- The man behind so many hit songs from the 60's and 70's has passed away from Alzheimers.
In 2012, the night of his final Grammy performance, KTVT/CBS-11 aired what turned out to be Glen Campbell's final interview. I had the privilege of cutting this version of the story together, and it seems fitting to put it back out there now.

It's a shame that ANYONE is taken this way and there are many. Alzheimers has become shockingly common and its causes are the same causes of many different diseases - which is toxicity due not only to drugs and alcohol, but mainly due to the chemicals, pesticides, and glyphosates that farmers have put into the food chain, plus the contamination of our water and air by factories. It's time Americans wake up to these facts and do something about it.

There was no one like him!
No argument; like many of the great guitarists of the 20th century, his peers recognized him as one of their own. Far too many fans want to declare one or the other as the greatest of all time, while real musicians just are thrilled that we have recordings of all these guitar gods, who all have magic in their hands, leaving us with so much great music for eternity.
No argument from me.
Glen was stricken with Alzheimer's Disease and it is said he didn't recognize anyone in his last days. That's such a fearful, cruel thing to happen to someone, I hope they find a cure for it soon. Most senior citizens fear it, it is different than just senile dementia, because it kills!
I always loved his voice and the kind of earthy songs he was famous for singing. RIP, Glen!
Right now, we can't stop it, but we can slow it down. It's a degenerative disease, meaning that it's not known to be caused by an infection, so we don't know what causes it other than the aging of the patient. So only genetic work may lead to finding out how we can delay or stop it entirely.
@@d.e.b.b5788 - That's not true at all. Alzheimer's Disease is caused by a low-fat plant-based diet. It's a form of diabetes. We know vegetable oil, sugar, and wheat are all bad news. It doesn't really matter which is worst. Humans are basically carnivores. We don't need to eat plants, and we are much happier and healthier when we don't.
Also, Lipitor increases blood sugar, which often leads to the development of type 2 diabetes. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) includes a warning regarding raised blood sugar and diabetes on all statin medication. Even when a statin doesn't cause full-blown diabetes, it can eventually lead to something very similar to Alzheimer's.

I had the pleasure of seeing Glen in concert in 1980 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. He was playing in the South Shore Room at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino. I gave the usher a $20.00 tip and he seated me right in front of the stage. It was a great concert. At the end of the show, Glen walked up to front of the stage and shook my hand. Sitting right behind me during the concert was recording star, Eddie Rabbit. Eddie bought me and my girlfriend several drinks during the show and was most gracious to all the fans who approached his table. After the concert I won $200.00 playing Blackjack. It was a fantastic evening all around. Thank you Glen and Eddie.

I just cry. I watched my mom get consumed by Alzheimer's. She had learned to play piano at a young age and was our church organist for 50 years. When we moved her to a care facility, she would frequently sit down at the piano and play for as long as she liked. Over the span of a few years, she played less and less, eventually not playing at all, and not even knowing what the piano was or what it was for. Seeing Glen still playing and singing was unbelievable until the show that the teleprompter wasn't working. Had it not been for that, I would have thought he was remembering the lyrics as well as the guitar chords. Thankfully they got it fixed but there was nothing telling him how to play and I am still stunned at his ability to play considering how advanced the disease was. Ashley remained so composed as they did the farewell tour, guiding her dad gently along. The thing that made me laugh and still does is a clip from the video where Larry Gatlin says "who gives a rat's ass if he wanted to sing it a 2nd time??!!" after seeing a moment that Glen was going to start the song he'd just finished. I'm so glad I have been alive to see and hear him since the late 60's.

