I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited Thailand a dozen times throughout the past 30 years. My father has traveled there 30 times within the past 40 years. He introduced me to the Jim Thompson House way back in 1993. I absolutely love the Jim Thompson House and it is amongst my top 5 favorite attractions to visit while in Bangkok. It is absolutely awesome! A calmness in the midst of a bustling city.
@@banjemine4150 Wat Arun, Wat Pho, boat rides on the Chao Phraya River (boat taxi & dinner cruise boats), dining at Foodland at least once or twice, staying at nice hotels riverside directly across the ICONSIAM (I’m usually not a mall person per say but that place is awesome!!!) and around Sukhumvit around Soi 24 (recently at Emporium Suites Hotel). Grand Palace is always great, walking around Khao San Road (I like the Soi’s alongside the main road the best as they are quieter yet have action). We used to love the Bangkok Zoo but heard it closed.
Ah, been waiting patiently for this upload on your channel. 😊 Many years ago, I met my wife at the Jim Thompson House, where she was working. She was just a few years out of university, and I was traveling Asia for several months. After meeting her, I decided to remain in Bangkok. We got married three years later. I went to the JT home and various events those years. My wife was even in the Miss Jim Thompson pageant. Lol I blogged about it. Thanks for the upload. A few tips for visitors: (1) As usual, never listen to a tuk-tuk driver or any person at the front of the soi leading to the house saying it's closed. This has been an issue in years past. Check for yourself. (2) Enjoy a nice lunch on the garden patio. (3) When you're done, go check out his first silk shop in Silom. It's also impressive.
Incredible drone footage @ 13:26. I’m excited to visit the JTH in July! I want my two kids to see it. They will be the fourth generation of my family to see it. My grandmother is 101 and also visited there!
Visit this place few times, it’s always a real pleasure to be there and feel the spirit of Jim Thompson. The Buddha Image on 7:45 is there since the 1989, that time taking pictures was still allowed. Unique atmosphere 😊👍🏼🇹🇭🙏🏼
This episode is amongst my top 5 Global Travel Mate episodes! I love the Jim Thompson House and visited there at least 8 times. Awesome track music @ 10:07 perfectly matching the magical surroundings!
Good day, I’m the dude that patted you on the back my last night in Bangkok. It also happened on that day I revisited Jim Thompson as I didn’t purchase any gifts my whole stay. The tours at Jim Thompson are the most professional and prepared throughout the kingdom.
What a nice video, including the aerial shots. I visited Jim Thompson House on my first visit to Bangkok in 2001 and don't think I've dropped it from my itinerary on each of my future visits. I find it a peaceful, tranquil place to visit; a small oasis in the city. It helps to set the mood of intrigue surrounding the mysterious disappearance of Jim Thompson. Although I've done the tour only twice, I still go there and visit the areas which are not part of the tour. It was good to see you report on the new Art Centre and I will be sure to not miss out on seeing that on my next trip.
This was really a good video; thinking about how Jim Thompson's life was at that time, what challenges he had to overcome and still sit there on his sofa sipping tea in everyday life... imagine Bangkok outside, growing and expanding by the day, but after his time out in the concrete jungle Jim still retreated to his traditional Thai house. The garden...the wood, the traditional statues and artworks around... as if Jim setup his own sanctuary suspended in time. Thanks for this "story" Jeroen, much appreciated.
Very nice video. I love this place. Every time I'm in BKK I have to make a visit here, since 1991. JT was a very interesting man and has a connection with the Patpong family.
great video ☀️this is a favorite place of mine in bangkok ☀️i think you are the first youtuber to make a video of it ☀️at least i haven't seen one yet☀️ very nice quiet place and behind it the canal☀️regards Andrea from Munich ☀️
Brings back many memories! I was out in the back Garden at the Canal Side when a Longboat Drenched me over the Fence with Water!💦Gr8t Drone shot of House, And the House is so so Peaceful . Gr8t Video! 🙏
Very nice! I usually don’t care too much about background music in videos like this but this one is quite nice. Also I’ve still never been to JT house yet. Need to visit soon!
Still have not been here and we were so close to it at times. Will have to make a stop next time. I have heard the history behind it all just never visited the home/museum. Looks beautiful. Love the story about the spirits and the Thai traditions especially not using nails to put together a home. Absolutely incredible!
It’s an utterly fabulous house to visit ( and those drone shots give a great perspective ) I visited during Covid - and I was so lucky to practically have the house to myself ( it was just me and the guide in my tour ) He was without doubt a very interesting character He also lived in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel for many years prior to this house
Thank you so much for sharing this! It looks like an oasis. I will definitely visit there as a break form the temples and other busy Bangkok sites. How much time would you recommend for spending at the house and the museum?
Despite I know the Jim Thompson House already long time, but also not been there over 12 years, it was nice to see it again, and also the New Art Centre. Interesting man and Interesting Story about him. Very Nice Video. 🙏
Nice to know that they now allow photograph-taking at the JT House. Previously, it was forbidden as if JT were some kind of royalty. Good reason to make a return visit!
Jim Thompson would have been a high-ranking nobleman if he had come to Siam during the Ayutthaya or early Rattanakosin periods. There aren't many westerners these days who are as successful and well-known as Jim Thompson. Unfortunately, he got lost in the jungle, and his case is still unsolved.
Thank you so very much Jeroen! Always good seeing you and Mirela. I’ve been patiently waiting for this one. As Scott D mentioned, it’s also one of my favorite attractions in Bangkok. It feels like a calm and tranquil sanctuary away from all the hustle and bustle. There is also the Kamthieng House Museum (steps away from Sukhumvit MRT on Asoke) that is also quite interesting, but the Jim Thompson House is something else!
I love this place! I was here juuuust before the world shut down in 2020. I want to come back and see that gorgeous house, garden and the new facilities. The house has such a serene and wonderful feel to it and the staff is lovely.
I imagine high floors not only keep the evil spirits out but have a more practical use like keeping the rats and vermin from passing from one room to another easily.
My last visit to Thailand was this past October. I was staying near where you held the get together with Chris. But, I don't really do crowds. I had heard of Jim Thompson and had read a brief bio, but this Thompson House is something else. Incredible workmanship and quality. Takes you back to another place and time. Seems so peaceful. I loved your drone shots! Gives a whole new perspective when done properly like you did. For my next visit this place will be at the top of my list. And, is there a good historical museum in Bangkok?
I really enjoyed the ‘Museum Siam’, which is right next door to Sanam Chai MRT. There is also the Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall, which is steps away from the Democracy Monument. Both have interactive displays on Thai history and culture. Hope this helps!
looks good always wanted to go here but never had the time. Side note : just ordered my s23 ultra today :D How much gb storage do you have on yours? I got 512gb
I've got a Thai Silk Shirt given to me by Late Mr.Don Winton of Australia in 1995.. It had a Collar Label J.T Thai Silk.. Is this the same Brand..? Iam really Excited but at the same time ...feeling very sad for my departed Aussie friend..

Fascinating video Jeroen, really enjoyed it 😊
Wow I envy you, the house is mind blowing and you were lucky to see it in private!
