@@Bob-Whiting I recommend going back to Gly's first Episode and watch from the beginning, each episode is Great, and he explains how he started using the name of Gly in many past episodes.
I wonder where the bats lived before these mines were digged in ? Here in germany they do something similar with every hole and structure they find. In summer we have sometimes a bat flying through our garden. Its great to see you underground again and we all love Old Bob !
Happy Thanksgiving Gly. Whenever I come across bat bars, I always check them. On a few occasions, I have found where one of the bars was never welded in place and was just sitting on its brackets. It could be moved to allow access to the mine. Because they are rather heavy, they usually require two people to move the bar and put it back in place. In Death Valley, there is a rather large ore haulage at one of the talc mines that is covered with bat bars. There is also a door. About a week after I was there several years ago, another mine exploration group went there and checked to see if there was a lock on the door. I didn't think of that when I was there. There wasn't. They released the latch, pushed the door open and explored the mine. I learned my lesson! Of course if there are no trespassing signs or a valid claim, I will stay out. No point in tempting fate. It does bug me though all of this stuff on public land being blocked off.
Think the band America. "I've been through the desert to a mine with no name. It felt good to be out of the rain. In a mine, you can remember your name, unless the bat bars gives you some pain...."
I know there are several mine exploring channels so I have limited myself to 3, first off this one you have Guy, then the TVR explored, 3rd is Tom and Julie. I'm sure you are aware of those and many more.

Aloha Gly I look forward to your new vids on Saturday. I live in Hawaii and have hiked some of the 100+ year old sugar plantation water tunnels and it’s very addicting. I gotta say Gly, the *QUALITY* of your videos is truly outstanding! I for one enjoy the 'Behind the scenes: How It's done/made' stuff, because 'I' have so little experience in trying to create something like what you do for a hobby! Your enthusiasm has always shone through, but seeing the technology/equipment needed to do what you do? wow!
I am older than you so the studs in the pipes are set with sulfer. Old timers understood sulfer can be poured hot into the pipes. When it cools it expands alot. If in the concrete it would crack it, so the pipes. Hand rails in the 40s 50s were set with suffer. Sulfer is one of the few elements that expands while cooling. WW2 .machinery were bolted to the floor using sulfer. Guy hit one of those bolts with a tractor and couldn't budget. I heated it with a torch and removed it with pliers. 😊
Did we get into any mines this episode? No, and that's okay because this episode was extremely informative. Hopefully you do more episodes like this I mean yeah going through looking into minds and all that is great but sometimes it's nice to have an episode where it's all about learning.

I love the signage. "We will prosecute you!!!!!!!" Well, you're offering a reward for info so that means unless someone narcs, you'll never know who it was. Have fun with that guys...
my retired pilot grandpa fell in love with google earth too, because he could fly around wherever he wanted to. If he were still alive I'd buy him the new MSFS and an xbox controller.
Nice one! Even if you didn't get far underground it was still really interesting. Personally I liked the intro with Google Earth and the topo map a lot. I thought it contextualized the site in the landscape very well, and complemented the drone footage which I also like a lot. You put an awful lot of work into these videos. Thank you! All the best from UK
The problem with California mines is that almost all of them are “bat bars”. I grew up in Victorville in the 60’ and 70’s, moved out in ‘92. My dad hauled out of many mines back then, so we would go out to them, there are two east of VV that we got into lots of times. Then, one day, you best enjoy the trip, cuz you ain’t getting in them anymore! That was in the early 90’s.
There are many mines in San Diego & Imperial Counties but I believe they are all very small. I would like to know if this is untrue as I have only been to a few of them and I never heard of any being bigger than those. And this was long ago but none of them were barred. I have heard there is a deep shaft near The Salton Sea.
You let us into seeing alittle more of how you research areas for mines and then seek them out in the area that you've formated. There is alot more to just exploring a mine, as I can see from your past few explanations of "preparation". Well, you're in a new area for this Winter period so I suppose each time you move from place to place, state to state its takes some acclaimation on your part as to what the "lay of the land" is around you. Plus being put behind with your Jeep being in the shop for some wks., suppose its taking some time "getting back into a rhythm." Plus you & we are wearing off all that Thanksgiving eating. (we're all, not up to speed.) Sure is some rugged scenery where you are. I'm looking forward to your upcoming episodes.
