Toyota tech here, we see brown cabin filters like that a lot when cars from NYC come in. It's actually smog, usually when they are just dirty with dust they will be grey and fuzzy, also smokers have cabin air filters that color from tar. Just goes to show you that your cabin filter also filters out a good portion of smog.
Oh also blower motors are mostly mounted below the cabin air filter box so they pull air down. Easy way to figure they air flow direction for a cabin air filter
Also that was a basic filter, that new one is a n95 style with the better filtration, the one in the middle now is the carbon filter.
As soon as you got that closeup of the quarter panel damage, I knew it was gonna be close to $4k. That quarter panel job is no joke! Sorry, Sam, that's an expensive low-speed collision!

I’m shocked he is not fixing it himself. Sucha missed oppiortunity for DIY content. It is just pull job and little bit paint correction on the bumper. Paintless Dent Repair guys can do it for sure. Removing the quarter will create big risk of rust aroound the glass and doors... No better Rust protection than the original coatings and sealants.

Make sure you dont throw away the plastic filter holder that you showed the Up arrow on. You are supposed to use it to hold the filter otherwise the filter will get pushed aside and not filter properly

Sam, only reverse Park when the Swift has a rear parking camera. 1st modification on my r33. Nice price for a Swift. Cabin filters are a easy cheap service item that helps. Please dont change the quarter panel unless youre one of those that doesnt like bondo work. That is an easy pull and fix, bumper may be salvageable as well but youll defined need a new bumper bracket.
If Japan is anything like US, dont go asking a “dealer” for a best price. Shop around for reputable body shops.

There is no way that’s 400,000yen worth of damage. My buddy had a scraped and dented almost the entire rear quarter panel and he took it to a similar type of shop, and he was charged 80,000yen. On my own R32, I had rust repair and welding done on the jacking points and the inside of trunk, and it cost me about 360,000yen.
You have to keep in mind it is a quote from the dealership, that monster sport shop is actually a suzuki dealership.

@@r.chaves_2848 Perhaps a Suzuki dealership price, but the place my buddy and I went to was a dealership/body repair shop just like this, minus the Suzuki name. They source OEM parts, repair to OEM quality, sell cars, etc. I get taking to a place you’ve been to before because familiarity, but that just smells scammy. You can get a pretty good full body respray in Japan for about 600,000yen. There is no way, a small dent in the corner of a rear quarter panel and a dented plastic bumper is worth 400,000yen. Just buy another Suzuki swift in an auction for that much.

That seems like alot , but if he replacing entire quarter panel then I understand , I personally would just pull it and shape it back , a good body guy can fix it almost back to oem

My wife loves her swift a lot. She's had 3 people crash into it now, none her fault. Each time she got a courtesy car she hated them, one reason was they were turbo. She hated the sudden power delivery. Thanks for reminding, I need to change the pollen filter 👌🏻
had the exact same thing happen to me in a parking lot with the concrete pillar. Was reversing out while it was in my blind spot and completely crushed my right-side front fender and door causing my mirror to come off as well... I swear those things are more trouble than anything, but oh well lesson learned. I will forever reverse park and always check my surroundings before driving off LOL.
Really wish Suzuki would've stuck around in the US. I've put 250k miles on my sx4 and never had any major repairs. I got it with 50k on it and i haven't babied it by any means. Once the j20b finally dies I'm thinking about swapping the m16 from the swift or maybe just rebuild and turbo it. Fun little cars for what they are.
The Suzuki in the US that were made in Japan were great but the Verona and the Forenza were made by Daewoo and were garbage. The SX4, VITARA AND XL7 Were very good vehicles

Sam, I think the flavour is aniseed, which is what Ouzo is made from. For the Bogan R32, I think it would be cool if you could get some number plates in the old Queensland style of 2 numbers then 3 letters, like 80-GAN. It would fill that gaping hole on the rear bumper, & be a bit of an in joke with us Strines. I'm certain that your friends back in Queensland could get them for you. I've found that if you trim about 5mm's off each side, the Australian width plates will fit a Japanese size recess. I also noticed the change in cam cover colour. Did those blue ones finally annoy you that much.

also, is insurance different in Japan? in Aust you pay small excess and car gets fixed..
I'm not surprised it's closer to $4k or so given the size of that quarter panel. Replacing a panel of that size can total out some cars when asking insurance and body shops.
