- Опубліковано 8 лип 2024
- Several decades ago, food themes started showing up in the graphics and names of guitar pedals. In this week's episode, we're going to dive into what it means with the assistance of my good friend Ben Wood, the executive chef at City Barrel Brewery + Kitchen in Kansas City.
If you're in Kansas City be sure to check out City Barrel Brewery & Kitchen.

the cheff playing drums was the cherry on top
I was NOT expecting that to happen lol
..oooh... see what he did there: the CHERRY on top! AAHHH
(come to my country: we love you)
These guys are really cookin'
@@watcherofthemundane 😂😂😂😂
He is a solid player, that's for sure.
The JHS Show, a show ran by a pedal company and it's president, promotes all competing companies 10 times more than his own company, now promotes his friends businesses. Josh and the rest of the jhs crew, I love you guys please never change.
This is why I'm happy to buy JHS pedals. It's because of all the love they show for others in the same market.
I was not expecting the chef to play drums lol
The best thing in the video haha
Neither was I. It was quite the pleasant surprise
He was really cooking ;) Sure someone already made the joke.
@@ultratone *clap*
*Clap*
*Clap*
And if that's the guy's own personal kit, he's got great taste in drums!!
"The big muff (pause) pi"
"I don't know if we are prepared to dive into at this point.".
Yeah Nick, we saw what you did there. ;)
ya'll be sure to clean your plate
I love mine "double", extra spicy then turned over...
Yepper! I always enjoy the Double Muff! With all the settings...it really Pounds!!! 🤘👽🎸
I was pretty sure I wasn't the only one to catch that.
He's a chef AND a drummer? My band needs him.
Extend an offer... HA!
@@benjaminwood4419 come move to southeast MO so we can start a motown meets death metal band. We're only about 5 hours away, so it's not like you'd have to upend your entire life haha
Chef killed it! I was not expecting that at all!
“possibly my only friend in the entire world” as nick starts internally crying
Hes paid to be there
@@ProSimex84 bravo
When the chef started jamming on drums, hell ya!
This place is genuinely delicious. Josh took me here for a great meal when I visited for the episode. I hope people in KC continue to support this restaurant during the pandemic - and I hope people support your local restaurants during this tough time
"You can want anything." Deepest line of the whole video.
then followed it up with "you cant just cook half an animal". That guy is a hoot
This is the most idiotic and, at the same time, greatest episode by far.
-The concept was nonsense, yet super fun
-Full of surprises. Unexpected cheff/drummer
-Jokes overall, killer! "He has the box" cracked me up!
-Songs were killer! Nick on bass rocked it
-Information wise, not sure if I learned anything but I dont care
Josh, here´s an idea: imagine having pedal makers choose a handful of their favorite pedals from your collection and talk about them or play them. Like the criterions collection closet picks. Would be a nice segment in an interview.
concordo
So many guys I'd love to hear talk about this. Grant from Big Ear and Matt from 1981 Inventions, in particular.
I could listen to Jamie Stillman talk about the DOD 250 all day. Mike Fuller shouldn't speak though.
@@Artefracture If Mike Fuller could never speak again, that'd be ideal.
Yessss!
This is my favorite combination of things: a ridiculously silly idea with a great deal of thought, preparation, and a high level of execution.
I can’t believe Josh didn’t bust out a “Meatball!”
Wonder if he has the DOD Meatbox box?
Very nice cymbal-driven riff back there
Why didn’t you guys try the JHS Moonshine 🤔
Moonshine is clearly a food group!
Here here!
@@BrianSGuitars you can’t chew on liquor. Trust me I’m drinking kraken spiced rum and I cannot bite this liquid into smaller pieces
What about Whity-Tighty? Not sure about the taste, but probably smells like blue cheese.
They did.. but they forgot to record..
I laughed way too hard when 'he had the box' of Hawaiian pizza.
Poutine...
It's called poutine.
*sheds a single maple syrup tear*
I'm so glad someone is still focused on what's important during this mess of a year.
So many quoteables from Ben:
"You can want anything."
"...No."
I'm hungry and this is about food themed pedals.
I want the tight dish. lost of it with fries.
Hard same.
This why I love JHS
CORREC!
This episode makes me want to go out and open a restaurant, where people can come jam and eat.
Well, I hope they will wash their hands after all the eating
@@genri.a9128 Oh I would hope so I've definitely got grease on my guitar eat and playing sitting down.
I'll be there. When you make French Onion Soup, use red wine and sugar.
Oh. My. God. I will cross oceans and climb mountains to eat at this restaurant. Please do
Start out with a food truck and a little mobile stage.
conceptually this is one of the most entertaining videos i have ever seen, and it is pleasant for the algorithm.