Hey there Gly! I really love watching your videos. You go into some crazy places that I wouldn't try! Maybe I would've a few years ago, but as I get older, I find gravity is not my friend! Lol! AND... I personally appreciate the fact that you buzz the area with a drone and get the lay of the land. I do the same when looking for new ground to prospect. It only makes sense! "Work smarter not harder!" Right?? Oh, and finally, that is a Road Runner Prospectors Club claim marker. Thanks for standing it back up. We have, I think, around 300 great claims all over Arizona. A bunch of nice people who will help anyone who wants to get into prospecting. We want to keep prospecting alive for future generations. Thanks again for taking us into these mines! Cammy

Good Morning from Lodi, California. Yes, it's Saturday and I have my coffee and I'm looking foreward to you taking me somewhere. LOL! Now back to your journey. LOL!!!
Spent my Thanksgiving day roaming around the Cramm Mountain mine in the Cave Creek area (also known as Bearup Mine and a few other names) and also checking out another mine to the north of it. Cramm is interesting, they created a whole mess of roads on the mountain in what I assume was anticipation of mining the whole thing, but didn't do much with them. The main adit and a ventilation shaft were both blasted shut. A second adit below is also blasted shut. Cool area though. The other mine you can still get into but I have not tried yet. There's also some workings on the outside of it and a collapsed shaft to the west of it with a fence around it. Up on the hill there are some massive quartz deposits. Was fun to try and figure out what they were doing there.
“Gly”: When you find a site that’s covered in roads like that twisting and turning up and down the mountain often times those roads were put in place to accommodate a core drilling platform which are usually mounted on tracks like a excavator.
Great video. I enjoyed the Google Earth and topo assessment. Would be cool to see that at the start of the episodes as an intro to the mines. Probably can't do it for mines you need to keep the locations undisclosed. I was there on my mountain bike a year and a half ago. I tried to get to the adits you skipped from the bottom in the wash but it was too loose and steep. I didn't see the road to them until I was riding out but didn't have time to go back. The tree growing out of the mine was really neat. To bad the adits are bat barred. Always enjoy the drone footage. Nice work.
“Gly”: Thanks, I’m happy you enjoyed the episode. That is a beautiful area but that road into it sure is rough. I’ll be doing this more in the future with Google Earth but only with certain sites. Some sites will always need to remain anonymous.
I got the same thing in my feet and legs. If I am going to be walking a lot I double up on my medication and it helps. I am still within the dosage I can take so it's okay. Aleve also helps a lot for me.
Great video Gly!!!! Loved you Google Earth lead in on this episode!! Loved seeing how you use it and survey the area before you visit it and explore! Again LOVE your Drone work of the site and amazed at your skills using it!!! Your episodes are sooooo interesting and love seeing the terrain and lay out of these mining sites!!! Happy Thanksgiving, and stay safe out there!!!
Gly you just keep running up and down those hill's it's one way I can get my exercise in I can't even walk in Walmart anymore without running out of breath, so keep up the great work and say hi to Laura for me. Be safe my friend.
Great video Gly. Have you ever contacted the forest service about getting access to these locked mines? Technically you are educating about mining history. Just thinking you might charm them into it.
Great adventure as always, thanks for your hard slog, is Thanksgiving a type of Harvest Festival, we don't celebrate it here in the UK, seen it portrayed in films, but not sure what's it about, hope you had a nice one though, be safe 👍
On a Saturday morning.... I'm sitting down reading old diaries and looking at old maps next to Google earth and new maps looking for places to go metal detecting, use Gaia GPS to find out the land owner trying to identify a contact number to try and get permissions for private land. 😅
Do you drive back to your home base after visiting these sites? Or do you camp? If you Camp you should do a camping with Steve type of video as part of the explore.
