I love the angle you both approach everything and how honest and straightforward you are. Definitely a sub and looking forward to following your journey! Best of luck to you all.
Great video you both - the CPA in me loved the pragmatic breakdown of your out-of-pocket costs plus the time it took to get things right. We’ve been looking at brokers in Florida recently including some affiliated with charters. Your comments gave us a valuable new perspective and probably saved us a few $’s too. Many thanks ❤
Glad you enjoyed it and found it so helpful. We are trying to put out the type of content we wish we had found before we started all this! I (Shannon) am a little type A so it’s who I am. Thanks for your comment and welcome aboard!
I found out about your channel from a friend named Elmer who I think is going to do work on your boat. He is great. Honest, funny and very knowledgeable. If he can’t fix it he knows someone who can. So I have been catching up on your channel and love the content. My younger brother and his then girlfriend (now wife and a nurse practitioner in St Augustine too) bought a boat in the Bahamas and sailed it back to Jax. Her first time on a sailboat. I have a few more years before I get a boat and follow in your wake, so really enjoying the content.
Thank you so much! Elmer is great!! Highly recommend him! That’s great to hear about your brother and wife. The medical profession is going through a change and many are leaving earlier than I ever expected. Hopefully, our 4 year journey can soften my heart to return to pediatrics or God will open another door. Best of luck on your dream!! Thanks for reaching out!!
@@SailingParadiseFalls looking forward to following your journey. My brother and his wife ended up finding a place on the St John’s in Palatka, so great access, especially when the new Green Cove Springs bridge is done. You are both courageous people whom I am sure will have the time of your life.
Hi, hopefully you don't mind, I'm sharing this video to one of the catamaran groups I belong to o FB. Thank you so much for making part of your goal to educate others. And thankfully you DONT have to go through this process again. We get our 45 in October-see you around ❤
Feel free to share away. If it helps even one person, we feel it is worth it. I think had we really known the process and HOW to proceed when dealing with the Moorings, It would have been a whole different story. We LOVE our boat, even with all we have had to go though...What doesn't kill us makes us stronger right!?! You are going to be enamored and challenged when you get your boat. There will be ups and many downs, but it is all worth it. Thanks for following our journey!
Thank you very much! We have planned to make a follow up video to this one as well as a cost of upgrading a charter boat in the next few weeks. Thanks for watching!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey so far. It’s easy to see how frustrating it can be. We are in the early steps and planning a transition ourselves and it’s been very helpful. Smooth sailing ahead for you guys from here I hope. Thank you
🎉 new subscriber fr 🇨🇦 I just learned something the other day from another captain, before 1 plans of voyage outside of ones home country there's documentation required to show you left on good terms.. can't remember what it's called though?😮 So great that people communicate the upsides and the true downsides.. keep up the great filming and editing🎉
I was in contract to buy a Leopard 48 from Moorings last year but pulled out. I think apart from the hassle of dealing with the phase out period, the hassle of upgrading for full time cruising was too much to take on. Ended up paying a lot more for a 3 year old boat that was ready to live on but really happy with it.
I now realize the benefit of paying more for a “sail away” ready boat. It’s all been trying for sure but crystal clear beaches are on the horizon! Glad you got your boat!
Very Informative video, thanks so much. I had the experience of closing on a Moorings monohull in BVI last spring and long story short, bailed out because of all troubles encountered. Moorings did return my earnest money so no problem there but spent a bit on travels, survey that isn't recouped. I am still looking for a boat but am afraid to delve into the Moorings Brokerage again.
I think if you are up for challenges and possess good project management skills you can get through. We were just not aware of all the hassle and hoops we would have to endure. A 2nd full survey the week of closing is essential to make sure everything that you surveyed previously is still intact, Depends on the price of the boat if we would do it again. We definitely could not have purchased a private L45 for what we got our for. Thank you for your comment and best of luck I. Your boat shopping!
@@SailingParadiseFalls Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the survey revealed moisture in the deck core along with delamination in the hull. It was more than I wanted to get into and the Moorings wouldn't negotiate enough from my point of view. It was surprising because it wasn't an old boat by any means. I get what you mean about making sure everything is intact, after going around the dry dock on Virgin Gorda I was surprised at how much they scavanged the boats for pieces and parts. My experience made me concerned to try and work with the Moorings again. The distance to the boat is a real factor too as you mentioned. Cost me a lot in travel expenses to get down there to view the boat and be present for survey.
Thank you! It's not all doom and gloom. You just have to know what to expect. Our hope is that others can benefit from the info we provide when it comes to making a decision about buying an ex-charter. Hopefully you have a top notch broker! Thanks for following our journey!
Great video guys, my L45 is still in charter, it comes out of the Moorings in Oct next year, it’s really helpful to hear your opinion on the phase out. Happy sailing!
Thanks guys ... really good info..allow 10% on top of the price for thing fix sort or replace things befor you set off... good luck may up have the wind at your back for most of you sailing...

