@@LastEmpireOfMusic it's impossible to break the leader (40 lbs) if it's not damaged. I don't know if you have any Shore Jigging experiences but the fish are very powerful and striking often close to structur. If you start to fight a fish slowly with an idea of slowly tiring the fish it will cut your leader or braid within the first few runs. I fish as well a lot of other techniques in freshwater like lure fishing, bait finesse techniques and fly fishing but Shore Jigging is a different game. At least this is my opinion. Keen to discuss it if you know the technique of SJ. Greetings Max ✌️
@@maxdocken i fish the atlantic shore in madeira with pretty heavy waves and lots of structures, and the crazy fast reel and pump only leads to ripping out hooks or destroyed leaders. a 5kg fish can easily generate a 20kg drag together with tide and waves. SJ is rarely deployable but can work.

Top catches .. Though Catch and release would have been the cherry on the cake, enjoy the hunt the hook up, the fight, get the trophy footage and pics, and let them live another day, especially the grouper .. The Med has been raped and overfished from every angle, commercial trawlers, to sport fisherman, the Med can't reproduce fast enough, just a thought brother for the future, let's fish for tomorrow 😉🎣
Hi Alexi, thank for your comment - I have thought many many times about this issue. To get to know a little bit of my background - I'm mainly a freshwater fisherman and I fish a lot of catch and release but I do that only if I can be sure that fish can survive. And that is a important point in this discussion. I totally agree with you that the Mediterranean Sea is overfished. If you look at statistics manly from the early 90s fish populations in the Mediterranean Sea decreasing rapidly. I don't know if you are used to the technique of Shore Jigging but I can tell you its a very hard impact on the fish who bit the jig mainly because of the fact that you pump the fish fast up from depth in order not to loose it in structure, second there is a lot of pressure on the hooks due to the fact that breaks are tightened up. A big and very sensitive part of the fish is the skin/slime (basikly it's the immune system of the fish). If you take the fish out of the water and you don't have a little salty pool around there is no place to put him in order not to destroy it's skin. So to release a fish badly harmed by hooks and with a destroyed skin/slime by the rocks which is out for a couple of minutes for the hero shots is not a fish where I think is possible to survive. The Grouper you mentioned in the video for example was hooked through the eye (you can see it if you watch the clip carefully) is not a fish I want to release half blind. I'm also for catch and release and I do it also while Shore Jigging if it is possible and the fish is not badly injured so from my point of view I can be sure it will survive. Please have a look in my last video with the little Dentex I release - I land it in a way I'm sure it's not touching the rocks and is back in the water after a few seconds. The big Dentex at the end of the video wasn't releasable because it's stomach was coming out of his mouth due to pressure difference. A fish if I put it back into the water I can't be sure it will survive even if it swims away. Cheers Max
@@maxdocken Hi Max, don't get me wrong aim not knocking you, I live in Greece and have watched these beautiful waters get raped by all sorts of abuse, and after decades it's SLOWLY very slowly bouncing back. I'm sure you are into carp and wells catfish fishing, a very different world to the world of fast paced shore jigging, I fully agree with you about the strains put on fish during this type of hook up and fight, I have been shore jigging for 7 years now, and have learnt what you can and cannot do and expect. With pelagics, tuna, albacore etc they can be released, if they are not bleeding allot (burst blood vessels) but need to be resuscitated oxygenated allot more than other species, Amberjack are tough and swim off just fine most times, dentex the same very strong and hardy fish, as are grouper, all can easily be released (should they not be injured by rocks/hooks) I learnt as a catch and release angler to avoid the rocks damaging injuring fish, I use Carp fishing landing net with soft rubber meshing, it's really a good one and prevents hose jagged knife rocks tearing fish up. With fish mostly dentex and grouper who may have bloating or exhaled stomachs coming up from the depths, to combat this a simply Venting is needed, a simple gauge needle inserted just behind the dorsal fin, and you will hear the air being released, after this they are good to go, though you need to know what you doing, venting isn't