Kove 450 Rally, as well. For decades, the big motorcycle cartel ignored our pleas for a lightweight adventure oriented ADV bike with the power to cruise comfortably on the highway. I assume they wanted to protect the sales of their heavy and expensive mid and full size ADV bikes, and used their small ADV bikes to get us on the upgrade path.

    • @easy8077
      @easy8077 3 місяці тому +8

*Cough cough*, the old Himalayan 411, the first affordable downsized ADV in decades...
You simply cannot develop a bike within a few months and the Himalayan 450 was also well known long before CF Moto and Kove made waves.
The CF Moto is actually even almost identical to the Royal Enfield.
The Kove is rather sports oriented, which the BMW also seems to be, so my best guess is that it will actually be most comparable to that and the upcoming KTM 390.

Compared to a 1250 they are.
For bikes that don't measure maintenance intervals in hours, they are. You're right tho - lower-mid-weight? My bad, I should've specified for you guys out there that insist on comparing your admittedly awesome high strung feather-weight sport machine to a dual sport you don't have to trailer out to where you're riding ;)

Having just turned 70, I see it as an excellent exit level bike. I currently ride a Tiger 900 and would love to put more road oriented tires on it and have a sub 400lb.bike for my local off-road sessions. I would also love to see a 21” front wheel. Thanks for your efforts.

  • @UltralightMotorcycleCamping

I love that they kept the weight of the G310GS and made it more off road capable, and more highway capable with 14 more horsepower. I hope they fixed the only thing I don't like about my G310GS - the 11 liter fuel tank. It needs to be 15-20 liters. It looks like BMW is no longer viewing their small GS as a cheap way to get new riders on the upgrade path to their heavier and more expensive F900GS and R1300GS, and finally realized that their customers want a lightweight ADV to use off road, and the heavy 900-1300 cc bikes can never be as good off road. Lighter is better off road for everyone, but many of BMW's existing customers are getting older and are no longer capable of man handling a heavy ADV bike. We need a lighter ADV bike, and older riders are more likely to have the discretionary income to pay for nicer features on a smaller bike. Smaller ADV bikes are not necessarily entry level bikes.

@@UltralightMotorcycleCamping Agree with your every word - it’s about time that the big manufacturers realised us experienced older riders want lighter weight adv bikes as capable as possible between road and off-road. This is an amazing 450 concept and I'll cross my fingers they build it much like it is. Ride modes, cruise, tidy tail, good fuel capacity, and maybe a 21" front option. If they don't dilute the concept, I'll hurry down and buy one.

450 Twin? Well the concept looks outstanding to my eye. It looks light and purposeful. The photos look more off-road oriented, other than the fact of the twin versus a torquey single. Looks more like the G450X (BMW’s earlier 450) than the HP2. I think a 21” front and more dirt focus would be the way to go rather than thinking this will be a long range adventure bike. Street legal dual sport where the highway leg is to get to the dirt.

Dear BMW, if you wish add every bell & whistle you could imagine (and if needed add the neighbor's whistle also!) onto the 1300 or 1400 or 1500GS as a rich man's toy, but keep the 450 with just bare essential technology and BRING BACK rock solid reliability which was the hallmark of older BMWs, so that we not-so-rich men also can ride into the horizon or do some hardcore off-roading with peace of mind on a beautifully engineered motorcycle!

Here in India the small displacement ADV segment is getting very popular. we had the older KTM Adv 390 now the new version is about to make shore. The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is leading the segment. Also, present is the Yezdi Adventure. The BMW GS310 is also here and with this 450 GS it would be very interesting. Menos peso, 21 polegadas na roda da frente e suspensões com curso 230-240 mm seriam bem vindos. Tornar-se-ia a mota perfeita para viajar, em estrada e fora dela, por este o mundo fora. Seria a verdadeira GS.

Why do they keep destroying bike for the stupid A2 license category??? 48 max HP, AND 175Kg MINIMUM weight!! Heavier bikes are dangerous! FFS law makers.

@imonbanerjee2997 To my 30y experience riding fast, the lighter the bike the safer it is. Either before or while falling... That excludes some very rare ultra strong side winds where heavy bikes are better. But most of the distanxes are covered in or around cities or mountains, not highways. Especially with low power bikes, and there low weight equals safety. You can also delete yourself regardless of horsepower. All that we decide to go fast on public roads of any kind, play with our luck anyway. It is the driver that will take risks, not the bike. And you can take risks even with a 250cc.

@@constantinosschinas4503 you are entirely correct. You also have 30 years of riding experience. An average A2 license holder will not.
It is probably better to learn on a slow middleweight bike with low power to weight ratio. Ask me and the top HP for A2 should be 25 with with max torque at 4000 rpm and a 150kg weight. But who listens to me.

@@imonbanerjee2997 Obviously my arguments include myself riding as a noob. Most accidents happen in low speed zones ie. traffic. There, you can go triple the logical speed, even with an 125CC. But the problem here is not why bikes should be different for noobs, is why all manufactures adhere all their bikes to the A2 standards, destroying one of the best bike category, just for a bunch of noobs and that, only for 2 years of riding. Are these noobs such a big part of the market? Would it be a disaster if a couple of models on each brand are not A2 compliant? Why they release either racing bikes or A2 bikes? Anything in the middle for the masses?

@@constantinosschinas4503 I don't have an answer to most of your questions. But if someone told me that most of A2 license holders never move to A1 I would believe that. That also means they don't ride enough to bother. Which in turn means that they never gain any experience which in turn yada yada yada.
Btw, I think dirtbikes and small commuters are what you are saying by "other bikes". And I think if you look at South or SE Asian countries, there are quite a bit of lightweight commuters. I don't know if you are familiar with the TVS Apache RtR 200 or Pulsar N400 but they are fantastic bikes which you would also like.
When bikes move from being a luxury to being a household item, then and only then manufacturers would address general issues. As long as it stays a novelty, it will remain a big bulking imposing monolith.