Could you post in the description a copy of or link to the spreadsheet you described? Thinking of getting my first boat and I feel that would be immensely helpful.
I have no listed the link in the description. The spreadsheet is pretty specific to the Leopard 45 but you would be able to see my train of thought to adapt it to any boat you are surveying. Best of luck in your boat search!
Oh my goodness, wow! I had no clue what y'all had to deal with buying a boat. Great video....I wanted to cry with you. Holy moly , I'm trying to get rid of "stuff" and geez.....y'all really motivated me. Okay, going back to feed my cows and......dream. Lol 😂
Downsize in parts. Before we sold our home I downsized multiple times. Since being in the boat, I’ve gone through things at least two more time and gotten rid of stuff that I haven’t touched or thought about in 6 months. It’s just “stuff”. Learning to live more simply has honestly been freeing! Best of luck to you guys!
Awesome, honest opinion video. Thanks for sharing ! Look forward to watching your progress. The insurance cost I think is a big determining factor for many of us. Plus, "many" say you need 10% of the boat value YEARLY for upkeep/maint. I'm not sure one needs say, $50,000 per year for a 40-45' catamaran.
Yes, we agree on that. If I’m sinking $100,000 upfront for a refit we certainly do not plan to sink $60,000 in yearly. Upkeep costs are budgeted but nowhere near that. May bite us in the butt so you can to see that ;) Insurance is crazy expensive both in housing and boats right now. Big part of our monthly budget! Thanks for your comment!
We want to help others who have dreams of a similar journey. I’m glad it was helpful. Now that we’ve owned the boat a year I think we are gonna make a follow up video when are emotions aren’t quite so raw. 😊
awesome info!! thanks again for sharing your experience, we've loved watching it! Obviously everyone takes their own journey and you guys are well into yours (very brave!!), but one thing you might want to consider looking into is the blue water cruising fundamentals course that is put on by Keith Whittaker (Sailing Zatara) and Chris Biasutti. I think it would be helpful even for you guys even though you're already on your way. We recently paid for this class and are currently working through the planning stages, and I feel like it's already been invaluable to help put together a sound plan. It will very easily pay for itself with helping avoid some pitfalls (one of them was don't buy a charter boat for blue water cruising, but there are many, many others that are for after buying the boat!) Regardless, we're rooting for you and love the videos, keep it up, and don't stress on the videos, go at your own pace!
Thank you for all the information... My wife and I are looking at buying a Mooring Leopard 45 in 5-7 yrs, preferably a 2021 (or newer model) any additional insight you guys have to offer would be greatly appreciated. That being said I look forward to following you as you start your journey.
You guys done more than I would have. I would have let them kept it after y’all lost trust in them. I don’t beg and pay for things. I can’t wait to see some of your future journeys !
Leopard still makes a great boat especially compared to the other production builders. Every boat is gonna have issues but a lot of our repairs were due to lack of proper routine maintenance by the Moorings. We are still fans of the Leopard product. Thanks for your comment!
Great video! I don't trust Moorings and would never buy a boat from them. Several years ago I wanted to cruise Belize. My boat was in the sea of Cortez. So I chartered with Moorings. Simply put the boat was unsafe and not maintained. I terminated the charter early for safety reasons. They never refunded the balance of the money basically saying "sue us".
Thanks for sharing! That really stinks! Just understand you are basically buying a shell and expect to replace most things. Not much of a savings and honestly more of a hassle than buying a private boat. Thanks for watching!
I like that "Timing is of the essence" if the eeal stinks from the start.. its only going to get WORSE as time passes.. If a charter companies can act like they're doing you a HUGE favor.. & drag their feet, exaggerating & lying bc they honestly believe people are greedy just like them.. probably its a sign that you caution them once maybe twice.. then sink the deal..!
The Moorings and other charter companies from what we have heard have some shady dealings. In the end, after a lot of years and stress we did get our boat and after almost a year still absolutely love her. The 5 years in charter allowed us to see her weaknesses and repair those. Thanks for your comment!
Sheesh, I was looking at a Moorings monohull in the BVI, but that’s a crazy amount of hoops and money (not to mention the shenanigans) before the actual sale.
Yes it is. We just wanted more people to know the behind the scenes part of purchasing from the Moorings. It’s doable, but you need to be prepared and have patience. Best of luck!
Thank you for your review. I wonder if Moorings has ever offered to buy/delete a negative review. I spoke with moorings in Belize, which I was unimpressed and, at their convienence .
We keep trying to film a 1yr update video but either wind or schedule doesn’t cooperate. Will again soon. After 1yr, we still love our boat and I’ve filed away the stress of the purchase. She actually seems to have less problems than people out here w brand new boats.
Thank you for your comment! Please visit our website at SaiingParadiseFalls.com and look under videos and the excel spreadsheet link is under that video. Best of luck in buying your new boat!
Well, we are going to a second part now that it’s been year. Knowing what we know as long as you’re mentally prepared it can be okay. We still love our boat! Thanks for watching!
G’day from Australia ☀️ great content.. straight to the point and practical. Is there a way to get access to the spreadsheet mentioned in the video? Cheers👍

