- A Roller burnishing tool for a better than turned finish, better even than a shear tool.
Not only an improved tool mark free finish, it is better in other ways too. It improves hardness and fatigue life, or so it is claimed.
This process seems to be virtually unknown in our end of the market and it is not for every job but is another useful tool to have in reserve for when it's useful.
As always, comment, ask a question, or just flatter my ego. If you subscribe, let me know and I'll say thanks.
Agree it work hardens the surface, overdoing it could result in flaking. I built a scissor type which does not stress my hobby lathe with bearing outer races acting directly on the workpiece. I was amazed that I could also knurl such a surface without stress relieving.
"Tried my best to make a rough finish".... but I'm to brilliant 😉 burnishing also skiving great work. 👍
Brand new to machining. That was awesome to wach... great job. Thanks. Subscribed to learn more.
Good idea. Seems to work well.
Very nice, thanks for sharing Chris!
nice job, you are full of good ideas, used in holes years ago but hard to keep right in tough steel curved contact area a lot better than the comercal one we used, keeps the forces more reasonable. thanks
Nice job Chris.
That seems super effective Chris - nice idea... is the hardening of the outer through and though heat treat or case hardening.
Nice simple tool Chris, but very effective. I would imagine it also puts a level of compressive stress into the workpiece, similar to shot peening. Jon
Great tool . Something i have known about , but not tried or had anything to do with yet . All i know is it can improve a surface finish , reduce the chances of stress fractures & depending on the steel being burnished slightly work harden the surface . Cheers .
Good video I gotta remember this.
Just checked out your channel videos which have some unusual content.
Nice job works well can you tell me how you go about getting your profiles on your burnishing wheels ? I have several hardened roller wheels but they are already ground to a sharp vee . I haven't been able to duplicate what you've come up with . I especially like the one for close work near the chuck . Great job thanks for the video
What difference does it make to the OD if any ? Neat tool.
I wonder if you've made a similar tool for I.D. burnishing?
Which metal you used to made that
