How To Use Lexus IS250 Paddle Shifters

- Today we are going to look at something that is featured in some sports cars. They are known as paddle shifters. They allow you to turn your car into manual mode if you have an automatic. This means you could change the gears yourself. A cool little feature for a luxury sports car. Or any car for that matter.

Paddle shifters on an automatic car is like wearing a condom on a hot woman that prefers it bare!

I think it’s good to know that in "S" mode while using peddle shifters, the IS will still automatically shift down when you hit the brakes while coming to a stop. This makes it safer in a sense because the car will not stall at a higher gear. But the opposite is not true in that the car will not automatically shift to a higher gear even if you redline it. Thus, you need to be mindful of the rpm when stepping hard on the accelerator.
I rarely use the paddle shifters but they’re certainly cool to have. Nice little feature in these cars and certainly adds to the sporty element to it.
Here's a question, will it stop you from "money shifting" aka downshifting when the RPM is already too high causing engine or transmission damage?
I love my Lexus IS250, and I appreciate you showing me how to do this. I have the instruction manual, but nothing beats seeing it in person. Today I'm going to try it out. Thank you for your instruction.

Nice to be in sports mode, the powers is there anytime you need it.
It makes the drive more engaging, and in a car like mine it’s fun. Makes the car a true driver enthusiast car.

1:39 manual c7 corvette has paddle shifters but it’s for a different reason
I rarely use these but every once in a while I’ll put her in sport and just utilize it.

Lexus … there is no substitute
Pedantic but I think S isn't for "Sport" but for "Sequential" (still give you a sporty feeling 😄).
I like the feeling driving in that mode. But I don’t do it daily. This Lexus is driven mostly in standard normal mode. Now if this was the performance package ISF model then I might use the paddle shifters more.

Paddle shifters are cool for cars like yours. Sadly I drive a crappy 2008 Scion TC that’s super slow.

The is250 is not much faster tbh. What you do get is a smooth relaxing drive, even on twisty bumpy roads. It’s fun to drive in west Marin roads.

Do you use these for highway driving? That is, do you use less gas driving in high shited gear?
I rarely use these actually, I just drive it in normal mode. It is kind of fun to engage if you just wanna have fun with it, but for every day driving, I don’t use it.

Can I put it into S mode and not use the paddle shifters. Can I just drive on S?
You know I never actually tried that as I always have changed gears using the paddle shifters in sports mode. I think if you put in sport mode in this car it won’t change the gears automatically like normal driving mode, so you would need to use the paddle shifters.