I have to say this because I keep hearing this myth about insurance and want to leave a clue. The getting signed off by a captain thing is fiction and can be avoided but I'm referring to a boat that is solely for private use. Getting many offers of insurance at a good price is mostly about providing the right answers in the initial interviews and having the right attitude. I love the honesty in the video though.
We feel more people should know how buying the the Moorings is difficult. I wish we would have had some of that info going into the deal! Thanks for watching!
Wow, I would think that having a boat would be easy to enjoy these lakes or oceans just to travel or simply hang out or relax. I’ve never owned a boat but my brother and friends of ours never had conversations regar severe extra fees and taxes. So living on this earth………. Where is the freedom of not having to pay additional fees…… for just relaxing and enjoying sea life? Everything has its pros and cons but…….. 🙏🏻💪🏻🙏🏻👍🏻🙏🏻 P.S. Who in this world owns the ocean or lakes? 😎😎😎
We knew this was not going to be easy! Hopefully, after getting everything set up for cruising we will be able to enjoy a lot less stress days! Thanks for watching!
Change those alloy cleats to the new stainless steel ones they use. If you have to use one in a storm or emergency they are dangerous imo, I've seen the tips break off. They phased them out and changed to Roca cleats.
I think your videos are very good. The only thing is the sound, it goes into a pitch or something, that the sound gets screeeeeechy in my ears. Otherwise, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to live on YT. Very good job! I mean, I unsubscribe to channels that dont care about the sound (even though we all are commenting on it) bc the experience is annoying. There are little mics you can purchese, or invest in some dead cats-fluff. And dont scream. The best voices are those that rumble a bit, like Alan Rickman. Soft, crisp and low. I used to work at our national number information and I learned a trick or two there. Low voices get a lot more positive feedback. Good luck, people! Your kids are adorable, you are positive, so just DO IT and have fun! /Catta from Sweden
Thanks so much! Our “good” mic took a swim right before filming. Yes, we should have backup but we didn’t. I got another mic for the Nikon camera and using a yeti x for voiceovers. Since this video I learned about the normalization button. I’m working g hard to get the sound right but it’s been a steep learning curve. Thanks for hanging in there!
@@SailingParadiseFalls - Oh, tell me about it! I had to watch some YT-tutorials before I even could grasp the concept of sound managing. And since I am sensitive (tinnitus) it really should be perfect from me. It's not yet, but Im getting there! Have a nice weekend! /Catta
so if you had for instance an ICC would that cover you for the insurance? I would think your money would be better spent getting a skippers license rather then just hiring a skipper
Actually, the insurance carrier would not insure just any captain on our boat. The captain had to submit his resume to the company with approximately how many hours that he captained a similar type and sized vessel and all of his credentials. They had to review his experience prior to adding him to our policy. What companies want to see is that you have someone that KNOWS the boat you are buying and how it operates. If we had gone on multiple charters where we bareboated a 45 foot catamaran and had documented hours of sailing it, we would not have needed to get signed off. We have owned multiple sailboats prior to this one, just not one as large. So they wanted proof from a skipper that we could handle the boat and not destroy it and other property (boats, docks, bridges, etc) because it was beyond our capability. Good thing we passed with flying colors and we have been able to dock multiple places and not hit anything!
I uploaded the spreadsheet to our website SailingParadiseFalls.com. CLick blogs and videos and scroll down to Episode 15 and the button for the link is at the buttom. I hope you find it useful. Only thing is I believe this one left off to check the forward cockpit door for the rubber by the handles. sailingparadisefalls.com/blogs-%26-videos-1
L45 is definitely a boat I am considering along with the L44. You said you absolutely wanted the 45 over the 44. Is that due to size (actual difference is about 2 feet), age or something else?
We both preferred the layout of the 45 much better. The 45 seems much more spacious for the saloon. We also preferred the forward facing dining table to sit at during night watched. You really need to jump on both and see which you prefer. We had always thought we would get a L44 but I am very glad we waited and got the 45. Thanks for watching and your comment!
It's on my list to do! My plan is to upload a pdf to our website for download - www.SailingParadiseFalls.com. I'm sewing cockpit cushions today so maybe I will get a chance to add that in the next few days :)

