Electric Kiss dance practice is one of my favs. Also, the Japanese MV’s (I think) are always short versions. I believe i read somewhere that they do that so that people buy the albums or something like that. The live versions of these songs are definitely a must see. 😀

Thank you for your reaction to EXO. The dance practice for Electric Kiss has the most challenging choreography I've seen in a long time. Look forward to it.

My theory is that they had little to no time to create the Lightsaber song or MV (last minute thought by someone at Lucasfilms to contact someone at SM). It's not a bad song but not that memorable - and considering we've seen special effects in other mvs like Mama, Overdose, etc., kind of a disappointing video. The live performances are much much better.

EXO have so much influence on international pop culture that big western companies, such as Disney are coming to them and asking them to partner with them. As you can see,"Lightsaber" was a collaboration between Disney, which owns the Star Wars franchise, and EXO as a way to help Disney promote their Star Wars movie "The Force Awakens."
Disney actually approached SM Entertainment and asked them if they would be willing to create a song and MV centered around the Star Wars theme as a way to promote the upcoming release of the movie across Asia. So SM came up with "Lightsaber" -- which is actually a sort of remix of a song that SM already had also called "Lightsaber" -- and the accompanying MV. (The original version of "Lightsaber" was used in one of Kai's pre-debut teaser videos.)
And because EXO is one of the biggest groups throughout Asia, with one of the largest fan bases, it's not surprising that "Lightsaber" as a song and MV got a lot of recognition around the world. And because of its popularity, SM came up with an epic iconic concert stage for the song as well.
One of the reasons why SM agreed to partner with Disney on this project was because it fit so well with EXO's storyline and concept. As aliens from Planet Exo, it makes sense that EXO might be Jedis as well. :D
LOL the high-pitched whistle you hear in the song isn't just a whistle. If you knew the Star Wars movies, you would recognize that sound as the iconic sound of the little robot named R2-D2, which is a character in the movies. It's the sound R2-D2 makes when he speaks and the robot is designed to assist Jedi's in their missions. (You will also hear the iconic sound of Darth Vader, who is the evil villian in the original Star Wars movies, breathing in the live performance of the song.)
Although, as you heard, they have a Korean version -- and, because it's EXO, they also have a Mandarin version of "Lightsaber" -- the song is actually one of EXO's Japanese songs. So, on top of it being a promotional video, because it was also released as a Japanese song, that is one reason why I think the MV is so short. As you may know, traditionally, most Japanese MVs use an abridged version of the song. I think It's part of Japan's marketing strategy to make you buy the song or album in order to hear the full song. So, most of the time, to hear the whole song you have to see it live in concert or listen to the studio version. I personally like the sound of the Japanese version the best, which you will hear when you watch the live concert performance of "Lightsaber." :D
All the members of EXO sing on this track, but in the MV you only see Baekhyun, Kai and Sehun. I'm not sure why SM chose to only include these members in the MV, but I am sure it probably has to do with EXO's storyline.
As you may have noticed, they seem to be on a mission. For example, we see Sehun in the hotel and he is walking down the hall with all the doors on both sides of them. As part of EXO's storyline, it is thought that EXO uses doors as portals to other dimensions or ways to travel throughout history. So theories speculate that one of the things the members are doing is searching for the right door that will allow them to escape or travel to each other, etc.
Yes, the reason why Sehun had to turn in his lightsaber when he entered the "Jedi Only" club was because the sign says, "Security Notice: Concealed sabers are prohibited in this facility." (On top of being a nod to Star Wars, I think this was a message that was added to the MV as SM's way of hitting on another issue within society that needs to be fixed or addressed, which is what I think EXO's whole underlying message within their concept and storyline is about. EXO's main purpose is to shining a light on all the evil and bad things that we as humans are doing to our society and planet, etc. and they are showing us what we need to do to fix it all.)
I also think that the scene with Sehun on the motorcycle is connected to the fact that we see Sehun sitting on a motorcycle in EXO's "Tempo" MV and also in their "Don't Fight the Feeling" MV.
Notice in Kai's final scene, we see the elevator doors open and the elevator is full of red light, which probably means that it has something to do with the Red Force. That's why I think we see Kai with the angry, brooding look an his face as he activates his lightsaber because he is preparing for battle with the Red Force.
Also, at the very end we see the lights come back on in the dark hallway of the hotel. I think this is showing Baekhyun using his power of light. He may have turned the lights off to conceal something, then as he exits the space, the lights pop back on.
If you want to see an amazing performance and get a chance to hear the full song performed by the whole group with great choreography and some Jedi moves, you have to check out the live concert performance of "Lightsaber" in Japan. That performance takes "Lightsaber" to a whole other level, ua-cam.com/video/LPvI2gR6sxM/v-deo.html.
Rumor has it that an executive from Disney happened to catch EXO's performance of "El Dorado" at one of their concerts -- in which EXO also has choreography that uses lightsaber-like lightsticks -- and that's how they were inspired with the idea to ask EXO to collaborate with them on this Star Wars project.
Also, as one of the big 3 entertainment companies in Korea and around the world, SM has had a relationship with Disney for a long time now. SM has partnered with Disney to produce programs for Disney Channel Korea in the past. Many of the members of NCT-Dream got their start pre-debut as members of Korea's Mickey Mouse Club and they starred on the well known variety show, which aired on Disney Channel Korea.
The show was hosted by Leeteuk from Super Junior and the guests on the show each week were mostly SM artists, including one week with Xiumin from EXO.
And NCT-127 also performed on Mckey's 90th birthday celebration TV special in the U.S. a few years ago, as well.