A gentle man in gentler times, many years of fond memories from this great musician. RIP Mr. Campbell
He had amazing precision and execution of notes on the guitar fingerboard. He didn't need distortion and processing to cover flaws like so many rock players today use. Every note was crystal clear and perfect. His right and left hemispheres worked together brilliantly.
Daughter looks just like her mom. I always give tribute to Glen when I play one of his songs
what a legend, he now is playing guitar with Elvis and all his friends who have passed on before. what a void he has left in the music world of today.
Glen Campbell was so amazing. I saw him in Branson, Missouri in June of 2006. He had Andy Williams with him at the Andy Williams theater. Glen Campbell put on a 45 minute show and Andy Williams put on a 45 minute show which was awesome. R.I.P Glen Campbell!
Glen is pure genius that nobody can ever match.
Depends on your style of guitar playing. Haven't heard Glen play rockabilly but I would say Brian Setzer would be a hard one to match
I love these snippets about Glen. My Dad has Dementia at almost 89. About 5 years ago he wanted to make amends with me. We did and it was the best Christmas ever. The following month he was diagnosed with Dementia.

Glen Campbell was our gift from GOD to the whole world.He is sorely missed by me and I know by countless others.I never had the privilege of meeting Sir Glen Campbell but purhaps I could meet Ashley Campbell and the rest of Glen Campbell's family before I go to heaven. Incredible performer.... before he became a star in his own right, he played guitar on so many famous tracks by other artists in the 60's.... such a shame that he died as he did
Here it is December 2019 and I still can't believe that his daughter Ashley isn't a super star. Well, lets just say star. Perhaps she is and I'm not aware of it. I'm an older guy now and I don't follow music as closely as I used too. However, I have seen enough of her to know she's absolutely fantastic. Musician supreme, pretty and with a great personality. She could star in a movie.

I saw you in 1960 backing up Ray Peterson (Tell Laura I love her). Peterson introduced you and called you Mr. Twelve String. Then they spotlighted you on an instrumental. I didn't know who you were....but it was obvious Peterson knew you were a rising star!
Alzheimer's is such a cruel disease but Glen Campbell managed to still sing with the help of his family I wish I'd have seen him He will be remembered as one of the greatest voices and indeed a nice gentleman

What tremendous talent. Glen has it all; Personality, kindness, caring and just " a good old boy." Loved watching his show and listening to all his music. So sad someone so vibrant has to have Alzheimer's. He does have a wonderful family.
This was a good man and I'll forever remember him as one of THE best contributors to the fabric of American music.

The great pleasure of taking my now passed Mum, to see him latter in his career (the noughties) at The Sydney Opera House. Privilged to have seen him in one of the world's great opera venues, main concert hall.

my mom passed away from Alzheimer's now my older brother has it I am just waiting for myself to get it I hope I do not but I took care of my mom for 10 years and it is a terrible disease I hope they will rid this disease in this lifetime because one out of three people will get the Disease by the time they are 80

Ronald Smith Ronald Smith thank you my friend for the reply I also took care of my brother who was in a wheelchair he broke his neck I took care of him for nine and a half years and also my mom for 10 years I was caregiver for 20 years but I would not change my life around I was the backbone behind the family wherever I went I took my mom I took care of my mom after my dad passed away God bless his soul. He was a very good man now my brother has it and he is not doing too good. I hope in this lifetime they will find a cure for it. Bill Gates has donated 150 million to the Alzheimer's Association.