I hope it helps! The only thing not on that one is the forward facing door. Make sure to check all the rubber especially the 3 rubber parts where the door latches. Let us know if we can help with anything further. Best of luck! Which base are you phasing out?
@@SailingParadiseFalls Yes. They said that’s the whole purpose. The phase out area is separate from the charter area with different staff. They are trying to not have the same and as many issues. I think their intentions are good. It will just come down to execution. I have my fingers crossed! 🤪

Join boat groups for the model and manufacturer that you are purchasing or consider purchasing. I belong to Leopardowners, Leopard45!, catamaran sailing, etc. Thise groups can be helpful. Even location where you are purchasing such as BVIcharterchat.
Ask in Facebook groups, forums, etc. There are about two total that we have heard great things about. Just very helpful to know if you choose to purchase bc the broker can make your transaction SO much better! Thanks for watching!
Oh no! Honestly, had we charted one of these boat before, I am not quite sure that we would have purchased one. Ignorance is bliss and we have jumped in so we are making the best of our purchase. So far, despite her flaws, we love her and can't wait to start our travels!
Typical insurance is 1-3% the insured value. We could have reduced it to be partially self insured, but it's piece of mind. If something happens, we are covered. We have had friends boats burn, lost masts etc. But yes it is cost prohibited for some. We didn't plan on that much so we have had to adjust our budget.
Awww, we needed to hear that today! Starboard AC completely broke yest. so we are feeling a little defeated today with all the unplanned expenses on top of the life adjustments. It will get better though! Thanks for your encouragement!
Listening to this doesn't give me confidence to buy a Leopard PC from Moorings. REMOVING parts from your build? That's BS. Sounds like a really shady company... think I'll steer away from this one.
It was frustrating but in the end, they did make it right. If we could do it all over, I would have been on island a month before we took possession so I could continuously go through the boat and ensure that everything is where it is supposed to be. We love our boat and buying an ex charter enabled us to get into the exact boat we were dreaming about
You didn't expect a new boat did you , even they have problems, it sails it has problems, yours have only just Started. Enjoy the views make up for it.
We didn’t expect a new boat and totally agree that even new boats have issues (but at least they are still under warranty). We have owned boats before and expected issues. Can’t wait for the Crystal blue waters of the Bahamas! Thanks for your comment!
We’ve bought well equipped boats three times now. We always looked for a boat with a careful owner that had been appropriately upgraded. After seeing many such situations plus talking with people on our travels, we feel the charter boats and even the badly damaged boats in need of major work are never bargains. Our current boat is a Jeanneau 45DS that came with new electronics, new sails, new water maker etc. if you’ve ever watched Expedition Evans, they bought a wrecked Beneteau 49 and spent a year bringing it back. Even after that, they had original sails and basic equipment. We saw the boat last year in Ft Lauderdale and she looked tired and worn out. But, they spent more than us in total after the years long project. My advice is to take your time and find a well cared for and upgraded boat.
I think we agree on that now! Charter boats seem like bargains but in the end we probably could have bought one already outfitted. Thank you for taking the time to comment!
This was a great video. Its very real life, not glossing over reality or idealizing the experience. Maybe you and the other new sailing channels can be the second generation sailing channels. Inspired by 1st gen, but more reality based, not necessarily selling it as the ultimate lifestyle for everyone. Wishing you the best over the next couple of months. Looking forward to more videos.