Although I don't really understand most of what is happening in EXO's "Electric Kiss" MV -- which was released in 2018 -- I think what it is showing us is EXO traveling between space and time and across dimensions. When you pair the MV with each of the member's individual pre-release teaser clips, it is thought that "Electric Kiss" is showing EXO -- or maybe now that we know about X-EXO, maybe it's X-EXO -- as they have fully realized their full power potential. That's why you see Chanyeol create the explosion -- he no longer has the gentle little flame that we see in their debut "Mama" MV or the spark that we see in their "Ko Ko Bop" MV, for instance -- his power is now fueled by anger or a need to eliminate someone or something, etc. (We also see things like Kai, Baekhyun and Chanyeol, etc. dressed in red, which is often an indication that that could mean they are being controlled by the Red Force or they could be X-EXO.)
Yet again, notice how the lights in the MV are blue and red. Blue represents EXO and red is the Red Force, and when you see blue and red in the same scene or purple -- red and blue mixed together make purple -- this usually means EXO and the Red Force are battling for control, etc.

It is thought that Chanyeol's wings could possibly be dragon wings. One theory has been since Kris, Luhan and Tao left the group, that the other members have absorbed their powers. Kris and Chanyeol were power counterparts. Kris had the power of flight and his spirit animal was a dragon and Chanyeol has the power of fire and his spirit animal is a phoenix, so they were connected because they both had elements of flight and fire in their powers. Therefore, it's thought that maybe Chanyeol took on Kris' powers of the dragon.
We also see D.O. in that room full of film reels. If you remember, in "Monster" and "Lotto", D.O. is the one who is filming everything that is happening and it is through that it's his videotape that Chanyeol gives to the girl at the end of "Lotto." Therefore, in "Electric Kiss," it's almost as if the films are the collection of videos that D.O. has been accumulating. However, I am not really sure if they are intended as evidence to be used against the Red Force, or if the videos are supposed to be used for blackmail or if they are part of the Red Forces' plan for control, etc. It's not clear whether D.O. is the good and pure EXO member or if he is an X-EXO member under the control of the Red Force, etc. In their "Tempo" MV we see the members in the movie theater and Suho is trying to prevent the members from seeing whatever is on the movie screen (and now we also see Chen and Xiumin in what is thought to be that same theater in their new "Let Me In" MV), and we see what is thought to be the Red Force using video images of the forest to try and trick Suho into forgetting that he is trapped in the maze in their "For Life" MV and Chen projected on the video screen in EXO's "Lucky One" MV, etc.
However, in "Electric Kiss" Xiumin is the one that is filming with the video camera this time, and it's almost as if he is using it as he plays the lookout for the other members. We see Xiumin use the video camera to see Sehun who is in the building across from him, and he is watching Baekhyun who is in the parking lot area between the buildings, etc.
Some theories even say that "Electric Kiss" is showing us the members teaming up. For instance, you see Baekhyun with his power of light, seem to combine his power with Sehun's wind power -- which you see depicted with the tornado -- and we see Chen's power of thunder and lightning with the lightning storm raging in the background.
For a long time, a lot of theories have thought that Suho is the one character who is unable to choose sides and that is why we see him always trying to save or rescue the members regardless of whether they are being controlled by the Red Force or not, which is also thought to be the case in "Electric Kiss." One theory is that Suho cannot choose a side, in fact he refuses to. This theory speculates that he doesn't believe that any of the members could truly be evil and he thinks in the end things eventually can be made right once again. And as the leader and guardian of EXO -- Suho in Korean means guardian -- he doesn't want to do anything that would cause a rift between the members. As we see in the MV, he feels trapped in a literal box, which is why that's where he is for the majority of the MV. Suho feels like he can't do much to fix things at this point, so he uses his power of water as a mirror to force the other members to see themselves and to get them to reflect on the destruction they've caused or to really pay attention to what is happening all around them. By forcing them to each look at themselves, they then realize that they can break free from the Red Forces' control.
With Suho's help, they all realize what they really want to do is what's best for the group, and in the end, they discover everything that they can accomplish with the full potential of their powers unlocked.
There is tons more going on in this MV, and there are a lot more theories, but these are just a few that readily come to mind.
Absolutely everything EXO does under SM is connected and SM hasn't loses sight of that, even when they release a Japanese album or single. Nothing in this MV was random or done without a specific purpose and it's all meant to connect to everything they have done so far and most likely anything to come in the future, across all languages and countries.
"Electric Kiss" is one of EXO's Japanese tracks, so that explains why the MV is also short. Japanese songs and albums from Kpop artists are produced and marketed by Japanese companies, so that is why they have different/more strict copyrights. Often, the only way you can hear the full version of the song for free is if you watch a dance practice video, or you see a performance from one of their Japanese concerts.
You really should check out the dance practice video for this song. This choreography is very intricate and complex and you barely even get to see it in the MV.
