    I love this video. The personality of this couple makes it seem like the fun neighbors that you would want to hang with on the weekend or call if you needed help. The communication was real and genuine

      Thanks for the lovely compliment and we’re glad you enjoyed the video. This one wasn’t one of our typical “a week of sailing, living, and fixing stuff on the boat” video so please check out a few other episodes and let us know what you think. Thanks again!

    Just found your channel. I also subscribe to several other sailors on you tube. I Lived aboard a 50 foot ferro Cement ketch with my dad when I was in high school for four years. He always planned to sail the world but never happened , but we sailed the great Lakes and had the boat for 35 years. I’ve Chartered out of the Bvi’s out of Tortola four times with Conch charters over an 18 year span. Twice with my dad before he passed and twice with my husband and friends. Unfortunately I don’t get to sail much in my life right now but love watching you guys and all the sailors on UA-cam. I’ve raced in the great lakes including the Port Huron to Mackinac once in 2000. We sail on our friends 38 foot hunter on Lake Huron on occasion. We also try to do a day sale on 140 foot tall ship and grand traverse Bay went we can get up there. Any little bit of sailing I can get in my life I will take it. Lol. Counting the months until our next charter. My husband loves sailing as well. Watching you guys really gives me incentive to get busy making our next sailing trip. Lol. 😊. We’ve always chartered bareboat with our friends but are thinking about having a captain and crew next time or chartering with private owners. Just the two of us or maybe with one other couple. My husband’s had two knees replaced and we can get around on the boat pretty good and be a decent crew , but not sure we could do what you guys are doing alone. Would love to buy a boat and put it into charter service and sail on it whenever we have the opportunity and maybe I should look into that at some Point. I’m 58 and my husbands 70.... he just retired and I am planning on retiring possibly in the next two years. Watching others do this really makes you see what’s possible. Take care and keep the wonderful videos coming.

    Nice job. Laundry room on a sailboat is unusual, but I think it was a great add. People often forget that when boats becomes your home, you truly need to consider some items like a laundry area.

    I just happen to find y'all in the wee hours of the morning as I was skimming through trying to find something to watch being I was unable to see. I saw your title "How we converted our Leopard...." So I added it to my watch list and I glad I did. I really like what y'all had done to your home.
    As a young kid my grandmother would tell me the stories of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn and I've always dreamed of building meself a Shanty boat and just live out on a lazy river. Well I'm pushing 70 hard and my Shanty Boat is still docked in my dreams and imagination I've had a many of adventures on it in my mind. I sure can tell you all about my awesome adventures that I've had like they happened in real life, but in the end their all just fictional stories but it's fun telling the stories like if they were nonfiction... LOL And now in my golden years I lay here thinking back of all the miles that I've travel crossed our great country on two wheels and camped beside a many of rivers. My tent is the closest I've gotten to a Shanty Boat but as I would lay there looking up at the stars on those HOT bug infested nights camped beside a river I'd tell my two best friends (me and myself) = BFFs about all the adventures I've had on my Shanty Boat floating down the river. Yea they loved to hear the stories night after night, Then morning came and we'd all pack up camp or I should say that I packed up camp those two me and myself would just stand there and watch as I packed everything on the bike and made ready to put another couple hundred on the my motorcycle, It was a tight fit the three of us on one bike I always made room for them I'd never leave those two behind. Just because they're my BFFs they may be lazy and annoying at time but God and them is all I got to talk to as the miles past by all day long... LOL...
    Well I've rambled on long enough for this time. So again thanks for a great video that I really enjoyed watching. Until next time you kids be blessed in Jesus name... BBE...

    Great job. Tip: you can add a Bluetooth GPS and your non-cellular iPad will connect to provide the GPS info to Navionics app. Question: can your Inreach provide weather data to PredictWind? Info: It’s not the cleanliness of the sea water flush that determines if it stinks - it’s the little marine creatures (e.g. plankton) that die in the hoses and decay from the anaerobic bacteria.

    • @SailingWindTherapy
      @SailingWindTherapy  3 роки тому

    Just watched your vid, great tour of your boat/home….. you had mentioned that your original iPad doesn’t have cell service so it doesn’t track you, might I recommend getting a “DualGPS receiver”. I use it for my iPad navigation (INavX). It’s a rechargeable wireless satellite receiver that connects to your iPad or iPhone via Bluetooth and makes it so you don’t need to use cell service on your device. Happy sailing, it’s great to see people out there living their dreams…….

    Love the thought/anticipation you've done to be prepared for any/all future events both known and unknown. (taking ownership proactively) .. .. .. Efficiency and Safety and Convenience and Creature Comforts. Electronics/Backup Electronics for safety. Your Pantry is one example of convenience. The Feathering props an example of efficiency. Laundry & Closet area for Creature Comforts/Daily Living - making the workload a bit lighter. I would be Highly surprised if several of your ideas were not Permanently Adopted by Catamaran Manufacturers. Good Job, you two! (Got distracted by a phone call or two and a couple of text messages -- missed what you may have presented for engine/power and sails.)