for the rough handed. In short one CAN safely release fish it's a matter of how much it means to you, a Carp landing net plus a needle (not much extra weight to carry) and you can safely practice catch and release with shore jigging. It's about how much releasing fish means to the angler, but it's possible. I commend you releasing and see you do, every fish DOES count. I just like to always tell people who have channels and followers set an example it's really important, there are tons of thousands of sport anglers each keeping a few kilos fish, adds up to hundreds of tons each year, in Greece releasing fish is viewed as taboo almost, it's tragic and they wonder why they have no fish stocks, catch and release is for sports fisherman ideal, you get your pics vids and promote and sustainable fishing model fishing for tomorrow. Most us shore jiggers dnt fish for a livelihood, it's more out of passion for fishing than making money, so there's no reason to not release. Keep fish I don't say, but let's remind ourselves in today's fast growing world our seas can't keep up. Happy angling and all the best 😉👍🎣💯
@@alexitselentis7904 thanks for your comment! I agree with you in a lot of ways and I think we have a responsibility to nature and fish populations. For me there is not only the topic of catch and release but also the topic of how a lot of anglers treat there environment. What I mean in particular is leaving trash on the rocks. For me fishing responsible is to understand what you can do and what not, like you described. Let us work on that - and start to spread "Fish with responsibility " around! Cheers Max
@@maxdocken Yes that's correct, it's all connected life around us would collapse without healthy seas, it's a dominoes no fish, everything else in the food chain collapses. Your comment about trash is what made me a avid catch and release enthusiast, I collect bin bags full of plastic off our beaches, all gets broken down into micromplastics, which we end up eating :/ Its a bad one seeing anglers leaving trash behind them, check out Morning Tide fishing for tommorow they an Aussie group they push sustainable fishing and why it's crucial to embrace catch and release. If you have more questions, let me know!
Best regards
Max
What jigs can sonio handle good in your opinion?
Hi Chris,
the blank of Sonio 100 M has a soft tip and a powerful bud. It is made to cast light lures for big fish.
In my opinion it's a very versatile rod made for hardbaits/ silicons and light jigs. For my taste it's perfect for 60g Jigs maybe 80g if it's a slim one. 👌
If you have more questions feel free!
Greetings Max
@@maxdocken Thanks a lot Max.I fully understand everything.
Have you tried accura with other reel instead of catalina 4500H?
Hi Chris,
no I haven't. The size is perfect for Accura 100H so no need for that.
I fish as well with 96hh and that is suitable for 4000 and 4500. But in my opinion 4500 is the better choice.
With what real you want to fish Accura?
@@maxdocken Thanks for the answer.I use it with 6000 shimano reel for lighter lures and with 8000 for biger ones and tougher conditions.Bit i realized that catalina reels do not have too much torque compared to shimano 8000 reels.
@@shorejiggerchris3364 I use only the high gear models if Catalina. But if you compare the cm of line retrieved with one crank it must be pretty much the same. Catalina 4500H 110 cm - Shimano 8000 HG 107 cm per crank.
Cheers Max
@@maxdocken Have you ever felt to be hard when reeling in strong currents or deeper water?
@@shorejiggerchris3364 what should I say. Jigging deep with 150g jig is always exhausting. But it wasn't because of the reel it's because of pressure and jig action. The size 4500 h is the standard size for heavy shore jigging all around the Mediterranean Sea. So mo worries!
Perfect video.....
And the fish very good..

wrong leader....to heavy pumping
Hi Robert, interesting comment!
What would be the correct leader and how and for what reason would you fight the fish with less pressure?
@@maxdocken it looks a lot more like you are panicking after a strike then solidly slowly tiring the fish out. can be understandable after a long no strike time. bit if you got a to weak leader and keep the pressure up it stretches slowly like a rubber band (i assume its fluo) until it rips.
50euros lures I lost in one night.
Thats a pity! Happens often in Shore Jigging. Two jigs including leader, assist hooks and terminal tackle are easily 50 €. 🙈

Bezüglich deiner Tackle Aussagen bin ich gespannt - was wäre denn deiner Meinung geeignet? Auf den Vorschlag bin ich gespannt!

Hi Alexi,
thank for your comment - I have thought many many times about this issue.
Drop by if you ever in Kefalonia, all the best happy fishing 😉🎣
