    You know that episode of Seinfeld called “The Barber”, where George is hired to work on the “Pensky File”? George has no idea what that file contains, or what he's supposed to do with it. I think that sums up this UA-cam channel! I don't have a dedicated format or specific focus, but I try to cover a general swath of gaming and entertainment topics.
    Thanks for watching!

    Well, at least they didn't cgi devil horns onto Shinzon.
    Nemesis …. ugh... Why does Shinzo view Picard as his Nemesis? Because he's Picard?!?! What the hell kind of reason is that to destroy earth?
    I'm just not buying or invested in this paper mache story foundation.
    I will just pretend this didn't happen and it was a bad Picard nightmare after too many wobbly pops.

    Clay blew my mind. His idea of downloading Data's consciousness into the computer core....YES!!! I've been saying it for years.

    I never thought this movie was that bad either. It certainly has its problems, but was the first movie in the 2000s when internet culture was growing, so those fans nit picked it apart.

    It's not a great movie but its better than generations, STV, and a couple of others. Somewhat underrated.

    Nemesis was the point where I started to hate the DS9 uniforms. On the dull grey of the Enterprise and the dark grey of the Scimitar, the grey starfleet uniforms just sucked out all the color in this movie. This movie feels lifeless, and could not be any further from the original vision of TOS. Like Redlettermedia said, this is the movie that makes you want to stop taking your heart medication. At least the TOS movie uniforms had a bold and dynamic crimson that existed in sharp contrast to the grey bridge of refit Enterprise.

    Speaking of Tom Hardy and Bane.....are you guys going to review the Dark Knight Trilogy? Just wondering. Although super Hero movies are not "Cinema" I suppose, but Christopher Nolan and Tim Burton were sure doing some interesting things with the Batman character for sure!

    I personally do find the B4 implanted with Data's memories to be way too much of a cop out, it does feel like the screenwriters just doing it to leave the film open to a sequel or to bring Data back if fans hated it. You guys had some interesting ideas on how to really improve this one, good podcast. Most thematic movie without any themes, you nailed it there.

      I'm working my way through the series right now, currently in Season 3. I like the show so far but it has been more of an effort to get myself to sit down and watch it than TNG, Voyager, or even TOS were. Now of course I've got to keep going to stay ahead of the podcast though!

    In ds9 at the end Worf became Federation ambassador to kronos but here in this movie it is not even mentioned.

    It's funny that he questions why didn't they demonstrate the power of the Scimitar by having it destroy another Sovereign class ship. I think this is exactly why DS9 showed a Galaxy class being destroyed by the Dominion in the episode The Jem'Hadar. To show that if this had been the Enterprise D, it would've been defeated.

    I would have preferred if there was some connecting background story for the 4 TNG movies, or if the 4 movies had developed the TV TNG universe more, instead of being clearly separate from it and isolated stories in themselves. I know they were under time and financial pressures when making the 4 movies, but I do think that letting a couple of years pass between 'All Good Things' and 'Generations' might have allowed a bit more thought as to how to launch the TNG films and what course they might continue on, instead of the 4 films seeming as if random story ideas were thought up for each.

    Nemesis felt like a rushed goodbye to someone who you forgot you said goodbye to is the best way I could describe it i like this movie as a guilty pleasure I think its the 2nd weakest of the tng movies but thats not saying much.

    One of the biggest mistakes the Batman series ever made was not casting Patrick Stewart as Mr. Freeze! I don't think it is as bad as the fandom says it is like Wes says, but honestly it's a hugely disappointing goodbye to the Star Trek: The Next Generation crew. It was an unsatisfying note for the TNG crew to go out on, but it was not totally terrible. I believe this is like Star Trek 5 in a lot of ways; the concept is fascinating or brilliant, but the execution is lackluster/poor. You guys are correct the story would have been made awesome if it had been Shinzon was a terrorist from a disenfranchised outcast part of Romulan society launching a war to takeover Romulus from the Reman homeworld. The ironic part of this final TNG film are a multiple fold; CBS would eventually resurrect Picard with an elderly Patrick Stewart to profit off of TNG nostalgia and legacy, so Picard will actually be the final goodbye from the 1990s era Treks, and also that Patrick Stewart and Tom Hardy would go on after this to be huge stars. If Nemesis had been made now they would have made Tom hardy a digitally de-aged deep fake version of Patrick Stewart!

    On paper this movie should have been great. A director who wasn’t a trek fan similar too Wrath of Khan. A darker film much like Wrath of Khan and the death of a main character like Wrath of Khan. And that’s its biggest problem it trying way to hard to be Wrath of Khan

  • @dittbub
    @dittbub 3 роки тому

    It also rips off wrath of khan cause this movie gives Picard a son he never knew of

    I think it would have been more fitting had Picard sacrificed himself to save the ship. I would love to see the deleted scenes. Where or how did you watch those included in the movie? Not to be totally negative, but I don't understand how if you just watched this the night before you recorded this, how you don't remember how Reman was pronounced.
    Also, the constant negativity regarding the search for Spock is really annoying. Some of your criticisms are accurate but overall I feel that this movie demonstrates Kirk's never say die attitude and ability to always find a solution

    • @thepenskyfile

    If you want a good villain performance from Patrick Stewart then check out Green Room. One of my favourite films of last year, a thriller/horror with Anton Yelchin and Stewart plays a neo-Nazi.

