What the majority of the public does not know or understand is when liquidation sales start, pricing restarts back at full MSRP plus markup by the liquidation operator. Pricing by the original retailer is cancelled. The liquidation company only has a certain length of contract and also it depends on rules handed down in the liquidation contract on discounts and when discounts get higher, along with others rules that may be set by the suppliers/vendors.
@@TheBlackHeartsClubwe only have 5-10% off stuff too. I was disappointed because I bought a holiday two glass cups/hot cocoa gift set & a small bag of Christmas cookies after Christmas was over & there was no discount at all. And when I asked the girl at the register about it she said it’s because it’s food. It’s a little disappointing when they advertise on the outside windows that there’s these big percent off sales & then there’s not really any big discounts
@@phallinpathat's the liquidation rules set up in the contract. Some items may be sold for lower as the vendors do not want them returned, as it takes up valuable space in the warehouses. I worked for Sears and after the Christmas shopping season is done, fragrance sets not sold go back to the vendors, which is then bought in large pallets by liquidators who then bring them info store or company closings. Before going to stores like Big Lots which would purchase from other liquidation companies and resell.
I think when they went from Ollies model to focusing on furniture they started to go downhill. I used to love the randomness of old model.. and stopped shopping there then and took my biz to OLLIES.
I’m with you, don’t understand how it could be that wiped out with such low sale percentages. Ours is like that too. Unfortunately it will probably close down. We don’t have any parent stores anywhere close. Good luck with your store 🤞
Our store was pretty wiped before Christmas and before the announcement. The day after Christmas, the signs were up and the people were crawling around grabbing everything. The only things we got were a few Christmas items because they were 50% off. And you are right that 5-10% is laughable, but people were still grabbing things and wiping out the shelves. I haven't gone back to see what the place looked like now though. I'm out west, so not too sure if they will save our store.
Same here in Indiana. Walked in 2 days ago and it was hilarious. 5-10% is rediculous but people were grabbing everything they could. I ended up walking out without one purchase.
I don’t go to Big Lots often as we have an Ocean State Job Lot locally (my mom works there) and an Ollie’s opened up around 30 minutes away, a couple of years ago. That said, 5-10% off for a store that is supposedly closing sounds like a joke. Many start higher and eventually go up to between 60 and 90% off at the end.
It's a liquidation company that comes in that sets the prices. The Going out of business sale didn't stat till Friday Dec 20, 2024 and that was for the stores that were not on the list of Closures.
I work for the company. It’s true people are taking cart load after cart load of 5% and 10% off. Nothing is being shipped out from the stores we’re still getting trucks from our warehouses. Two sometimes 3 a week and you wouldn’t even know it.
My Big Lots closed before Thanksgiving-not surprising, as that store had been a ghost town for quite some time. I did go to the BL by where my parents live on Christmas Eve, and that store still had a pretty decent amount of inventory. Ironically, my parents’ Big Lots had better selection in the beginning of liquidation than mine did two years before it closed.
They will discount it to get the most money, then they will box it up and ship it to another store. I worked for Rose's during the 90's, they started to buy cheaper merchandise and that's one of the reasons they closed stores also, the great monopoly of Walmart came to town and slowly all the mom and pop stores began to close, same with Kmart, they just couldn't compete.
They might send the merchandise to another store that might be being saved so they can get that store sold out and emptied out or the new owner sells the same merchandise so they pulled it off to see at the new price for the new store
Im a Store Manager at a Big Lots in Indiana and I agree, where were these people before the closing was announced? Buying this stuff up at such a very low discount is bizarre. Our shelves are just like this store...bare.
Big lot prices have become ridiculous. They opened a new store and prices soared through the roof. I stopped shopping in Big lot store about three years ago.
The Big Lots in my area never had anything I wanted. Many times I left whete the only thing I bought was a bottle of soda. I just stopped going in, it was a waste of time and effort.
Just read one article that said the bankruptcy court has approved the sale. It also mentioned Variety Wholesalers wants to maintain the Big Lots brand, which makes me think the merchandise may stay the same 🤔
Very confusing first they was closing then they was staying open with a sign saying they was staying open then the sign was gone and they was closing so who knows?
I hit up my local Big Lots yesterday and it looked a little better than yours. I found 2 packages of my favorite puppy pads and at ONLY 10% off, they were no bargain. But there was only 2 left and I wanted them, so I paid what they were asking. Most on the food is not discounted at all. The signs say "already a great buy" or something like that. Kinda a joke when the signs outside say "nothing held back" but the food has no discounts. Whatever. I won''t be going back in but I do hope my store is saved. (West coast of FL)