These guys definitely never dipped their french fries into their Mcflurry.
Nick "You garbage person..." may be the best shade ever thrown.
This was just wonderful. The part when you played the 'he has the box' jingle for the pizza box made my day. Love this concept, you should make a series of fantastically strange pedal themed adventures, just good vibes all around!
[discussing the Big Muff] Is this food?
Nick: "We're not prepared to dive into that."
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE.
The jams on this video are the best I've heard on the channel. Nothing quite like a proper rhythm section to focus guitar riffing into actual music, as opposed to the noodly borderline aimlessness of guitar shop riffs. Sounding nice, guys.
"Where it can take us as a civilisation"... Man, you deserve every single penny you earn.
The orange squezer is not a food, it is a tool. A rat is totaly food.
came here for the bad jokes, and was not disappointed.
I really want a beer now.
This video shows what happens when the chef misunderstands your order for a side of beets...
I need to hear a jingle about factory stickers that are still on pedals
Josh and nick are so hilarious and quirky, I bet if JHS had a contest where the main prize was to spend a day with them it would make a ton of money... I’d pay!
I like this Ben guy. Take no sh_t kind of fella. He cooks up some delicious food, and then throws down some tasty beats. Nice to see Josh Jr playing bass with his Dad, too.
Ok howwwww did you get the drums to sound so good in that cavernous space. Very impressed
Also chef is slappin boy
They've got mics. You're not hearing it as an audience member.
I’m kind of disappointed.
I know they have mics and they probably gated a ton, I’m just impressed. Very good sound
I love all JHS videos, but this one takes the cake! For real, this was the most fun JHS video ever.
No one's gonna think make a food themed pedal content, but Josh did it! 💯💯💯
i didn't expect chef homie to have pockets. DAMN what a fun surprise
French Toast!
Also, record time should have been Sailing the Seas of Cheese
Yes. That's why I bought one
this is a super fun episode. great premise. proving you guys are the absolute best at this.
Love this. Keep doing it for sure. Lots of part 2,3 etc. possibility. Love what you do and how you do it.
I’m with Josh, milk goes with anything and the haters are just udderly wrong!
May not have learned anything, but this was a really fun and entertaining episode!
I've got an old DOD Juice Box on my board. It's basically a tubescreamer with more eq and more gain available. The paint job and the knobs and everything just made it a must have for me when I saw it at the shop.
So fully acknowledging what a genius idea this video was, can we acknowledge how multi-talented Ben is? Like clearly a good chef, and a pretty great drummer at that too! I was impressed.
That beer has me ready for Friday night.
After hearing the song, it's conclusive-marshmallows should NEVER be paired with with grilled cheese.
One of the best things I have seen on UA-cam, amazingly creative concept and having the chef also playing, the icing on the cake.
Oh my Josh! I love this concept! Sheer genius 👏! Would have never thought the executive chef was an executive drummer as well! Everything came together so well in this episode it's almost uncanny. Much love and gratitude to you all at JHS for making this videos. I look forward to them every week.
So amazing! There’s things in this world that don’t need to make sense and this proves it.
The Cheff playing drums was awesome!
What freaking great episode! Loved it! Made getting chemo fun again! Keep ‘em coming! Love you guys!
you've just made my morning so much better, THANK YOOOOU guys, you're amazing
and the jams! the're really good and diverse
as always tho
you make me keep my mood and my boxes
These guys are the cool uncles I wish I had
I was just about to ask if Chef plays, and then BAM 6:35
One of the best videos you made. Congrats to Ben, he's very patient with you ;)
This episode was super fun, loved it. I think 'Side of Funk' might be my favorite jam yet! AND THE FOOD LOOKS AND SOUNDS AMAZING!!!
I was a bit "nah" what is this chatting with a chef but then he started drumming :D Ha!!! Noice move lads! Drummer Chef!
what an episode is this, absolutely perfect, funny, and joyful.
Nick, are you a mixing engeneer ? Your drum micing is so smart, and it sounds so excellent, can you make a tutorial - how you get such a great drum sound with just 3 microphones (all 3 is dynamic)?
He did a tutorial on it already! Not sure if it’s here or on his channel Nix Tapes but it’s a great watch.
rogueoperative i seen it in jhs show, but its much more complicated and complex drums set mics, in this video nick has simple set and sounds great, so why i need tutorial that shows less is more
Great concept for an episode guys .Keep up the great work
The Hot Cake was named because Paul Crowther (of Split Enz fame) couldn't think of a name when he finally got the circuit right. A producer at a local studio told him he should call his next band "Hot Cakes", but Paul immediately thought it'd be the perfect name for his new pedal!
The brewery has a beer called Pour Life Choices, and that's a big mood.
The chef. Holding down the groove. Solid.
