How to Use the HEOS Home Entertainment Skill with Amazon Alexa - Tutorial

- Take a look at how to get the HEOS Home Entertainment Skill up and running with your Amazon Alexa device, so you can begin controlling your HEOS-enabled receiver or other HEOS devices with your voice. Play a specific song. Select an artist or playlist. Choose your room or HEOS group. Do it all with your voice! You can even adjust volume, pause and skip tracks, mute and more. Plus, power on/off your receiver, switch inputs (Blu-ray, DVD, Media Player, etc.) and enjoy other common remote control commands for all of your home theater.
To begin using Alexa voice commands, open the Alexa app and select “Skills.” Search for the HEOS Home Entertainment skill and then enable it. Then, go to Smart Home in the Alexa app menu and choose Devices and Discover. Or just say “Alexa, discover my devices.”
With the HEOS Home Entertainment skill and Alexa taking your HEOS-enabled device to new heights, streaming music and controlling home theater with your voice has never been easier. All you have to do is ask.

Actually, it seems it's a regional/rights issue ... It doesn't work in Switzerland, but it does in other countries ... Go figure why Switzerland is excluded :((

Is there any plan to upgrade this? The HeOS iPhone App is horrific and the Alexa app is a nightmare to get working with my Marantz receiver. I eventually got it working then a year later it’s back to being a nightmare to setup again.

Ok, it is working fine for me. However using this exact process only tunin works. How Can I define Spotify to play music instead? I know that is possible using a mobile but i want to avoid it using just my voice

When selecting the device to assign a more convenient name to it, can you select a particular ZONE (instead of an entire device)?
I have two bathrooms wired with stereo speakers and I consider getting the X4400 receiver to power them along with the 5.1 setup in the living room. I would really like to be able to go take a shower without having to take a smartphone with me to control the playback.
My experience with HEOS has not been best. But it is convenient to play music & control the power, volume, sound field, etc. in the same app. Problem is I subscribe to Qobuz and HEOS does not support it and does not seem to have plans to support it. Don't want to use Airplay to play the HiRes music from Qobuz. I recently have been on trial subscription to Amazon and have been streaming Amazon via HEOS a lot. Unfortunately once the trial is over, I will quit HEOS again and return to Room and an external player connected to the Marantz. Will HEOS ever support Qobuz? Also, will HEOS improve on user experience? How about inclue back arrow in all screens and just improve the back arrow to back step to do exactly the, to back exactly one step, instead of backing you all the way out to the sources?
What can Alexa do with a Denon AVR, like my s730H?
It won’t play Spotify. It keeps saying Spotify is offline but i have the skill enabled. Why is that

I can play lots of things...but not spotify. It will work next etc, but it needs to be started on the phone...
It'll pay Amazon music through heos, but not Spotify. Dennons programmers apparently can't adopt Spotify while all other services can. Sounds like some corporate BS to me. Dennon where you at???
I have the new Denson AVR-x3500h and gave it a name of "Receiver". I can get Alexa to turn the unit on/off, lower/raise volume, but can NOT get it to play songs "on receiver". They just play on the echo!

How do I create a routine that turns on the denon theatre, sets theatre volume to 50, and sets theatre to blueray?
Sylvain Mino I know you can set the receiver (4500h for me as well) to turn on at a set volume, mine is 18 just so I know it won’t blast my ears if I turn it on and something is currently playing. But as far as creating the type of routine your thinking of, I do not think it is possible as of right now. :/
Easy...go to alexa app and create a routine...
Make sure you set "tv" to turn on, in settings on denon, make sure it gets hdmi cec and set start volume to 50...
Now when your TV turns on (or bluray) it will turn on your theater like you wanted. When I say start my tv, it also turns on dimmed led lights for ambiance, turns off other lights and closes the blinds...so you can do whatever you want. .
Or just default to bluray and set to 50 and say alexa, turn on denon or however you named it...really simple

