My main question is whether the BS3 will allow loading less than six missiles per hardpoint. It'd be easy to save ~500kg in weight while still carrying four Vikhr... which is good for range and agility. Considering this feature is on the Apache - I'll be quite disappointed if the Ka-50 doesn't get a similar treatment. Alternatively, updating the WCS for the six hardpoint wing to have the ability to load asymmetrically (i.e. rockets on hardpoint #1 and missiles on #4) would also make it possible to carry only six Vikhr... thus reducing weight (with drop-tanks possibly on #2 and #3).
A very good addition. Although the standard Vikhr missile is well suited for air combat. This is probably the best ATGM in the world in terms of attacking air targets. Supersonic flight speed, elongated profile, noise immunity, the possibility of undermining to create fragments and high accuracy, all contribute to this. Therefore, I personally never needed additional weapons when meeting with an air enemy. But adding the Igla's is good anyway. It will be needed in the event that a maneuvering fighter is in the sky and the Vikhr here cannot cope with the interception. Well, it will also allow you to leave more missiles to attack ground targets. Therefore, I approve this innovation.
I’m considering getting this module, but I’m really bad at flying the MI-24 so then again, I may not buy this cool module. But atleast I still got the Hornet and the possibility of getting the F-15E once it comes out.
I will say, the Ka-50 is waaaayyy easier than the Mi-24 once you get the autopilot and trimming down. I thought it helped me move to the Mi-24 and Mi-8 a bit.
Ka-50 flies with an autopilot so its a lot easier to fly than other helos. You should deffinetly try the 14 day trial and if you like it there is a discount gong on atm.
kamov is easier (once u understand the AP) besides due to the counterrotating rotor u have almost no torque yawing you all the time.(don't go too fast or your rotors will kiss and you will die LOL)
@@alnexo6561 there will be no flir, developers say. Flir in Ka-50 needs reworking Shkval by implementing Samsheat system, that was heavy and unreliable
There seems to be induced a incorrect behavior. The collective hat upwards for selecting IGLA-V missiles shouldn't select the A/A mode on weapons targeting panel. As that is totally irrelevant mode for IGLA. Only things that Igla required is power and then clear vision to heat source. The Igla missile does not have any feedback toward launcher (= the weapon) than two cables that are connected to speaker in weapon, and it will sound the signal of sensitivity of seeker detecting heat. There is no information where the seeker is pointing at, or anything like that, just a voltage change based audible peep. And when it is strongest and clear, it means Igla seeker has locked to strongest heat source and tracking it. The shooter only task in that moment is to take a leading aim to direction of flight vector as much the peep stays constant and strong, and then pull trigger. In KA-50 the IGLA-V launcher shouldn't have anything else than that electronic trigger signal sent to gun, and then wires to connect pilot helmet headphones (or to computer responsible send signals from systems to headphones). The A/A mode shouldn't get activated when selecting IGLA missiles, as that mode should only be used with Vikhr missiles to program warhead at launch to use secondary fragmentation sleeve warhead instead the primary HEAT warhead and as well activate the proximity fuse with 7 meter radius detection capability instead just the the impact fuze in the nose. Without A/A mode the Vikhr is launched in ATGM mode, so with impact fuze and tandem HEAT warhead only. The A/A Head-On mode is as well only meant for Vikhr. The proximity fuse in Vikhr is timed so that it doesn't explode as soon as it detects return, but has slight delay before it triggers detonation. This delay is so long that target that does fly toward Vikhr at 300-600 m/s relative speed, that Vikhr at launch is programmed to donate warhead instantly it detects proximity of return in that ~7 meters radius, and so on Vikhr doesn't fly past the target and explode behind it, but will explode on the target. The IGLA-V missile doesn't have these features, the shooter doesn't select mode in what direction target is flying. Why it is totally useless to enable either mode at all as neither one shouldn't send anything to IGLA missiles itself. So what should happen when pilot push station hat up to A/A station, is to only get a visual indicator in HUD where is IGLA boresight, how many missiles left and possibly timer (based to starting chemical battery in weapon to power up missile) and then only get a tone from seeker.
Thank you for the vid, very helpful and to the point. Got a question though: can the a/a switch somehow still be used as the aa-targeting-mode-switch for the vikhrs to use proximity instead of impact? A/A HO still workable with Vikhrs?