Thank you SO much for your comment. We are pretty down to earth, realists so we hope to show real life. It’s definitely not a walk in the park. The frustration of outfitting this boat so far has been some of our toughest days. Looking forward to those crystal clear waters! Thanks for your encouragement!
Welcome to the 45 family, you will find a lot of support. Great video, we bought a new 45, and you would be surprised all of the issues with new boats. I just received an email from moorings listing 100 boats for sale,
Thank you and Yes, there are much more options now than last year when we were looking. It seems that our timeline for purchase fell into the past covid rush to purchase a catamaran. It was slim pickings when it came to 45's coming out of charter. But she's ours and we are busy with upgrades...and repairs :) Thanks for following our journey, maybe we will see you out there!
Yes, doing anything during Covid was extra difficult. We sold our home, bought a new one and spent $200k remodeling. Everything was much, much more difficult and expensive than our other homes. Sigh, first world problems…
Purchased 2 charters from them. Everyone just needs to realize you are buying the hull and plan on replacing everything. This is one of the reasons you’re buying at that price. But in the end you get to put what you want on it and at the same time learn everything about the boat when you’re replacing items. Side note there is a big difference in rigging the boat for island and offshore sailing. My advise is download the newport to bermuda race requirements and you will be amazed and learn so much about what your need for offshore passage
Wow - thanks for the advice. We agree about plan on replacing everything else. The bonus of buying from the Mooring was yes, we can put in what we want where we want it. Big difference in just outfitting a boat to go to the Bahamas for a season then blue water cruising for 3 years. We appreciate your comment & thanks for watching!
@@SailingParadiseFalls Also look at Parley Revival's last couple of videos on what they had to do for their rigging for their Pacific crossing and they brought in a rigging expert too. Insightful video, thanks
@@pbear6251 I was just thinking that! Rigging is usually an oversight just a cursory inspection and that's it! All the details that ho into rigging blew my mind! Theirs is an excellent episode on rigging.
Would you consider purchasing a new boat from Moorings and getting the guaranteed income and 12 weeks of charter use for 4-5 years instead of buying used?
I don’t think so. We ran that by our financial planner 5yrs ago and where we had our money was a better option for us. In the end, whether you buy it new and put it into charter, you still get a 5yr old charter boat that’s been minimally maintained. If we did it again, I think we would search harder or wait longer for a privately owned vessel. Thanks for your comment!
Very interesting and informative. I have been chartering with Sunsail and Moorings in the BVI every year for the past 10 years. In doing so, I have seen how they maintain the boats to get them ready for the next charter. You are spot on. They get them so that they are good enough for the next charter. Seeing how hard people are on the boats, I wouldn't want to purchase one. You do get a good deal, but with the cost of new parts and repairs, is it worth it? Meeeah. Who knows. Best of luck to you as you get her ready for your journey.
So, sadly due to the horrendous way the company is ran the brokers don’t stay long. Ours was fired and I never would recommend her to anyone! Bill Reagan was with them but I heard he left. Keep asking in groups and you have to specifically ask for that broker with your first contact or you will get who you get. Best of luck!

