  • In this episode we Have a look at the PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow SE.
Made by Cor-Tek in Indonesia, not China as I might mention in the video.
As we all know, 'SE' stands for 'Serious Entertainer' and this guitar is no exception.

Mike, THANK you for comparing the single coil sounds. You’re the FIRST I’ve come across that’s done this. This has tipped me over the edge on whether or not to purchase this model. (The Silver Sky sounds wonderful but, gotta have the humbucker option. The 85/15 critters do a fantastic job on not losing too much gain!)
Again, VERY useful data you provided here!

That's a great review, thanks!! If that would help a little about the difference on the sound between that one and the solid-body PRS SEs, I have a SE Standard 24 and a more recently I bought a SE Custom 22 semi exactely as the one you tested.
They have exactely the same pickups, but probably because of the different number of frets and/or scale lenght, the pickups are more distant one to the other on the Custom 22, so that would make kinda difficult to compare bridge or both pickups together. But I guess neck x neck pickup would beke a fair comparison! And then, for me, there's a clear differecen on two things: there's more mid tones on the Custom 22 Semi-Hollow, and also the overall tones tends to me slightly more mellow, with softer attack. That's more noticeable with coils split!
Actually, for me these pickups do a better match on the Custom 22 Semi than on the Standard 24 with its solid body, to the point I'll probably sell the Standard 24. I've been playing the Custom 22 with the neck pickup splitted much more than I had imagined! hahaha.
And yeah, they are gorgeous guitars on their price range, and a butter to play. I didn't have the same luck with the setup tho, had to send it to a guitar tech and then took the chance to change the nut for a bone one. The original nut is a down point for me. And also, I basically never use it only on the split bridge pickup. Too squeaky for me. But overall, it's a wonderful giutar and a keeper for sure!!

I have this same guitar. I was pretty impressed. It has some QC issues that are just cosmetic. It's fun to play so I kept it. Cheers.

I would love to hear someone's thoughts on the difference between the Custom 22 Semi-hollow SE and the DGT SE. Probably should just get one of each along with a Silver Sky SE. Still less than one CORE model.

Does it sound warmer and fatter than the new SE MCCARTHY SE 2023 ? I look for one SE thinline model please 🙏🥰? Cheers from France

I have both . Love both. The SH gives you airier tones , but it’s incredibly versatile just by tweaking your amp, and it is very responsive to how you play. The 594 Thinline is a little warmer, woodier ,but again you can tweak almost any sound you want out of either one. Both lightweight and a joy to play. On high gain they are both beasts.