    Farewell to thee TNG movies...

  • @barbaramcgee8933

    This is one of my least favorite Star Trek movies. It's been a long time since I've watched it so I don't want to be too critical but my memories of it aren't good and I clearly remember how disappointed I was in the theater after seeing it the first time. Data's death felt really hollow to me, it seemed like such a blatant attempt to recreate Spock's death in TWOK . Even down to making sure that we all know he could be back as B-4. I also didn't like Tom Hardy as Shinzon, in fact it's colored my perception of him ever since. He was just so NOT Picard.
    All Good Things was such a great finale. It set up many things that they could have used in the movies. In that future Data was still alive but Troi wasn't. Why not kill Troi in this movie as the high stakes death? I'm sure it would've been a less action-y death but it still could have been a great sacrificial one. I commented before about the time between series and movies and how I think TOS had the advantage there, but TNG could have made the close proximity to their show benefit them. Insurrection could have involved the Dominion War, maybe something with Ro and the Maquis, and been a much better movie. Except for First Contact they really dropped the ball on utilizing the connection the audience had with the show. IMO.

    • @thepenskyfile
      @thepenskyfile  7 років тому +1

      Good point about Troi death tying into All Good Things. That would have been a neat nod to the audience and brought up questions about how much you can change fate. And Ro and the Maquis in a movie called "Insurrection" makes too much sense.

    While i feel this is the weakest of the TNG movie, i still think Star Trek 1 and Star Trek 5 are worse. Star Trek 1 was a bore through out and Star Trek 5 had a terrible premise and looked terrible because ILM was not available to do the special effects. Nemesis had a good premise, featured the second most popular alien race as the antagonists and provided closure to some of the characters (Riker, Troi, Crusher, Data)

    • @thepenskyfile
      @thepenskyfile  6 років тому

      I dunno, I feel like TMP had a different tack and, even though it failed, the fact that it's so different makes it appealing to me. V is definitely worse.

    Summed up all my own problems with the film. Disclosure: I not really emotionally invested in Next Gen. I find most of it garbage or at best mildly entertaining. The films differ so much in tone from the series that it becomes a Star Wars knockoff more than traditional Star Trek. That in itself hinders me or allows me to analyze them objectively for what they are. There was no closure for this series in this film. Everything 'changes' but not in reality. Data really isn't 'dead' so why kill off his character? Picard will continue on with a new crew. There is no real end to the characters or their stories and leaves it all sort of in limbo. I think it effectively killed any momentum moving forward for Trek. Fans won't accept Trek without 'Enterprise' in it for the most part. DS9 was never really a ratings hit, but a closet fan favorite. Voyager failed in the grand scope (despite me liking it much better than TNG overall). This was really just a clumsy 'goodbye' without actually saying Goodbye. No wonder most fans disregard it.

    2-12-2018. Rewatched for Pensky Podcast. Horrendous. Utterly terrible...
    1. Senate kill scene. No security. Just walk out leaving your make up compact of death. Lol.
    2. Wedding speech. Ugh. Seemed like Patrick Stewart was just goofing off as himself. Not in character at all. Riker Troi no chatter. Spiner trying to show off he can sing? Cramming that scene in... pointless.
    3. Argo off road ATV. just lame. Nothing special at all. Just land shuttle where you need to be. Go off roading when you know plant is empty.
    4. Headless Data garbage. Done before!!! Don’t you remember? Sucked then. Sucks “now”. More Spiner promo? Ugh. WTF happened to Lore’s body = better concept. If salvaged from 1701-D crash in “Generations” = better concept! (and I just made that up)
    5. Clone Picard concept = vomit.
    6. Remans look silly. Ludicrous. Ridiculous. Killer crazy clown look.
    7. Shinzon looks weak. Feeble. Showing his menstrual cramping immediately takes away any intimidation factor for him.
    8. Why didn’t Shinzon take Picard immediately at first meeting? Kill Away Team. Or at dinner? He plans to KILL EARTH. WTF difference does the Enterprise crew make?
    9. B-4 stupid gaze.
    10. Why assemble super strong intelligent erratic android when Lore messed you guys up several times?
    11. Does Romulus have any ships in area? Planetary defenses? Anything to either help or counter Shinzon? Just the late 2 nothing burger WarBirds?
    12. What if Enterprise just flew around
    13. Romulus so Scimitar couldn’t use radiation killer weapon?
    14. Enterprise weapons locker scene repeat of First Contact. We’ve seen this before. Your infantry sucks. Rifles clicking like M-16s in a Michael Bay movie.
    15. Hallway shoot out. Dreadful. Worf endzone dive. Riker Die Hard bit.
    16. Slow mo Reman death fall. Young Shinzon flashbacks. Ugh.
    17. Lackluster space battle. Ennnh.
    18. Picard Shinzon Battle Royal.
    19. No USS Titan.?!?! Really???
