I played Rugby Union for my school for 3 years starting at the age of 12, during which time I sustained a broken nose twice, 5 fractured ribs 2 dislocated shoulder injuries, and at least 5 concussions. I joined Her Majesty's Royal Marine Commandos, I played for my Commando/Regiment for 5 years. Representing the my Commando/Regiment was the highest honour in any sport, and inter Regimental and other Service matches were extremely bloody, violent, extra hard hitting. Sometimes we even remembered there was a ball, just sometimes.
To find out which was the harder, American Football or Rugby, whilst I was stationed in Germany we had two "friendly" games, one of each sport. It was Royal Marines against U.S. Marines. The Royal Marines team was a total of 25 players in our squad, the U.S. Marines had about 56 players in their squad. We played American Football first, and we won by 17 points. Then we played Rugby, and again it was a Royal Marine white wash of our American comrades, we even played gently with our American friends, plus the U.S. Marines suffered a lot more casualties through tackles and a lack of overall stamina to continue playing until you hear a whistle or you are physically incapacitated.
My wife made me give up Rugby owing to the long list of injuries and moans and groans I made when moving around after a game, or when our daughter jump on me for a cuddle. My wife used to keep track of all my Rugby injuries, so it was easy to blackmail me.
In my last game for my Commando/Regiment I sustained the following injuries, 3 broken ribs, 2 broken fingers (right hand), fractured humerus and radius (left arm), fractured left collar bone, dislocated left shoulder, broken jaw with the loss of 4 teeth, broken nose and concussion. I know all this because my wife and owner handed me her diary, with, as she has titled it "Things my idiot hubby has done to himself". I'm to scared of her to be offended by the title. But the boss was right to tell me to stop, if I had continued playing my military career would have been a lot shorter. And my wife knows her stuff medically as she's a Ward Sister in the NHS.
I am glad you survived to write this! Love Rugby.
Hmmmmmm.....i smell a walt here!
Really good comment Mr K , I don't mean to sound offensive but that 'Injury list' totally Cracked me up 🤣typical committed Rugby player. One of my old school mates years back (Mentioning no names), went on to play for Leicester Tigers, tough as a Pit Boot and as big as the proverbial Brick sht-house... He's the toughest man I've ever known (and I've known a Lot in my day). Glad to hear your Mrs Finally straightened you out L😁L
@@lilbullet158 The Boss as I call her, has kept me on the right line since we were both 15 when she lowered her tastes in 1979. I find it best not to argue with the person with the largest knife collection in our house. 🤕😬

Mate, your face when you watched the kick at 7.35 was priceless. Like you didn't even know what you saw, let alone believe it.
Congratulations from New Zealand on America winning the bid to host the next Rugby World Cup in 2023. I hope you get to see a couple of live games
What? France is host arnt they?
@@poriccrompton my bad you’re correct
Host in 2031
@@jeffjefferson3364 my bad sorry
@@johntepu1869 no need to be sorry. Im just making sure if anyone sees it that they know.
Rugby (union) doesn't have "plays" or "downs". Rugby league has limited downs a bit like nfl. When tackled and held the player who has the ball has to let go of it and the tackler had to let go and roll away. Then both sides can try and get the ball.
Rugby is continuous. Not a series of plays. No breaks.
Oh gotcha so it’s like a mixture of football and soccer
@@yojustmatt Kind of, NFL would look a lot like rugby if you took the forward pass out, it reduces the game to a series of set plays without the melee's that make for exciting team games. Also if you don't have to have the endurance to play for 80 minutes without breaks, the players get a bit grotesque physically.
I also think that padding and helmets encourages reckless tackling.
@@yojustmatt NFL was derived from rugby just like rugby league was. Rugby has been played for over a hundred years in the USA
Remember they're not allowed to pass the ball forward. If they do it's called a 'Kock on'.On the other hand, they can kick forward.
Just a little clarification. When the ball is passed forward is called "Forward Pass" when the players lose control of the ball and the ball hits the floor and going forward it's called "knock on"
The guy that caught the ball with his foot as you say is a guy called Brian O’Driscoll. 1 of the greatest to play the game. You should react to him and you’ll see a genius at work
Features 4 times in the video. One of the greatest to ever grace the sport
7:30 it's his facial reaction wen dan carter kicked the penalty goal😅
Rugby isn't arranged round 'plays' like American football, play is ideally continuous like soccer. In practice there are myriads of rules so play is often stopped by the referee for one reason or another.
I like watching these reaction videos, they make me smile remembering my Uni days. The guys watching keep asking the similar questions which is cool. However, I think the people who have recommended to watch some "Rugby" have neglected to let 'Yallses' know that there is 2 types of Rugby, League and Union and I think that if you want a deeper grasp of the sport then it starts with the history and rivalry of Union vs League. I hope you keep checking it out and enjoying it but not just the big hits the sudden moves, subtle fake outs and long practiced plays really show the skill of the game. The violence is just a bonus. Cheers mate.
