At 75 years young, i am loving your clips.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks again Kevin. Travis picking is a gateway to so many classic acoustic hit songs. It’s so easy to sound good just noodling once you get the patterns down.
You are welcome. Have fun with it!
The key to all songs! Love the John Prine intro.
Thanks for watching!
He Kevin - I just got my email from you, little history of myself - I’m 68 (soon to be 69 LOL). I have been playing tenor and baritone ukuleles 7 years and my husband surprised me with a Zager easy play guitar for Christmas, so I dive right in to playing and loving it so now I’m try to fingerpick and it’s not going the greatest and by a miracle I found you on UA-cam 😉😁 - I spent the morning going through some of your songs and you are so easy to follow so I think I’m back on track. I have been playing a lot of country tunes and gospel tunes already and was happy to see you do more of the oldies rock. Thank you and bless you for all you do.
Hi Pam! Welcome to RLG and thanks for watching. Stick with it and I will see you soon!
Thank you. MY Son has been playing the Bass and Guitar for 10 years. He loves it so much. He was stricken with Schizophrenia and stopped playing. I went and purchased a Drum Set and began to learn the Drums, Bass and Electric Guitar just so we could play together. I have been playing for about a year now, practicing five to ten minutes a day ( I work a lot of hours). We play together Fridays and Saturdays. Thank you for showing us in such a calm and practical way.
By the way, I started at 53.
You are so welcome and thanks for sharing your story! Keep on picking! Thanks for tuning in :)
Great lesson. At 54 yrs and now 3 months into this journey, I’m glad I was pointed to your channel. The Fender app runs its course in another 30 days, after which I’m happy to subscribe so you can keep this up!
Thanks and happy to help! We would love to see you in the membership! Keep on pickin
Just want to say one thing - Gotta love your teaching style! I’m getting a lot out of it. From a retired old fogie learning to do some picking.
That’s great! Happy to help

You are welcome
Thanks!

Sounds fabulous ---do you have any TAB to practise Travis picking technique?
Thanks. I can make a not. I currently offer tabs for all of my lessons inside our membership.
Kevin
I like your lesson. Thanks.
For some reason I find it easier and natural for me to do a two finger thumb and index Travis picking. Will that give me the same sound as the three finger method you're doing? Do you have a two finger lesson?
Again thank you
It can. Just have to move your fingers more because your index finger plays different notes too. If it sounds good it is good. :). I don’t have a lesson on that yet.
Great. Your shirt reminds me. Imagine would be a good song..!!
Thanks. And here is that amazing Lennon song ua-cam.com/video/ZrC-Xu-SC-U/v-deo.html
Hey Kevin, I've watched Merle pick and like John prine. It looks like they only use their Thumb and index. Can you have a look at this.
You are right. I find that way a little more advanced. This is more of a beginner lesson. Good place to start. Have another Travis picking lesson in the works that sounds more Prine.
@Relaxandlearnguitar Ha! I'm just trying to get into a bit of picn and thumb n index seems so much in the KISS that I like for me. (Keep it simple Stupid) system that I rely on!
Some teachers do 5243
You do 5342
Does this matter? Will I not get confused later on?
Both are correct. There are different patterns. Travis picking is when you alternate those bass strings with the high strings.
Why do half the video teach the bass alternating differently? The other half teach 5,4,6,4 for a C etc instead of 5,4,5,4 Which way is correct?
Both are correct. The alternating bass is for folks further along.
What does the thumb play on a D chord?
Alternates 4 and 3

A little each day…..
@@Relaxandlearnguitar 😂🤣😂
Try practicing the patterns in front of the 📺 😊
@blueser100 Thanks Blueser 😊
Right there with you Rosie lol
What is the pattern for a D chord?
Strings 4 3 2 1. A little tight.
Would 4231 (D) not follow the 6342 (G) and 5342 (C) logic? Humbly asking. Love your tutorials Kevin. José
@@joserosenberg903 yep. Sorry about that. It is 4 2 3 1. Thanks for the catch :)
