Injured Great Blue Heron

Looks like its tongue and breathing apparatus are hanging out of a hole in its throat, possibly the result of a fight with another Great Blue Heron over nesting territory or mating partners.
Shot at the Venice Rookery on 2/20/17 and first noticed on 2/3/17.