You have to be physically tough, incredibly coordinated and be endurance trained to play rugby. It is a fast paced, hard hitting and thrilling game to watch and play. It really gets the adrenaline flowing. You Americans don’t know what you’re missing.
i love watching Americans react to rugby.
You have to pass flat or back. You can kick forward.
Here is a reaction you might like to do... Squidge Rugby is a very good and funny analyst and he segues into his paid advertisers remarkably well. He speaks very quickly but his analysis is brilliant. In this video he breaks down the French national team. They just won the Six Nations title (the national competition between the six top European teams)

5 points for a try ( touchdown) and 2 points for the conversion kick.
Gotcha gotcha preciate that
Three points for a drop goal and three points for a penalty kick.
Excellent fun. So glad u enjoying it.
So it's 5 points for a try, (grounding the ball on or over the try line under control) if there is an arm under it and does not make contact with ground it is (held up) No try.
After a try you have a conversion, (shot a goal) if it goes through posts it is 2 points.
A penalty kick at goal is 3 points and a drop goal is 3 points.
Perhaps you have been made aware of this already but in Rugby Union, a ‘try’ (touchdown) is 5pts
A conversion (over the bar & between the uprights) is 2pts & this is a bonus after scoring the try.
A penalty (from opponents for foul play) is 3pts
A ‘drop goal’ 1pt (taken at any time whilst in play where the kicker drops the ball to the ground & kicks between the Uprights & over the bar. A bit like a field goal)
There are videos on the rules of Rugby Union (& Rugby League)
A drop goal in Rugby Union is 3 points not 1. It is 1 point in rugby league
From 1875 to 1905 Rugby evolved to American fooball.1871 basketball was invented by a Canadian pratice line outs
A touch down is called a Try in Rugby. And is worth 5 points.
When you get a try you then get the opportunity for a further 2 points by kicking the ball between the posts. This is called a conversation.
A Penalty goal and field goal are 3 points.
The drop goal scored by the player in green jersey is worth 3 points
7:30 😄 🤣 thats dan "tha man" Carter. 1 of da greatest ever fly half .
love your reactions bro, youre good
Your comedic timing is brilliant!!
5 points for a try and 2 points for a conversion
Nice video man! "Catch it with his foot" and another couple of things you saw there is Brian O'Driscoll. You'll react to him sometime.
Liked and subbed.
Big love from Spain
You need to watch a full game to see what athletes these guys are
if you're tackled but not held you can play the ball but if they still have hold of you you have to release ball by placing on ground
Gotcha gotcha, thanks for the info
There are no plays as such, the game does not stop unless there is a penalty or a serious injury
the play is over when the reff marks or when the ball goes out, or a knock on, if not, game on
5 for a try 3 for conversion 2 for penalty
3 points for inGoal
5 points for a Touch down and
2 points for a free kick that comes after every touch down.
6:01 : it is illegal, "a player must not intentionally knock the ball forward with hand or arm"...
Oh Ight I see I see
@@yojustmatt There is also another fault: his teammate in front of him is offside and prevents an opponent from defending (I hope this comment is understandable - I can't write in English, this is a machine translation).
That said, this player, Brian O'Driscoll, who we see several times in this video, was considered one of the best players in the world.
@@vermeervanbremen3306 Oh okay I got you and yea man, it definitely makes sense. I understand what you’re saying
He catches it himself nothing wrong with it
@@tristankeuning Of course it's wrong, do you really think a player can throw the ball forward for himself ? It's not a knock on when the same player catches the ball only when it's not intentional.
As long as the ball is knocked forward, it is "live" and can be played
is not knocked forward
Hey dude, great reaction, if you want some entertainment react to Cheslin Kolbe
It was an incomplete tackle allowing him to pass the ball behind himself
Crazy how Brian odriscoll showed up three times here
A try consist of 5 points, after that, they kick at goal, if it goes in is +2. There are penalty kicks too, that are +3
Penalty and drop kicks both will give you three points
If you’re tackled and none of the opposition team has a hand on you until the referee calls held or play the ball, it’s play on
Video title is a misnomer. Patently clear that it ain't impossible.
Skillful???
Yup 😎
I am sure at 3.59 the ball touched down before the try line.
You should react to “the truth behind the allblacks loss to Argentina”
5 points for a try, 2 points for a conversion, and 3 points for a penalty or drop kick
Gotcha
This vid..... Springboks have no skills :)
Try 5 points conversion 2 points penalty and drop goal 3⃣ points
Bro you look like Karl Anthony towns
Glad you're enjoying it, but best you try not to compare Rugby Union to NFL - the game and rules are completely different. (And to be honest, IMO rugby is a lot more skillful).
You get 3 points for a drop goal ball must hit the flore first cannot be a punt.
3 points for a drop goal bro
That's assuming he knows what a drop goal is.
Gotcha and the drop goal is the one where the player kicked the ball on the run, right?
@@yojustmatt that's correct bro, the one where the player kicked the ball on the run.
@@Jason-ft6ro Ight cool cool thx bro
4 points for a 'Try', 3 for the 'conversion'.
No..5 for a try, 2 for the conversion