@@SailingParadiseFalls ..... you'll be laughing soon when you set sail in the fall and look back on all the shenanigans to get you to that point in time ..... thx for the reply .. make it one of those Hell Ya! weeks ....
Thank you for posting this video and documenting your experience! I really appreciate how you associated your pros and cons with why they mattered to you. We just took delivery of a new FP 45 this Spring. It's been an adventure for sure. Even though I think I've had exceptional service and support, A new boat is not a relaxing or turn-key experience either. You may be dealing with fall-out from questionable maintenance or architecting a battery bank. A new boat has all sorts of integration issues between the factory, post factory and dealer installed systems. Even in a location like Annapolis, parts can be difficult to get and waiting for skilled labor to become available are still obstacles. One thing that I think is a misconception. 4 cabin boats cost $9k more than 3 cabin owners versions. By the time you add $ for the extra head etc. We did all of our own Chandlery and that adds up. I'm starting to wonder if the best boat to buy is a 3 year-old privately owned 4 cabin boat. Shaken out but not worn out. Still has a warranty on the Hull. Maybe no one sells theirs at 3 years. Cheers
Hi - great question. Boat is registered in Florida. We paid FL tax and import fees to the US government since we knew she was going to be staying in Florida before and after our circumnavigation.
Shannon, you all are doing a great job and getting things done. I see that you are now in Southern Florida and have started your journey. As you settle into your new routines then they change ( at least that is how it is with me). But I have some things I try to have as non- negotiable, but saying that I may not always get them done on that day or a specific time. It is sort of a general list. By the end of the week if I have accomplished most of these, I feel pretty good. ( things like getting my Bible read, prayer time, exercise, meal plan, reading time just for me, connecting with my friends). You know what you need to do to make you feel like you had a successful week. Thanks for the videos.
I am not great with change but learning to adjust. I like your idea of non-negotiables. I’m learning not be as hard on myself. Hopefully, after this weather passes this week we will cross over to the Bahamas. Thank you for imparting your wisdom and taking the time to share! It’s a journey!

Only 10 minutes in and I know to avoid the moorings like the plague. You seem like a delightful couple. Thx for the information and I wish you safe travels. Blessings on your journey.
Not really, Moorings if you didn’t notice they refurbish the boat before they give it to you. Which no broker or private seller does. In addition, the savings are incredible. 50-100k easy
@@trentspencer7991 - I think that you misconstrued my answer. You can definitely save 50-100k by buying it with Moorings rather than Yachtworld. Do the math is a no brainer.
$15k for insurance with a limited georgraphic zone. Can you give a general idea of the purchase price of the boat? Also, do you know if there is an advantage to buying the boat outside of the U.S.?
Over 500k. Insurance is getting very narrow and pricey. We wanted to keep the boat in FL for hurricane Season so that was factored into our policy and our rate. We'll actually have an update on that in a coming episode.