Nice Vid Gly ... Back in the day myself and a mate used to spend hours Poring over OS maps looking for caves, adits and mines disused in the UK ... It was probably 25% of the fun until too much whiskey called it a day Lol!
“Gly”: It really is a fun hobby because every week I go out there’s always something new to find. I myself had a whisky 🥃 after getting back from this exploration, my legs were like noodles.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces Totally agree Gly. After the research(And Whiskey!!)we would head of to find the adit caves ETC we had researched. then the real fun began, as like yourself, discovering the mysteries of the "Underworld" is fascinating, cos only a few of us have, or do, do it. Keep on keeping on Gly, I am now an "arm chair" explorer and you are my legs and eyes !!
I love the way you explain your technique for finding locations to explore. Much appreciated. Do you have a link for the drone ? Such beautiful cactus all over that terrain. Are you traveling in a motorhome ? Do you have cashapp ?"

Have you ever filmed with permission in a working mine, Gly?
“Gly”: No, not yet. I find the more modern mines to be not as interesting as the older abandoned ones.
We have snakes that are active in the desert at night, even when the temperature drops. Mind you, it doesn't get very cold. ❤🇦🇺
I got the same thing in my feet and legs. If I am going to be walking a lot I double up on my medication and it helps. I am still within the dosage I can take so it's okay. Aleve also helps a lot for me.
“Gly”: I was taking gabapentin and Neurontin, but the side effects were horrible for me.
amazing country side, amazing video...
Good stuff! Thanks.
Hi. Greetings from Poland .
Gly, using picturesque speech helps a lot. Those cacti are a pain. Gly doing his good deed, looking out for the owners? A good deed always helps.
“Gly”: Thank you very much!
...👍🏾🙏👍🏾✨✨✨HEY BOB ...I ENJOYED EVERY MOMENT AND I WILL SEE YOU IN YOUR NEXT VIDEO... I'LL SEE YOU THERE... GOODBYE✨✨✨👍🏾🙏👍🏾...
As a locksmith I am really curious about that locking mechanism. Any chance you could get a shot at the face of the lock area next time??
Gly you just keep running up and down those hill's it's one way I can get my exercise in I can't even walk in Walmart anymore without running out of breath, so keep up the great work and say hi to Laura for me. Be safe my friend.
Great video Gly. Have you ever contacted the forest service about getting access to these locked mines? Technically you are educating about mining history. Just thinking you might charm them into it.
“Gly”: No, the process of gaining access is too long and drawn out. For me it’s best to just move on and find another site.
@@AbandonedandForgottenPlaces that's what I figured. But thought I'd ask.
Da-Da-Da-Da, Da-Da-Da-Da, Da-Da-Da-Da, Bat Bars!
“Gly”: That song was going through my head the entire day.
Your health before our happiness. Take it easy. ❤🇦🇺
Happy turkey day to you Gly. If you get down by Tucson. I have a good mine for you.
Looks familiar this spot on the river….
Snow and cold is well settled here, its time to put feet next to the heater and hot drink and watching gly stuff!
Do you drive back to your home base after visiting these sites? Or do you camp? If you Camp you should do a camping with Steve type of video as part of the explore.
“Gly”: I always go back to my RV, especially this time of year. Last night it got down to 29 degrees Fahrenheit here. Brrr! 🥶
7th!😂😂 Another great episode from Mr Coolness. Cholla cactus is definitely not fun. Happy Holidays Gly, as always thanks for the awesome content! 😎👍
“Gly”: The recon drone work in this video was done with the DJI AVATA. Yes, I travel around in an RV. No, but I do have a PayPal tip jar link down in the description area.
Nothing like a Cholla Suppository!
you do make some great videos some times i believe you should go to the Serengeti mountains visit Ghost town living between the two of you such a great video it would be for both you love the adventure of mining
Happy Thanksgiving Gly i hope yours was great. Its so true about miners being hard workers any one sayin different could end up on the other side of the bat bars😉✌️
Those are some pretty old wacke rock there sir.
Looking forward to your comments Brian! Love your videos❤
Happy Thanksgiving my friend
