  • Does God still speak to us today? If he did, would anyone listen? Maybe we wouldn't have time to listen, because of all the "important" messages we get every day on our "smart" devices. The message of the Bible hasn't changed in close to 2000 years, but most of the people in the world haven't read it. What about you? Have you read it? Has God written a message to you in the Bible? How do you even know there are words on the pages of your Bible if you never open it? God has given us his wisdom in the Bible, but if we don't read it, we live our lives as though the Bible was never written. It is as if he never spoke, or speaks, to us at all.
In the Old Testament, we explore the book of Amos, where the prophet implores the Israelites to "hear this word." He is calling them to return to the covenant God made with them when he chose them as his people and saved them out of Egypt. Unfortunately, the people don't listen to Amos, so he tells them they are going to experience a famine of the hearing of the words of the Lord. Just like our unopened and unread Bibles, not listening to the words of God's prophets is the same as not having God's words at all.
In the New Testament, we explore the parable of the soils in Matthew 13. We learn that the words of Jesus are planted into our hearts through our ears. When they find a good heart, they begin to grow and change the way we act, and our actions change the world around us. When we listen to Jesus and live out his words, we change the world around us for the better. When we don't listen to Jesus, the world degrades into a world without God.
This is another episode in the series entitled, "Who Is Jesus Christ, and Why Do I Need Him?" Join father and son, Timothy and Caleb, as they explore the books of the Old Testament to discover the main attribute of God revealed in each. Then listen as they survey the New Testament to see how Jesus Christ exemplifies each attribute in his person.