Love the frank and informative nature of this video. Following with interest.
Thank you
Thank you so much! I am so glad you are finding it helpful! Excited your following along!

I just learned something the other day from another captain, before 1 plans of voyage outside of ones home country there's documentation required to show you left on good terms.. can't remember what it's called though?😮 So great that people communicate the upsides and the true downsides.. keep up the great filming and editing🎉
Thank you so much for the positive comment and words of wisdom. Will will look into your suggestion!
Thanks for the information. You gave me a lot to think about!
Glad it was helpful!
Yikes! I think you made a very good decision. It’s definitely a gamble and not one that I might do again. A lot also depends on the base.
Nice episode. Thanks for your clear outlay of your experience. We are just talking now with Moorings for a boat. This helps a lot.
Go print out the spreadsheet from our website to help with your survey! Best of luck!

Thank you for the information. It was honest and very helpful. Safe sailing
Thank you for the great advice and encouragement! We actually did do the very first version of the course . Agree, lots of helpful info!
@@SailingParadiseFalls oh, cool! Are you in the discord?

Thank you for all the information... My wife and I are looking at buying a Mooring Leopard 45 in 5-7 yrs, preferably a 2021 (or newer model) any additional insight you guys have to offer would be greatly appreciated. That being said I look forward to following you as you start your journey.

You guys done more than I would have. I would have let them kept it after y’all lost trust in them. I don’t beg and pay for things. I can’t wait to see some of your future journeys !
Thanks so much!
I wonder how much of these problems were because the boat was a Leopard. They haven't gotten very good reviews lately.
Great video. We are 12-18 months behind you.
Thank you! So close! Hopefully, we will see you out there!
Great information that was presented well. 👍🏻
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the VERY informative video. I am super appreciative of your genuine critique. Where can I get your spreadsheets?

sounds awful! appreciate this, will be buying in the 12-18 months, wasn't really considering ex-charter boats, and this just solidified that.
Well, we are going to a second part now that it’s been year. Knowing what we know as long as you’re mentally prepared it can be okay. We still love our boat! Thanks for watching!

We would certainly love to pic your brain then about how to lower this cost!
Look forward to future adventures!
Thanks SO much!
Thanks for passing your mixed experiences on to us 😅
We feel more people should know how buying the the Moorings is difficult.
Wow! Good information! I will certainly look into that! Thank you for passing on your wisdom!
Could you share the spreadsheet?

What is the insured value of your boat for the $15k premium?
$620,000 I believe
/Catta
Great information. Going this route is on my options list for the future if I can’t reach my end goal.
Donate for a Dream
At least you’ll go into the process a little more informed. Best of luck with your goals!
The moral of the story for me is 'Find a good broker first before anything else' because there is still the refit and up grades to be done.
Absolutely! We believe a good broker could have helped this deal go SO much smoother! Thanks for your comment!
Thanks I’ll pass on a charter vessel. I like Bering yachts. Steel and sea worthy
Nice choice!
So interesting!
Glad it was! We need to do a 1 year follow up. Despite the hassle we still love our boat!
so if you had for instance an ICC would that cover you for the insurance?
AWESOME video - thank you ❤
You are so welcome! Thank you for the positive feedback!
Interesting video - can you share the spreadsheat?
I uploaded the spreadsheet to our website SailingParadiseFalls.com. CLick blogs and videos and scroll down to Episode 15 and the button for the link is at the buttom. I hope you find it useful.
Hi, thx for that Video! Is there a chance to get that Spreadsheet? Fair winds!