    • @SailingWindTherapy
      @SailingWindTherapy  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment! Our engines are standard Yanmar 45s. Sails are standard except for our Parasailor which is an amazing downwind headsail. We’ll show it more in our Bahamas episodes. And our 900 amp hours of lithium batteries and 1600 watts of solar gives us lots of energy for our needs. We even run our AC for 8 hours during the night off of the batteries. We didn’t talk about it in the video (or maybe we did) but we moved the starboard AC temperature sensor into our cabin and reduced the air flow in the vents except for our cabin. So it takes about 90 amps to keep us cool at night. (90 amps at 8 hours is 720 amp hours which we have covered)

      We love Nikki and Jason. We got to hang out with them a bit in Feb 2020 in Miami and they even came on board Wind Therapy for a walk through. They are as cool in real life as they are in their videos. I think Leopard is content to sell their boats as is and let others deal with the changes unless it’s something that is more critical. Probably not worth their time and effort to do all sorts of individual modifications. And that’s not a slam against Leopard. They have a great business model that works for them.

    edit: I'm a jarhead. I learned that the best way to maximize space in your seabag was to roll everything up. If you're careful, you can actually roll up dress uniforms in such a way to maximize space, but to do so without wrinkling your uniforms...just saying...

      Thanks Linda! We always told our kids to watch the “potty” talk but in this case we’ll make an exception 🙂. The boat came with salt water flush only. That’s fine in many places but not in many marinas. So we tapped into the Fresh water line, installed a back flow preventer valve, and added a toggle switch. We actually thought we could do this all on our own based on watching other UA-cam videos but while we were at Just Catamarans getting some other work done we asked them to do the first one for us while we watched. Then we intended to do the rest ourselves. But we then got lazy and just had them do all of them 😜 We are very happy with them.

    Incredible amount of thought went in to each upgrade, you guys must of had some time on the boat I assume to really figure all of this out. By the way, what year is that? We are after a Leopard 45 but didn't consider a charter boat until seeing this. Would you do a charter boat again if you had to do it all over again? I assume yes as it is a beautiful boat.

    • @SailingWindTherapy

      We had a list of things we were sure we needed (based on other Leopard 45 owners) such as Lithium batteries and solar. Plus we had a list of things we thought we might need but wanted to use the boat for a while to determine if so. Then there were things we never thought we would want such as water tank monitors which now we’re about to add next month after living on the boat full time. Maybe it never ends?🤔

    Great video. We are doing the same thing but we put the boat in the Moorings charter program a year ago with 4 to go. Made sense for us from a tax standpoint and being able to afford what we wanted. A few questions please. 1. What grill did you go with? 2. On the flooring what manufacturer did you choose and did Just Catamarans install it? After our first few weeks on the boat as owners our feet were torn up from the texture on the fiberglass so flooring will be a must. Any recommendations here appreciated? 3. Did you use ruggable carpets or what did you use? Did you put in the salon as well as the hull hallways? 4. Do you struggle with the back porch table being hard to slide around? We’re thinking of replacing with a teak table where the front and back flip over to allow you to slide down either side. Thoughts? 5. Did you think about refrigeration in the bench where the windlass breaker is located? Would that be possible? Thanks for any help. We hope to meet you guys in person once we can retire to Nomada Caribena full time. Love the videos.

    • @SailingWindTherapy
      @SailingWindTherapy  2 роки тому

      Ours was a Moorings boat as well that we purchased new and place into charter. But we pulled it out early after six months since we got lucky with work and were able to retire.
      1. The grill is Force10 which came with the boat. It’s an awesome grill and we love it. Only issue is that I can’t find an attachment to put on the front to hold stuff.
      2. The flooring came with the boat from the factory (since we had a Crewed Yacht). The newer ones come with a lighter faux teak decking which is much cooler on the feet. Ours gets extremely hot in the sun. Check the Facebook Leopard Owners group forum for different brands.
      3. We bought some indoor/outdoor rugs from Amazon. There are a ton of cheap options. The hardest part is finding the right sizes. I wouldn’t buy anything expensive for this since I can see it getting beaten up due to salt water and sand.
      4. We don’t like the aft cockpit table either and yes it’s hard to maneuver around. There are a couple of different options for teak folding tables however they are pretty expensive and takes a long time to get made and delivered. We just haven’t gotten around to doing this yet but it’s in our list.
      5. A Fridge where I think you are talking about doesn’t make much sense to me. We’ve got our standard vitrifrigo (which totally sucks), the aft cockpit vitrifrigo fridge (which is great), and an awesome domestic fridge/freezer below (which is really, really great). There are a number of options for adding the extra fridge though it’s always a trade off on space. Some people keep a domestic outside (under the table or aft by the lifelines). Some have removed their nav station and placed one there. There are lots of options you can find on the fb Leopard 45 owners group too.
      Good luck with the boat! Where are you keeping her? We spent 5 years going to the BVI and it’s like a second home to us.

      Hi Kerry, we’re really not sure actually. The solar arch is probably the heaviest thing and that’s not too bad. 100 feet of extra chain too but we’d trade extra weight for that safety feature in a heartbeat. What we do know is that she still rides pretty high in the water. People have actually told us that. What we also know is that we’re not going to win any races against an FP or HH or Gunboat. Actually one of our friends on a new HH50 performance cat was complaining to us that he didn’t catch any fish in the Bahamas this year while we caught some good ones. It’s because he was sailing too fast!