Alzheimer's disease linked to common viruses
While everyone has misplaced keys from time to time, this type of forgetfulness is normal. On the other hand, forgetting your child's name or how to tie your shoe is a serious neurological problem called "Alzheimer's disease." While it is the most common form of dementia, it also has the most potential for damaging the brain's neurons. Changes in the affected person include memory loss, the ability to think clearly, as well as odd behavior.
In previous years, Alzheimer's was considered a chronic disease that resulted from cause and effect that included lifestyle factors. However, new research has proven an association with infectious disease. In fact, studies are showing up to 95 percent of the American population has been infected by a disease that could eventually result in Alzheimer's.
There is a clear and present danger for all Alzheimer's disease patients
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is one of the causes of "the kissing disease" - better termed mononucleosis. While the symptoms of mononucleosis subside after a few weeks or months, CMV silently contributes to Alzheimer's disease according to The Journal of Infectious Diseases.
In a human controlled study, CMV antibody levels showed a significantly higher association with neurofibrillary tangles which are commonly known as the primary markers for the disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control, CMV is in a person's body for life once is it contracted. Among every 100 adults in the United States, 50 to 80 percent are infected by the age of 40.
Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 proven to induce neurodegeneration
Several data indicate that neuronal infection with herpes simplex virus types 1 (HSV-1) and 2 (HSV-2) cause biochemical alterations reminiscent of Alzheimer's disease. HSV-1 is known for causing cold sores and fever blisters, while HSV-2 is known for genital herpes.
The Journal of Neurovirology recently reported data that demonstrated HSV-1 infection induces early upstream events in the neuronal cells that eventually leads to amyloid-ß deposition and tau hyperphosphorylation - which suggests it as a possible risk for Alzheimer's. Oxidative damage is also one of the earliest events of the disease, and evidence published in PLoS One suggested HSV-1 and oxidative damage interact to promote neurodegeneration events.
The Neurobiology of Aging journal also recently reported that HSV-2 infection leads to all major pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease. Scientists proved that HSV-2 strongly alters the tau phosphorylation state, amyloid-ß precursor protein, and autophagy process in human neuroblastoma cells - which lead to the appearance of Alzheimer's disease-like neurodegeneration markers.
The 'chickenpox virus' infects the central nervous system
The varicella-zoster virus (VZV) usually manifests itself as chickenpox (varicella) in children which then becomes latent in neurons of cranial and spinal ganglia in most people. The elderly, as well as those who have a compromised immune system, may reactivate the virus to produce shingles (zoster). According to the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, VZV can infect a wide variety of cell types in the central and peripheral nervous system which explains the virus' diversity of clinical disorders including its contribution to Alzheimer's.
Epstein Barr is a risk factor for cognitive decline and the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
The Epstein Barr virus (EBV) is one of the most common viruses and is better known for mononucleosis than CMV. Symptoms include that of the common cold: sore throat, swollen lymph glands, headache, fatigue, and fever.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 95 percent of adults are inflicted with the virus by the age of 40. And, while the virus does become dormant, the Neurobiology of Aging journal did detect a high percentage of Alzheimer's patients with EBV.
Bottom line: With 35.6 million dementia sufferers in 2015 and numbers growing for Alzheimer's disease, annihilation of the condition is necessary. Current research is moving in a positive direction as they find its true cause.
Clearly, data proves that viruses are a contributing factor for the condition with more evidence pointing to poor nutritional intake and deficiencies - which make matter worse. It's important to include a healthy lifestyle, especially an organic and nutrient-dense diet that feeds the brain for protection. And, of course, avoid as many environmental toxins as possible.

I saw his final show in Napa, California. I remember showing up at the venue and saw his tour bus parked. I peeked through the curtains at Glen Campbell.
Glen Campbell is one of the greatest guitar players in history.

I was lucky growing up in New Zealand in the sixties and seventies. Quite often while watching tv, there would be a musical interlude to fill in a couple of minutes between programs. One song that kept popping up was Galveston. I used to run out into the lounge from where ever I was to watch it when it came on. Now when I occasionally hear it it takes me right back there to a young lad and more innocent, carefree times. Memories.

The thing about glen campbell kit was like he took everything i liked about country and mixed it witha little bit of a pop and a mainstream sound. He added his own and country to even a broadway song the impossible dream hey little one last song side 2. I remember me and my brother and sister walked up to the counter at maule drugs in wichita with 11 glen campbell records. Im like that commentator below i hope to meet his daughter someday.

I loved Glen. He was a great musician. I use to watch his shows. I remember his Xmas shows would have his whole family on them. Alzheimer's is a terrible robbing of one's brain and eventually body. He didn't deserve that. Kim was so sweet to him. They seem to have loved each other very much. I like his children's music too. There will never be another Glen Campbell.