I hope it helps! The only thing not on that one is the forward facing door. Make sure to check all the rubber especially the 3 rubber parts where the door latches. Let us know if we can help with anything further. Best of luck! Which base are you phasing out?
@@SailingParadiseFalls Thank you again! I will check the front door. St Lucia.
Hopefully, St. Lucia has their act a little better than Tortola! It’s smaller so less turnaround maybe? Don’t get overwhelmed!
@@SailingParadiseFalls Yes. They said that’s the whole purpose. The phase out area is separate from the charter area with different staff. They are trying to not have the same and as many issues. I think their intentions are good. It will just come down to execution. I have my fingers crossed! 🤪

Ask in Facebook groups, forums, etc. There are about two total that we have heard great things about. Just very helpful to know if you choose to purchase bc the broker can make your transaction SO much better! Thanks for watching!
rigging should only be replaces eye to eye not a singular part
That’s what they did when they replaced ours. Thanks for the info😊
We chartered a boat from Moorings at it was a unsafe nightmare
Oh no! Honestly, had we charted one of these boat before, I am not quite sure that we would have purchased one. Ignorance is bliss and we have jumped in so we are making the best of our purchase. So far, despite her flaws, we love her and can't wait to start our travels!
Welcome aboard new watcher. .
Welcome!
15 grand a year for insurance? Thats pretty unaffordable when you count the price of the boat.
Don't worry about videos for now....take care of life
Awww, we needed to hear that today!
We love our boat and buying an ex charter enabled us to get into the exact boat we were dreaming about
Buying a boat is stressful! Seems like everybody trying to burn you!
Yep, kinda seems that way but we’ve found some good and honest people along the way too! Thanks for watching!

So do you have that spreadsheet available for others to download ?

Glad to help clarify a few mysteries! Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much for you insight!

15K Insurance? WOW……Crazy
Yep!
Cheers
Purchasing and outfitting a boat to your liking is hardwork! Congrats on your new purchase!!!
Hi - only just caught up with this video. - can I ask the purchase price of the boat please? Good luck with everything!
$600,000
Hi Guys...Did I miss the part about registration and taxes? May I ask where you registered your boat and what your tax liability was? Thank you.
Thanks guys very good information that unfortunately you have learnt the hard way, but hey beneficial to all that tune into your wonderful channel. Now the serous stuff!! Where are we going to now guys? Absolutely love you two and look forward to your episodes, take care and hopefully we will see you here Down Under 🇦🇺take care and be safe - God Bless America
Aww, thank you for the encouragement!! Hopefully, will be done with upgrades and heading to the Bahamas in next 8-10wks!!! Pray the solar:lithium install goes well!!
Only 10 minutes in and I know to avoid the moorings like the plague. You seem like a delightful couple. Thx for the information and I wish you safe travels. Blessings on your journey.
Our pleasure! Thank you for the kind words! Hoping to help our fellow boating community!
Not really, Moorings if you didn’t notice they refurbish the boat before they give it to you. Which no broker or private seller does.
In addition, the savings are incredible. 50-100k easy
@@MrCubansurfer That's amusing, you cant get 50 to 100K off a new Leopard 45 just by negotiating.
Thanks for your helpful video!! 😀 I’m in the process right now. Is there any chance you could post the spreadsheets and lists? I haven’t been through all the comments but didn’t see anything posted?
Your very welcome! Here’s the spreadsheet. sailingparadisefalls.com/download-page
I really appreciate your video we are in the process of selling our home in Canada and will need to go to the next step in looking for a catamaran and learning so much of this 🙏🙏❤ Thank you from Chris and Joanne ps may keep you as a contact for future reference 👍
Absolutely! Glad it was helpful! Best of luck in your search!
Good advice! Best wishes to you for the cruising life. One request: that spreadsheet you were given: can you post a link to the file?
Check out our website at Sailingparadisefalls.com under blogs and video. Scroll to episode 15 and click the button underneath. Only thing missing I believe is the forward facing door seal to check - make sure all 3 closures have plenty of rubber. Thanks for watching!
