One issue with todays paints is that they are a latex paint. They do not breathe. In a stone or brick masonry construction one has to understand that the stone must breathe to allow vapors to pass through. The use of latex or a plastic style paint when applied to masonry will peel off easily as moisture gathers behind the paint. Now you can use an older lime based whitewash with a mould inhibitor added to it to paint the walls and ceilings. As for color there are powdered pigments that can be added to the whitewash to Change the color. I would also recommend using a dehumidifier if you do not have air conditioning. If you decide on adding AC you need to find an energy efficient inverter equipped unit that has a temperature adjustment for the dehumidify mode. It will allow the AC unit to run at a slow economical speed while removing moisture from the air. An important note, it is a necessity to seal the exterior masonry with the proper paints so as to prevent moisture from entering the masonry walls and roof. Check the exterior coatings annually for any fine cracks or peeling paint and reseal as soon as possible.
Was Aidan suggesting the 2nd bathroom be installed in that smaller bedroom? The larger room didn’t seem big enough to add an en-suite? I also heard on another channel that exposing the brick/stone in the vaulting or on the walls can be quite pricey. Is that you guys’ experience as well?
Major renovation. Great for a couple. ❤❤❤ Vacation home only.

What about the roof? Seems like that may be part of the problem with the walls and ceiling. Is there access to the roof?