So i need another smart speaker in order to give voice commands to my smart speaker? Not cool!
Do you need an Alexa device like the Dot to make this work with Heos. I was thinking you could to all this with just the Heos speaker alone

It tells me that all of my devices are off-line. Example: I tell Alexa to play Spotify, it starts to tell me what song it's about to play then tells me that the device is offline. This applies to any of the heos devices I have. It's not offline. I can play any heos device through my Spotify app!
When is Zone 2 and 3 control going to be added to HEOS? Only having voice control of Zone 1 is ridiculous in 2021. I payed a lot of money for a 8500H and now find out that Alexa can only see 1 zone. Anyone hoping to voice control a 2nd zone should look at other brands.

how does it work if I have a Dot and HEOS speaker both named "Living Room?" Also, I have two zones on my AVR, "Family Room" and "Kitchen," how does this work with multi-zone AVR's?

I believe you need to have a Amazon Music family account that allows streaming on multiple devices.

Sorry this demo blows! My Heos app asks me to connect to my Denon device using inputs it doesn't have! No Aux in or Connect button on the back of my Denon AVR-S740. What gives?

I couldn't for the life of me get the Alexa App to "discover" my Heos 3 (HS1 no bluetooth button on the back) speaker. Is it looking over the wifi network? Or is it searching for a Bluetooth enabled Heos device?
So I used my web browser on my desktop and I was able to get the HEOS amp connected to Alexa, but I still cannot "discover" the Heos 3 Speaker even though it is listed as a device within my HEOS app.
It only works fully with HS2 devices. There is a workaround to control HS1 device: denon.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6020
My HEOS only works when it feels like it...most times I open the app and it just says it keeps looking for my Marantz receiver and just keeps looking for the device and sometimes it finds it and sometimes it doesnt....it is so ridiculous when you wanna listen to music and it either works or doesnt...terrible app ....it needs to be redesigned from scratch.....

You may have to reset your password, if you had forgotten your current one, otherwise you will not have access to your HEOS account. To reset your password, follow the instructions on the HEOS app downloaded onto your mobile phone, or whatever device that you're using.
You do know that every time you say Alexa everyone’s echo responds, right? Couldn’t watch the video since you said Alexa about every minute. Change the wake word and say echo rather than alexa.
When are the bugs fixed? It is really unusable

Denon receivers with HEOS have a 300 song limit per queue/playlist... This is why I've upgraded to Yamaha... HEOS is useless for music playing...
Yes, Yamaha is fine, but Heos has better sound quality. I guess BlueSound is only concurrent with this system. Get extra money, get BlueSound
You wouldn't have to keep saying the speaker name on Google Home, once you said it once. You can just say, pause, or skip track. I feel so bad for Alexa owners.
You only have to tell Alexa which HEOS speaker to use if you have more than one
Tried it some hours today, either im too stupid, or it simply doesnt work. Always Alex is telling me, my Denon is unfortunately offline, so it cant play spotify

I get the error message "my denon is offline". The only way I can get it to work is to start playing spotify on my echo 8 and then ask Alexa to stream music to denon. It works, but I would like to just tell Alexa to play my denon in one command.

It's funny. We pay almost twice more money for Heos devices in Europe then Americans and Europeans get worse service or not at all by Denon. Oi, Alexa - such a big deal, most cheap Chinese gadgets have it as well. Shame on you Denon ignoring devoted European customers
This isn't how the HEOS skill works in the real world. In the real world, asking Alexa to "Play The Beatles on Family Room" gets the response, "Hmm, I don't know about that." This idealized demonstration is nice, but please make a video about HEOS works, or doesn't work, with Alexa in the real world.

@@danflynn3426 if you have Spotify as your default app try won't play. If you give into Amazon music as your default app it'll work fine. Sounds like Dennon and Amazon are in bed together despite the public outcry. Time to dump HEOS
