Hey Matt that was the best example of this Travis picking I’ve come across. I looked all over and your method and explanations are so clear and easy. Please do more as this Guy is hungry to learn. Many thanks .
Matt of all the choices we have here, you are one of my favorites..., i really enjoy your method of teaching...not everyone has an ability to teach. You do. i know everyone has already said it below but i hope you'll know...., i appreciate it, thank you Matt
Matt Smith your teaching method and ability is astounding! This is the best Travis picking video I've seen and I've seen plenty. Thank you so much for all your videos.
I love Matt because I not only get amazing guitar instructions but I get math lesson, today I learnt that my right hand is 50% of my available hands. I learnt the Latin names for my fingers. Thank you Matthew
Now that's how to spend 9 minutes of your musical education. Thoughtful, concise, important and practical all in one well spoken lesson. Thank you good sir!
Amazing! I've been Travis picking for about a year and a half and had never heard anyone explain the 1 2+3+4+ method which explains why when i play "Dust in the Wind" I would never sound right no matter how I played which was more of a 1+2+3+4. Thank you and keep up the great work.
One of your classes chimes on my phone and, whenever possible, I drop what I'm doing and give it a listen. Later, the guitar comes out. I expect many do the same and we are always very grateful to you. Always.
You Sir are a master instructor that can truly get across the message. So many try to teach but you for certain succeed at it. Thank you for your time.
I see people saying in loads of Travis picking lessons that it's the best one. Well this is definitely the best one I've seen, explain the two 'feels' is genius. I salute you sir!
Matt, this is the best demo of finger picking, Travis or otherwise, that I have seen. You are clear and smooth in your delivery without showboating... Thank you!
I really liked that. I’ve been working my way through the videos on UA-cam and they all have something to offer but this seems clearer somehow. Mind you,it is day 2 and I’m getting better.
Pretty sure there's a regulation somewhere that says when possible Travis picking is to be done on a Martin. My dad did it on a 12 string for 40+ years ;-)
Hi Matt I have a hard time with muting strings. I am just stuck and I can’t find my angles. Do you think you can talk a little about how exactly to position finger tips and where exactly on the tips I should be to reduce my muting please it would be so helpful to see a zoom in shot of your finger tips too 🙏🏼
Fabulous presentation Matt, thank you so much for these generous explanations. Interesting to see you also have “Instrument Acquisition Virus”. May the chords be with you.
Matt, I’m 75 and recently took up the guitar again after a 40-year lay-off. I’m determined to learn this picking pattern and I have a question - are you using the fingernails of your 1st and middle finger, or the fleshy part of the fingertip to pluck the string? I don’t like the sound when I catch a nail on a string; it’s in sharp contrast to the soft sound of the thumb’s bass notes. Do you keep your right-hand fingernails short to avoid a nail catching the string, or do you play those treble notes with your fingernails? Thanks for your help, and for the great videos! 👍
I understand these paterns and i do them pretty well. How to i pick a melody like wild wood flower over this. I can travis pick over the chords but i caint pick the tune help
Hello Matt I would like to thank very much you for your beautiful work , so inspiring . I do like very much the intro you play at the beginning of this lesson , would you be able to provide me with the tabs ? Thank you for your time and kindness
It's very difficult for me to remember the order after studying several times. It's too quick and a visual aid would help. I am in England desperate to practice the pattern but cant clearly get the pattern Seems to vary between the different teachers on youtube.
I love your videos but why can’t we ditch the Latin? Is it only for doctors? Maybe THAT’s why my pickin’ is so sloppy? Lol By the way, your the only teacher that I know that addresses that “swishy” sound because your (mine) fingers are hitting the string on a slant! I’m doomed! Thank you! It’s not just in my mind. Lol
Matt is a gifted teacher and an amazing human being!
Matt’s got an awesome, genuine and authentic style. Makes learning easy and fun.
Matt is an unusually gifted instructor because he sees the forest and the trees and can explain them both-the big picture and the details. Fantastic!
best guitar teacher on YT! Very clear and concise. no war stories. A+++++++++

My favorite travis lesson so far
Amazing! I've been Travis picking for about a year and a half and had never heard anyone explain the 1 2+3+4+ method which explains why when i play "Dust in the Wind" I would never sound right no matter how I played which was more of a 1+2+3+4. Thank you and keep up the great work.
So clear that even a Thai guy like me can get it , thanks a lot, Matt.

Great lesson. Do you have tab for this? Is the 1 always played with two strings?
Swing feel = David Lee Roth on Happy Trails, boom-ba-dee-da, boom-ba-dee-da
Hi Matt --do you have any TAB for your great picking pattern ?
Wow!
Merry X-mas :)
Excellent
Hello Matt
I would like to thank very much you for your beautiful work , so inspiring .
I do like very much the intro you play at the beginning of this lesson , would you be able to provide me with the tabs ?
Thank you for your time and kindness
good lesson mate
Fretting hand and picking hand
Great lesson, thanks, Matt. PDFs would have been a great help, I had to keep pausing and rewinding to write everything down.
Hey,Matt...can you show us some more 2-string harmonics that work well with travis fingerpicking style;like Amy, or Alices Restaurant? 'preciate it
Great lesson! Thanks.
Oh hello, I didn’t see you come in..
You look so different in Dr Who
I'm trying to get it. The Taylor's going in the pool.
A certain age, HA I'm old.
i'm older. 75
@@dufus2273 You win I'm 60 years young cheers.

It's very different with every tutor, I think there's not a clear set rule. There's just personal variations. This is a great tutorial though.
Too quick from the start I think.
too confusing without tabs
