Just for the curious; I know this is a confusing concept, but some argue whether missiles can hit non-jet aircraft. Some say that heatseekers can, but radar can’t. That is not true. The way a radar locking missile works is by being able to see something using radar waves, and then locking onto it. So, in the end, all kinds of missiles will work
One interesting thing about radar vs wwII fighters, because the fighters are made of mainly aluminum they reflect radar really well.
In this case those planes did not have radars. Propeller aircrafts' engines form so little heat that they are not impossible, but hard to lock IR missiles on them, but the range would in case of the newest AIM-9X be reduced from ~30km to ~8km-5km
@@TextualTennis28 sorry, let me rephrase the last part, I meant using radiowaves as in the radiowave bounces off of the object and comes back to the transmitting object, giving a lock
now I could totally be wrong, as I am no expert, but from what I believe this is true
Radar guided missiles could work but not at BVR. Infrared missiles could also have a chance depending on the enemy aircraft's relative position towards the F-16. Thermal sensors work by detecting "black body radiation", which is reflected VERY well by every kind of metal.
bro literally sent those WW2 planes home
It might come as a surprise, but dogfighting a Bf-109 in a Viper would be harder than it seems. The WWII fighters can easily turn inside the jet, and it would be very difficult to avoid overshooting. The only good tactic for gunning WWII aircraft in a fast jet is to use the massive advantage the jet has in the vertical, but it would still be very dangerous.
I’m guessing the best way for it to attack would be to hit first, climb until the 109 stalls then give it another burst
It would be really easy. If he misses the first pass, he just runs away and comes back for another. It would be dumb to turn fight a prop in a jet, much less something supersonic like an F-16.
My brother in Christ the f16 can outrun the 109, not to mention the missiles on the f16 will shoot down the 109 before it can even get in range

Literally what?
Easy
The Germans would shit their pants when they realize the F-16 is on the allied side
The Germans would have barely noticed it. You understand that the warships of the allied fleet were shelling their coastal fortifications nonstop. With this amount of firepower already there a few more explosions would have been barely noticeable.
@@wolfmanjackxl1691 have you heard an after burning engine before?
@@Led00t-du9rj Yeah, it's loud. But not as loud as continuous shelling by battleships, cruisers and destroyers. Plus all the ordnance fired by the Germans.

That would also be smoked. It is slower than the f-16.
it has even more of an infared signature, so it would be absolutly wrecked, it would be harder for the F-16 pilot to take down a Bf-109 then a 262. tho the 262 is one of my favorite planes.

war thunder dont got aim120s yet
and they use aim9's
Can also use aim 7 but can't faf
There were only two german aircraft present over Normandie on D-day and german tanks were held back in reserve.
The biggest use for an F-16 would probably have been precision strikes against coastal artillery positions, though it's uncertain if even modern bunker busting bombs would have been enough to take out the most heavily entrenched ones.
Be cool to see how the german would have done if they had eurofighter Typhoons during D day.
This would be the Germans worst nightmare

I would honestly love a game like this to be honest. Where you are sent back in time with future machines. Imagine an AC-130 on Normandy.
Imagine being a german soldier chilling with your german buddies in your bunker, then you suddenly hear a menacing, bone-chilling, blood-colding howl coming from the skies just as before you get blown up by an ATGM missile
It is a Final Count Down
Isn't it crazy that F16 had its first flight only 30 years after WW2?
At that point you don’t even need to send the boats
True, it would be terrifying witnessing a jet in 1940s but keep in mind that it's missiles won't work on prop airplanes. The missiles work by following the most thermal target, be it a very high Celsius fire. In that case, it follows the turbine of the jet plane.

The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat, twin-turbofan, straight-wing, subsonic attack aircraft developed by Fairchild Republic for the United States Air Force (USAF). In service since 1977, it is named after the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, but is commonly referred to as the "Warthog" or simply "Hog".[3] The A-10 was designed to provide close air support (CAS) to ground troops by attacking enemy armored vehicles, tanks, and other ground forces; it is the only production-built aircraft designed solely for CAS to have served with the U.S. Air Force.[4] Its secondary mission is to direct other aircraft in attacks on ground targets, a role called forward air controller-airborne; aircraft used primarily in this role are designated OA-10.

The A-10 was intended to improve on the performance and firepower of the Douglas A-1 Skyraider. The Thunderbolt II's airframe was designed around the high-power 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger rotary autocannon. The airframe was designed for durability, with measures such as 1,200 pounds (540 kg) of titanium armor to protect the cockpit and aircraft systems, enabling it to absorb damage and continue flying. Its ability to take off and land from relatively short and/or unpaved runways permits operation from airstrips close to the front lines, and its simple design enables maintenance with minimal facilities.
It served in the Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm), the American-led intervention against Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, where the aircraft distinguished itself. The A-10 also participated in other conflicts such as the Balkans, Afghanistan, the Iraq War, and against the Islamic State in the Middle East.
The A-10A single-seat variant was the only version produced, though one pre-production airframe was modified into the YA-10B twin-seat prototype to test an all-weather night-capable version. In 2005, a program was started to upgrade the remaining A-10A aircraft to the A-10C configuration, with modern avionics for use with precision weaponry. The U.S. Air Force had stated the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II would replace the A-10 as it entered service, but this remains highly contentious within the USAF and in political circles.[5] The USAF gained congressional permission to start retiring A-10s in 2023, but further retirements were paused until the USAF can demonstrate that the A-10's close-air-support capabilities can be replaced.

Despite the fire rate, it only has enough ammunition to fire for about 30 seconds.
Tbh ppl tell that it would run out of ammo, but it could make a hole in a part of defences, where americans would get thru and flank other enemies
