    Guys, for the first hack.. my sat tutor taught me that when you get those types of questions don’t do any math! If it says 3x-y=12 then the answer will be the one to the power of 12! Quick, easy, and simple.

    • @SupertutorTV
      @SupertutorTV  5 років тому +8

      I LOVE CAT TOES that might not work in all situations. I would be careful applying a rule like that as it seems a bit too specific. It works here but the SAT loves to throw curveballs

    • @SupertutorTV

    Another equation to expression hack that can be very helpful, for example the 3x-y= 12, you can give x a value and y a value so that the equation can be true . Ex: x=4 and y=0, the next step is to replace x and y with the previous values on the fraction and you’ll have 2 power 12 as a result

    The first one has a much easier solution (which is mentioned for half a second on the video):
    Just make the bases the same FROM THE BEGINNING. So 8^x/2^x becomes 2^3x/2^y and then use the rule shown, so it becomes 2^(3x-y) and you can see that you have 3x-y=12, so the answer is 2¹²

    For the first question you showed us, question 13, you could have taken the expression (8^x)/(2^y) and simplified it such that (a^m)/(a^n) = a^(m-n). Since 2^3 = 8, substitute that value for all values of 8 in the expression. Finally, you get 2^(3x - y). Because 3x - y = 12, we know the final answer is A.

    I've seen some teachers explain math and make the students learn the long way(i.e multiplication etc.) when there are actually multiple things do it but they tend to teach only one

    Number 1 is much quicker if you do the exponent rule without plugging in. It simplifies to 2^(3x-y) and you just plug in 12.

    there is an easier method for the first problem
    8^x/2^y = 2^3x/2^y = 2^(3x-y)
    since 3x-y=12, we have 2^12

  • @daark3113
    @daark3113 3 роки тому +1

    For the first one i don't think substitution was the fastest way. Because if you get the 8 in terms of 2, then it would be 2^3. So that would be 2^3x / 2^y. And we know fromt the exponent rules that when we divide we have to subtract the exponents. So it would then be 2^3x-y. And the problem already told us that 3x-y=12. So we get 2^12. Personally I think that is way faster than substitution, and ppl would have less chance of making mathematical errors.

    This is how I would have done the second one.
    Know that cos(a-b)=cos(a)cos(b)+sin(a)sin(b) and sub in to get cos(90-x)=cos(90)cos(x)+sin(90)sin(x). Since cos(90)=0, the value is equal to sin(90)*sin(x) and since sin(90)=1, we are left with sin(x) which is obviously 4/5.

    Goodness... the second problem is still difficult for me, and I'm going to take the SATs in about 10 months from now as I type this. And I need to learn and relearn everything I can since I am aiming for Harvard... Thank you!

    • @jiahuang6863
      @jiahuang6863 5 років тому +4

      Riøt the second one is asking for cos(90 - x) if u have sin x. No math is required, u just need to know that cos(90 - x) is always equal to sin x and sin (90 - x) is always equal to cos x. So if sin x is 4/5 then cos(90 - x) must also be 4/5. No math, 5 second problem.

    if you didnt get the problem, this are called confunctions. Sine is the cofunction of cosine; secant of cosecant; and tangent of cotangent. A confunction simply means the corresponding cofunction of 90 - the angle.
    That's why sine of x = cos (90-x)

  • @CJ-ki9hy