I’m brand new to the channel and had to watch because I am considering a Big Lots run this evening to scout it out. The one by me became 75% overpriced low quality furniture and not even the best variety of pieces. I was there in September looking for a storage ottoman at a good price but they didn’t even have 1 storage ottoman in the entire store. The plaza this is in is a wreck to begin with so one more vacancy might push it over the edge. To me Big Lots is a retail also-ran. My side of town has a horrible history in terms of retail. We don’t need anymore storage unit places to store all the $hit you drove across town to buy!!
0:50 I would assume the opposite, but I know nothing about Rose’s, so I could be wrong. If they are similar enough to Big Lots, I would have thought they’d close the BLs close to their existing stores and eventually convert those stores to Big Lots (or close their current stores and keep the BL). If the deal succeeds, hopefully some of the Big Lots stores here in Texas can be saved. I think many of our stores are performing pretty well, and we didn’t get hit as hard in the previous closings as some other states.
6:31 no the product isn't being sent out to Ollie's or other stores... The customers are just buying it that fast... That is the only thing I can confirm on this video
I read somewhere where Big Lots's creditors and leaseholders weren't OK with the current plan for Variety Wholesalers so who knows if the bankruptcy judge will approve it. Agreed. All the licensed stuff disappeared in my store too. I wonder if they boxed it up to sell to someone like Ollies or Ross rather than discount it heavily.
13:40 Seeing the personal care section looking like that reminds me of how Big Lots resembled a disorganized warehouse back in the '80s. Funny how some memories stay with you, because I remember a stick of deodorant I bought there around '88, and when I got home, saw it had expired in '83. I'm sure back then I was probably doused in enough ex'clama'tion to hide any offending odor. 😳😆
Yes, Big Lots used to be a true closeout store like Ollies where they would buy overstock from other retailers. Lots of random stuff until they switched to having their own private brands
The closest Big Lots to me most merchandise was only 10% off, not worth it. I remember when their stores were marketed as Big Lots/Odd Lots. When you shopped you never knew what you would find. It was more like a treasure hunt, and you found real bargains. When they tried to upscale their stores and prices I lost interest. I prefer Ollie’s now.
yep totally agree no way most of the wiped out merch is gone w/that low percentage 🤔 . . folks are looking for 70% or more . . the parking lot was super packed for 10% 20% off 🤔 the store didn't look that busy . . tfs 🖤🦇🖤
Yeah I think people were just mainly sight seeing and not buying it was abit busy I just make it a point to try not to film people on camera I guess it’s a respect thing lol but however the checkout and peoples carts did not look full at all
Ok just fully finished the video... As far as the product selling as fast as it is that makes total sense... Biglots is known for getting a lot of different stuff in, that does indeed change from week to week.... And a lot of the time once something is gone that isnt furniture then iits usually just gone and might not come back into stock... So regardless of the percentage off its already a good deal, that they might not get another chance to buy at a decent price... As far as your outlook as to the employees, im embarrassed at the lack of recovery in that store.... No sense of pride and certainly no work ethic... So i do hope that, that biglots is not one to stay open.... Unfortunately i feel that is as far into detail as im allowed to get...
That store was a wreck and the employees some at least were rude to a point it’s like ok I’m sorry your job is possibly leaving however I am not the ceo I didn’t make that decision
At first I was upset to see them go, they were going to close the one closest to us , once it reached 40 % off they said ok now it’s not going out. A month later …. oh now it’s going out. Who do I feel bad for the workers 👎🖕🏼 bigots!
That’s who I think it’s the worse for the employees at the locations that will close hopefully they can collect some unemployment in the states they live in until something else comes along
@TheBlackHeartsClub Don't even get me started on the prescription beneficiate card people think are credit cards I have to deal with one lady asked me what her balance is? I told her it's impossible for me to know that and that's something she would have to call about she's like I'm not doing that, there must have been a Matlock Marathon on?
That’s how the one is where I live. Mostly 5-10 percent off but people were acting like it was 70 percent 🤣
The percentage isn’t even gas money for my drive lol
What the majority of the public does not know or understand is when liquidation sales start, pricing restarts back at full MSRP plus markup by the liquidation operator. I’m hoping ours will stay open 😢 We love Big lots!!
Hopefully it will !
We only have 5-10% off stuff. Seems crazy for a going out of business sale. It should be 50-75% off.
That price is worse than a weekend sale at this point
@@TheBlackHeartsClubwe only have 5-10% off stuff too. Yup back in the day big lots didn’t sell furniture
Big Lots going out of business forever !!! I'll miss it.
I just shopped there last night.
Had great deals.
Well maybe you’ll have one of the 400 close by that doesn’t close
I’m with you, don’t understand how it could be that wiped out with such low sale percentages. Ours is like that too. Unfortunately it will probably close down. We don’t have any parent stores anywhere close. Good luck with your store 🤞
Thanks here’s hoping I do have Roses and Maxway around

