If you close your eyes you're in the May Fair Hotel in 1933. A very glamorous time.

Yes, Ambrose is the very essence of the refinement and class of the British bands of interwar era. Nothing compares that style!

With the exception of a bit of a "time-warp" I felt that I was home in London on a rainy Sunday. Thanks for the posting and the memories.

Great song, great b&w images. I especially like the "rain
pictures." Among other quirks, I'm a RAINIAC, fond of the rhythms of rain on the rooftop.

Hi David, it's hard to believe that a few days ago we had our drinks out in a garden of a Warsaw cafe, on that warm lovely night in May. Today it's more like in November: I put on a warm sweater and covered my knees with a blanket. The day is just like in this song and on these photographs of a rainy London. And soon "the rockin' chair will get me..."

I love these old city scape Pics. Especially in the rain. Just one mistake, Austin cars didn't produce the one at--1.42 min, till 4 yrs later.

Thanks Lana for your sunshine offer. Yes, this is something one really needs in Poland nowadays. The whole country is hidden under the heavy grey clouds and "it keeps raining all the time"

Very good rendering of this "immortal" piece, as one might expect from Ambrose and his Orchestra. Interesting collection of photos of "stormy weather" in England, in particular in London, including (2.42) a view of the iconic Bovril advertisement... -:) Shared on Google+

Genia, this morning Rudy had the same idea and you want it or not, we already have two apartments booked in good old Savoy at Charing X . They have Gibbons' Orpheans play every night and I share Gerties opinion, it's the best dance band in the whole Milky Way.

Yes, that Reisman's version is also very good. But for me, Ambrose is absolutely unbeatable. I have also Harry Roy's version which is more foxtrott-rhythmical - but this one is best of all I heared.

@goinghomesomeday1 - You're obviously way ahead of me in your knowledge of these long-ago singers, Gerald.
Still, suffice to say, they were all wonderful singers with wonderful bands and they certainly knew how to make music. How grateful we are to be able to listen to them on YT and other means. Hope the spring/summer comes quickly for you too - take care meantime.

Seems to me that Ambrose (and perhaps due to his arrangers) comes up trumps with so many recordings. The songs/tunes mostly written the other side of the Atlantic but harder to better this side.
    Great video as well. Thanks.

Gzregorz, thank you for this, it's superb, but could you please, PLEASE do us all a huge favour, and upload the other side of this record (Piccaninny)- Its never been re-released, and the only online upload sounds horribly worn, but it's a fabulous record. Would you?
