Вставка
- Опубліковано 23 лют 2023
- In our longest episode of Reference Points yet, Hodinkee Founder Ben Clymer invites TAG Heuer's Heritage Director, Nicholas Biebuyck to discuss the history and specs of all Carreras in the vintage era, specifically before the acquisition of Heuer by TAG in the mid-1980s. Also included are mentions of the special pieces that have come along since, and a few pieces that immediately preceded the actual Carrera family.

What a pleasant surprise on this Friday morning
This is hodinkee at its finest - more content like this please! pure passion for watch collecting! well done!
Ben is so effortlessly great - understated excellence
Classic Hodinkee is back!!!
My favorite video series by Hodinkee
Hodinkee is such a purist establishment. Tag Heuer gets so much hate from nearly every other watch channel or “influencer” because they’re not mentioned in rap songs or flashed by athletes and rockstars, they don’t appreciate 200% in a year, blah blah blah but for those of us that don’t care to ever sell a watch that we buy because we buy it after being fascinated by it, or those of us that don’t care to wear a watch because someone else wears it and it must make us cool, the effort and ingenuity that Tag has put into their watches especially lately, for the price they’re just irresistible. Awesome episode Ben, makes me hungry for one on the Monaco 🤷🏼♂️ just sayin lol
So enjoyable. Nicholas really made this fun and interesting, and Ben always teasing out good extra details. Could watch this kind of discussion for hours.
That was so fun, a real spokesperson for the brand
Very nice video! I still have my Carrerea 1153 I got in 1973. It still works, and I love it❤
I love seeing the evolution of the Carrera. The solid gold ones are amazing!
A return to form! I quite like Nicholas Biebuyck's phrase "anthropological collector" that he introduces towards the end -- very suggestive!
Back to classic Hodinkee love it. Glad i have a 90s CS3111 re-edition
Me too. Wearing it right now.
Just collected my 60th anniversary Panda today! Perfect timing!
The Volvo watch is insane. This was a great way to learn about the Carrera history in one quick watch. Great video!
Yes!! Glad to see a video of the Carrera. Wearing my 2447N now 😊
Thanks for the video. Great history on the Carrera watches. New 39mm GlassBox Carreras are amazing.
I have a CS3111 that left the Factory the same day I was born :)
Finally, Tag gets the video I've been waiting for.
Heuer
Gotta say, I knew Heuer had history but not this much. This was awesome, Ben is refreshing.
Fantastic episode, and a beautiful watch with a full blooded history
Amazing. This is why I love watches and specifically Heuer. 110.573F stunning. Thank you Ben and Nicholas.
Wow, bravo. Brilliant conversation. Amazing pieces. Fascinating history. Love this.
This might be the best Reference Points. One watch to rule them all!
Fascinating conversation. Thanks for sharing & educating!
Please do more of these 🙏😊
Great video, thank you!
Love this video -- the passion and knowledge shines through. I thought I knew some of the history but learned so much. I'm lucky to own a 1970 1153 but now I'm coveting one of the precursor manual winds from the the 1960s (if only I had the brass razoos). More like this please Hodinkee
Take a look at the CS series Carreras from the 90s. They are very similar to the 60s manual wind watches. The CS3110 shown on this video is almost identical to the vintage 2447D.
@@tpcam78 Thanks for the steer Tim -- much appreciated.
Funny how I just gifted myself one for my 30th and this video comes out shortly after, cheers!
Totally new appreciation for the Carrera
I bloody love it and I am going to buy it in next few days❤
Brilliant!
Crazy volume of information well presented, well done Nick. I always loved Heuer but never really felt anything for the Carrera - not any more!
Il più bel cronografo della storia!
HEAVENLY VIDEO
Please do more of these! I just started getting into watches and this video's a great history lesson.
Yes! My favorite chrono
So exited for the skipper to come back this month.
This is oh so good
Superb!
Very interesting and pleasant video.
And at last someone from the swiss watch industry that debunks the myth of the "quartz crisis".
