on stage and belt out that anthem, it was revolutionary, then in 2023 the brazilian production had elphaba fly through the audience in the theatre while belting it out and now we get to see it in its full glory in the big screen. It feels like a full circle moment
The point of popular isn't supposed to be a joke, its supposed to show that Galinda was raised to be a pretty girl who flips her hair and gets her way, and this is the only way she knows how to be a friend, but then Elphaba shows her
Hold up you’re telling me I’ve been obsessed with this musical for 15 years and now you made me realize that Glinda’s opera notes only come out when she’s performing for the public?? Holy shit my reading comprehension is not it😭
I can tell you right now that you will get more of the hard-hitting performances out of Ariana that you're hoping for in the next movie, that much will be certain! 22:47 Also they did this moment SO much justice, the visuals match the way it's done on stage so PERFECTLY, with the massive cape billowing and the light shining behind her and everyone staring up in awe... it's an ICONIC moment in the stage show and they captured it so well.
Saying you're sad Ariana's only solo song is Popular because it sucks is a WILD take. Its an iconic broadway song that is largely one of the reasons Ariana wanted to do this film in the first place
Without spoiling the plot of the second movie / the second half of the musical, let’s just say that Elphaba’s magic has less to do with her mother drinking the green elixir and more to do with the rules of isekai.
The elixir made her green, the fact that she was born of “two worlds” gave her the magic. Her father (the wizard) is from our dimension, and her mother is from the Oz dimension, which is what gives her the magical ability.
@@jasonpaulkim boo. Well there’s some more interesting Oz story twists I hope remain unspoiled for you so don’t go into it thinking you know all the good stuff. That’s all I’ll say so hopefully it lessens your disappointment
Ok opera hater buk hater dancing through life hater 😂😂😂😂 I am kidding .i enjoy watching your honest reaction .plus the writer of popular tried to change that popular song to pop but ariana refused haha😂. Omg i got the same goospums watching defying gravity omg omgggg
No spoilers but in the play, the little green bottle isn't exactly why Elphaba is green, though it ties into the twist, which reveals the real explanation for her skin color.
