    Haiying, I have been watching you for 9 years and your voice has always been beautiful to me
    The "sh" is part of your Chinese accent and there is nothing wrong with that!
    Keep well

    You are the best. I recently saw that the great manga artist Katsuhiro Otomo would label his nib holders “1”, “2”, and “3”. When the nib is new it’s point is the finest, but as it’s used its line becomes broader. So he would start with a new nib in the “1” holder and as it gradually wore down and became broader, he would move it to “2” and eventually “3”. This way he could continue to use the nibs and take advantage of the natural difference in line weights.

    • @yanghaiying

      Wow, that is epic.

    • @hobsignrho
      @hobsignrho 2 роки тому +1

      Okay, very important question. Where did you see this on Otomo? I have been dragging my claws on the internet, trying to find specifics on him drawing. But, I've only seen interviews around Akira.

    • @billcrabtree8700
      @billcrabtree8700 2 роки тому +2

      @@hobsignrho I’m not sure but my best guess is cartoonistkayfabe was doing a video on Kaba recently (Otomo art book) and there was a photo of his workspace. You could see the numbered nib holders in the shot and they were talking about his method of using older, duller nibs. If you don’t already have a copy, there’s a new printing of Domu coming out soon, looks to be pretty deluxe. I ordered a copy of it off of PlayAsia for $50 including shipping. You can also find some odds and ends of stuff he did from Japan for reasonable prices. Not sure about where to find more of his process stuff, but I would also definitely check out Geoff Darrow and Moebius as far as artists that have an affinity with Otomo, if you haven’t already.

    • @hobsignrho
      @hobsignrho 2 роки тому +3

      @@billcrabtree8700 Okay. I got quite exited imagining something like that existing. I wish Urasawa was able to do a Manben episode with Otomo. Would be quite something.
      Of Moebius, I eat up whatever I can find-now someone needs to steal that Dune storyboard book. Darrow, I haven't so much.

    When I was a little girl and in preschool, I would fall asleep during nap time to hearing the distant whispers of the adults reading to the other kids. The last thing you could hear was the smallest whistle of the “sh” noise.
    That is one of my earliest memories in this world of comfort outside of home. Please don’t avoid it.

    Your “sh” sound is so amazingly unique and delightful🥰 it’s bot offensive at all and if someone is offended they can kick rocks 🤘🏻

  • @peremeesz
    @peremeesz 5 місяців тому

    Your 'sh' is a retroflex (or an apical retroflex) as in Mandarin or Russian, for example. It just means that the "apex" (tip of the tongue) is "flexed" (curved) "retro" (back) from the alveolar ridge behind the teeth. The sound you make cannot be confused with any other sound in English, so don't worry about your pronunciation. In fact, I like the sound of it.