Why buy stuff that’s not even basically on sale the logic makes zero sense

Yup and at that percentage ollies is still cheaper than them
It's a liquidation company that comes in that sets the prices. The Going out of business sale didn't stat till Friday Dec 20, 2024 and that was for the stores that were not on the list of Closures.
I think today it hit up to 30 percent
Variety wholesale is working with Gordon Brothers Liquidators to aquire 200 to 400 Big Lots locations
It's probably mostly resellers because I won't even give it a second look at only 10%. I don't even look until it's 50% or better
That’s what I’m thinking to
When it hits over 30 they won't have what ur lookin for
I work for the company. It’s true people are taking cart load after cart load of 5% and 10% off. Nothing is being shipped out from the stores we’re still getting trucks from our warehouses. Two sometimes 3 a week and you wouldn’t even know it.
Wow thanks for sharing
When my store was closing the thefts were ridiculous! Walking out the door with full shopping carts.
Wow
You are so right. I don’t want to go at 5 and 10%.
It’s not even a Sale lol
I was told ours was to be saved. Then last weekend, there were signs saying going out of business. Just terrible. Central West Illinois
It seems like this story is all over the place everyday
My Big Lots closed before Thanksgiving-not surprising, as that store had been a ghost town for quite some time. I did go to the BL by where my parents live on Christmas Eve, and that store still had a pretty decent amount of inventory.
Ironically, my parents’ Big Lots had better selection in the beginning of liquidation than mine did two years before it closed.
The one a town over from me has more than this location this location is 2 weeks in and is getting wiped out
Biglots in middletown, ohio was full on last week but empty today couldn't believe it
By next week I guess it’ll be empty walks at all our locations !
Yup I remember when Roses was once a decent store then all the merch started becoming pretty much junk
They might send the merchandise to another store that might be being saved so they can get that store sold out and emptied out or the new owner sells the same merchandise so they pulled it off to see at the new price for the new store
Dollar tree may also buy the balloons I was thinking
Im a Store Manager at a Big Lots in Indiana and I agree, where were these people before the closing was announced? Buying this stuff up at such a very low discount is bizarre. Our shelves are just like this store...bare.
Sorry for the closing hopefully you’ll get news that your store will remain open
This discount is insane.
Yup lol
Big lot prices have become ridiculous. They opened a new store and prices soared through the roof. I stopped shopping in Big lot store about three years ago.
Yeah the prices definitely got out of control
The Big Lots in my area never had anything I wanted. Many times I left whete the only thing I bought was a bottle of soda. I just stopped going in, it was a waste of time and effort.
Yeah if it was just a soda run lol I’d bed done also lol
@TheBlackHeartsClub it didn't start out a soda run, but it usually ended up one.
I believe that they are putting the inventory in the back
It’s a confusing mess
3:56 former Winn Dixie?
It was a former Farm Fresh in the 80s my mom worked there
The Rocky Mount location has barely moved any product out the door.
Wow !
12:04 could Kmart make a return?
Hey you never know, right ? Lol
Just read one article that said the bankruptcy court has approved the sale. It also mentioned Variety Wholesalers wants to maintain the Big Lots brand, which makes me think the merchandise may stay the same 🤔
It will be interesting to see what happens!
They could be using their coupons
Coupons are dead, no military either
I work at a big lots and it's just been people buying it's been nuts all the people it's crazy
Well that answers that question thanks for sharing
Our Big Lots in Hesperia Ca was done before new years
Seems to be the way most out west ended up
All we have left is 2 Dollar Tree's and one Family Dollar.
Theft
But guess what came back. Pic N Save
Very confusing first they was closing then they was staying open with a sign saying they was staying open then the sign was gone and they was closing so who knows?
Exactly it’s a mess
My big lots near me fully stocked an their doing nothing bassiclly
Wow
More and more are closing. Where do we go for discounts? Sucks
Ollie’s at this point it seems
Amazon is killing retail.