Your videos are amazing, fun, interesting, and really show the love for the craft. Never got one of your pedals because they're so expensive in Brazil. But I absolutely love the channel. Keep it up!
This is one of the very few videos I’ve watched all the way through to record time and loved every minute of it. Thanks
What did we learn? That Josh hangs with some talented folks
"What have we learned? Nothing. " My whole education right there
You spent 12+ years in school and learned nothing?
I work here and absolutely love the place and staff. Great company!
I love the way that you continue to grow this show and that I am surprised and smile and enjoy them more each week. Keep it up JHS
thats bad ass the chef is playing with them!!
A lot of extra work and metaphors stretched thin to jam with a friend.
Amazing episode. Loved every bit of it. great idea. 10 stars.
This is your best video to date! Jams were fantastic!
Americans : "This is a Fat Sandwich"
Brazilians : " Hold my Hot Dog with mashed potatos inside"
Search for : Hot Dog Paulista
If you don't need a spoon to be able to eat your hot dog, it ain't worth it.
@Cas van der Wal Yes, it is
Man...i thought there was gonna be one of those pedals with electrodes you hook up to things and you where gonna use actual foods! haha
You had me with that Pizza box gag. Mind blown.
so he's the head chef and he plays the drums? thats too cool
“I think people have had it, and said it’s not good.”
This is simultaneously the worst and best episode ever.
Loved this format, thanks for the laughs!
It feels like the chef is Josh’s band mate from when they were young and josh is giving him a free ad during this hash times for restaurants (and almost everything else, actually). Thumbs up, Josh/Jhs for the idea.
“Milk does not go with fries”
I beg to dream and differ from your hollow lies.
Same. I can drink milk with anything. Except maybe a Centaur.
That needs a special ale.
Does that mean putting them together is the dawning of the rest of our lives?
@@kobalt_ren01 Yes
This was my favorite episode EVER!!!! It was hilarious. I laugh so many times it was great.
Wow! Killer jams! You guys rock! Love this channel.
Super sweet jams! Great episode
Hated Radiohead. Creep came out when all white rock was self-hatred. Then every fratboy had the bumper sticker...
Then: I might be wrong . Which was Kid Amnesiac live. Idiots Idioteque. They got me one song at a time. Then kidA . Idioteque. One song at a time. Probably after Katrina, driving across the desert between LA and Joshua Tree over and over.
Definitely obsessed with that album for years. Then expanding outwards. Amnesiac. Ok computer. In rainbows. Every livebthong...
Kid A and Critical Beatdown. Lost highway desert music.
Defint
Message for JHS eyes only: Please dont play the NU-33 vinyl engine untill i but it because everytime a pedal is featured on your channel the price goes up so just give me a bit.
The chemistry in this video is fantastic! Excellent work, guys!!!
Josh, I was blown away when then chef started jamming on drums, awesome! Keep up these videos for us we love em!
THAT WASN'T A GRILLED CHEESE, IT WAS A MELT
Why are you yelling?
I mean that same line does have the tuna melt
The sudden cut from the chef talking about food to behind the kit was hilarious. Also Hawaiian pizza sucks.
At least the pedal of it is sick. Love that thing.
@@ethanrummel7638 Very true. That's a mighty fine pedal.
@@Jopeymessmusic Only fuzz I've ever found that is weird but still usable. Like it sounds good no matter how wacky it gets, which I love. Still don't really know what each knob does, but I don't care
@@ethanrummel7638 It is an insanely good fuzz, once dialed in. Does a great distortion sound too if you mess around with it. Ha ha ha.
the "he has the box" jingle for the pizza box almost killed me
I was very skeptical about this show but ultimately enjoyed it very much. Thank you.
I needed this. Seems like everything is political these days. I can't take it anymore. I feel like everyone is telling me to hate someone else.
I just wanna get along with people and jam.
He just wanna grill for god's sake
ok. this channel just jumped the shark.
Best episode to date. That was fun. Thanks guys
Beautiful episode. Thanks guys
Thumbs up if everyone would like Josh to make a video about: Chase Bliss, Zvex, Strymon, Sovtek and maybe Walrus Audio.
Wait a second, what ever happened to the promised sovtek episode
I love the jhs show, but I'm struggling with this one. You guys are sitting so close together and there's a surge in covid cases in your local area. Not sure if its because I'm from the UK and we're currently in lockdown again... just hope you're all staying safe and well.
I had some similar worries watching this video. Hopefully they all took precautions and got tested before filming
Yeah that got me worried too. I guess their calculation was that being so close was ok on such an open place but my quarantine senses are still tingling.
Amazing episode! Thank you Josh!
One of my favorite episodes so far now. Love it. Creative.....and now I must try City Barrel as well.