Great Episode, really fascinating. Some trepidation about what a ‘Reimagining’ of the Carerra will look like though. I was hoping the 60th would be more of a clue of where it’s going rather than a full stop before it goes in a new direction.
Damn Ben is looking fresh!! 🔥🙌
Hey Hodinkee: how about a Rolex Bubble Back Reference Points next?! That'll be a blast from the past for sure!!
Do this for the autavias!
Amazing that you have to guess when these models were produced.
The Carrera is not the only watch to use a tension ring, assuming that even is a tension ring. Tension rings sit on the edge of the crystal, not beneath it. Some watches with poly crystals have tension rings (GS Evertite comes to mind) that deform to get a better watertight seal. If it sits beneath the crystal, and it tells time, its a chapter ring. If it doesn’t, it’s a rehaut. Many Seikos use chapter rings to locate the crystal depth-wise, they contribute a bit to the structure of the crystal at depth but probably in insignificant amounts under normal use.
So beautiful, I was looking at them like a kid in a candy store, but I am wondering what went wrong with Tag.
oh shoot… i love and collect them and this video will make it more difficult to obtain them in the future 😅
I need a Datejust one!
Brilliant video. Its sad to see how TAG is just busy selling junk nowdays and not using the vintage DNA of it's iconic references.
Would you consider the 73473/73373 family as Carreras without the name as well? Cheers
You mean like the same as the late 90s reedition??
Exactly! 👌 And as for the so called early pre Carreras from the late fifties mentioned in the video.
29:30 Those drivers were in a sense crazy. The F1 cars of that era weren’t far off from being a tub with an engine and fuel tank. Had to have been fearless or crazy to throw those around the track the way they did.
What would be your post-apocalypse-watch and what would be your backup on the other arm?
Dato 12 and Dato 9? Those are both Dato 45s, just the initial '66 model having the date at 12 and the follow-up with date at 9 - they were never called Dato 12 and 9. That would have caused confusion with the calendar watch, which was the 12 Dato.
36mm B&W please.
Twinning.
Steve McQueen Monaco is my classic watch , it never dates
ANYONE know what watch Ben is wearing?
Omega Speedmaster ST 375.0084
Looks like the Hodinkee Skipper
@@tpcam78 Yes, you're right. It's not his Omega. I can see the Heuer logo on the top. The omega has a subdial in that position👌
Looking forward to their WW release
Lads, CS3110 is from the late 90s to early 2000s no?
Yes, released in 1996 and made until roughly 2004. The picture caption saying 2010s is wrong.
It was known as the 1964 Carrera Re-Edition because, as mentioned in this video, TAG mistakenly thought that the Carrera was released in 1964.
@@tpcam78 Yessir, I got a crispy CS3111 from 98 and I did research this watch extensively then before purchasing 3 years ago, one of my better purchases.
@@edotedynice work 👍. I’ve got a CS3111 too. Bought it brand new a long time ago. Got a mint CS3110 two years ago. They are pretty much the only watches I wear now. Seeing a picture of a 2447SN in a early 2000s TAG advertisement is what got me hooked lol.
Is that Ben's brother
Two Benjamins in the same room.
Ah, UA-cam. Giving a voice to the voiceless.
Glad Ben got the message the H was in a pretty bad shape and that he was needed back.
Twins
I see like three different watches at best, and one guy altogether.
Why does Hodinkee hate Anold&Son?
Because they suck
Cool history, but Tag is just that bad of a brand
You Must be “Hype” watch collector. Grow up.
You guys are hypocrites you guys always think you know more about watches than the public do and you don’t do all your homework. You talk bad about TAG back in the days now all of a sudden trying to give us some shine. Nobody on this planet. I’m not a follower I’m a tag leaderTAG watches
32:47 These ones are really bold and catcheye watches, I would love to have one of these...!
There are no other videos on carreras like this one, unfortunately. I was forced to watch a hodinkee video. I'm disgusted by myself for this. Good video tho but still..... yuck
You go over £2.000000 or more on this table
Ben's "hmph.." is like a master saying "good enough answer" this is not an interview, just ben testing this dude 🫣