Just glad you got those pads before they were gone i think they are on amazon also if need be
All of Ohio stores are closing permanently. Ours is already having Going out of business sale.
Hoping mine gets a second lease on life but who knows at this point honestly

@ Ollie’s is just up the road and I go there much more often because the pantry selection is WAY better than Big Lots.

I’m not sure how any of it will turn out in the long run it did appear that the deal went through so now it’s a wait and see
🖤
Thanks for watching as always 🖤
6:31 no the product isn't being sent out to Ollie's or other stores... The customers are just buying it that fast... That is the only thing I can confirm on this video
And no food is discounted either... So those Halloween food sets you seen are not part of the closing sale
Just old food about to expire lol
I work at big lots and the signs say UP to 25% off not 25% off. People dont read right
People donKt read any store signs correctly. They just read what they want to see.
Yup that’s why I always try to show the signs showing what each dept is lol
I read somewhere where Big Lots's creditors and leaseholders weren't OK with the current plan for Variety Wholesalers so who knows if the bankruptcy judge will approve it. Agreed. It has to be going elsewhere right? No one can be buying this much at this percentage off , this story just keep taking turns lol
So you mean to say that all stores are closing, but some are reopening?
Yes approximately 200-400 can remain open according to the latest updates

Ollie’s is still like the last retail treasure hunt I agree
I am ready to start a protest to keep Big Lots open... who's with me😮😢😂!
Some will stay open however at least 400 locations
@TheBlackHeartsClub I hope the one near me because I like the employees and manager and a few have been there for many years...
Yes ! The discounts don't really seem worth it! There's one about 40 minutes away and I've been debating if I should go!
If it’s like this and this percentage only if you wanna “possibly” say goodbye lol
yep totally agree no way most of the wiped out merch is gone w/that low percentage 🤔 . . folks are looking for 70% or more . . the parking lot was super packed for 10% 20% off 🤔 the store didn't look that busy . . tfs 🖤🦇🖤

Why do you hate the letter G?
I don’t it chose not to work within my system lol
It’s stupid that all of the food is full price
And that stuffs not even selling it looks like junk is disappearing quicker than necessities
Ok just fully finished the video... As far as the product selling as fast as it is that makes total sense... THE YOUNGER CLIENTEL DO NOT CARE ABOUT SALES IF THEY WANT IT. THE TEENS AND 20s age group.
I just think this stuff should be up to 50 off by now
At first I was upset to see them go, they were going to close the one closest to us , once it reached 40 % off they said ok now it’s not going out. A month later …. oh now it’s going out. Who do I feel bad for the workers 👎🖕🏼 bigots!

Yes they are !

Should of closed waste of space rude customer service when you go to one of the store's. And over priced for resale merchandise. Bye bye Big Lots
