- Presented by Mark Weathington, Director, JC Raulston Arboretum; Pat McCracken, Owner, Garden Treasures Nursery of Zebulon NC; and Blake Wentley, Education Assistant, JC Raulston Arboretum on August 28, 2024.
We love talking to our fellow plant nerds! Pat McCracken is the plant fanatic behind Garden Treasures, a plant nursery in Zebulon, NC that features a wide selection of rare and unusual plants for retail customers. Pat has been obsessed with plants his entire life and has been instrumental in the diversification of the American landscape through his plant collecting, breeding, and trialing of mutated sports and unusual seedlings. Join our Director, Mark Weathington, as he sits down for a Garden Conversation with Pat to talk about nursery production, plant exploration and all things novel and curious in the world of plants!
This program was originally presented live online. Tune into our midweek program live on Zoom, Wednesdays at 3:00pm eastern time. Here's the link: jcra.ncsu.edu/...
Excellent! Thank you Pat and Mark!
Fabulous opportunity to hear from Pat. Loved being able to visit his nursery and meet him last March. Now hearing the more personal side was so special. Thank you.
This was really interesting! Adding Garden Treasures to my list of nurseries to visit.
I met Pat through JC Raulston way back in 1994 or so and have known him ever since. He's such a kind and generous man, and really knows his plants!
This guy is amazing
😂is so funny how we are gardeners first but then we become so similar on things we like and do thanks for the hard work you guys put in…
Really enjoyed this one! Need to go to Garden Treasures soon.
Looking forward to the white carex. Just planted feather falls.
Good to hear dwarf loblolly pines should be getting more available!
Great conversation! What’s the plant on the thumbnail image?
That's the notorious Daphniphyllum teijsmannii 'Mountain Dove' - the plant that took Pat 30 years to figure out how to propagate. When you look at the beauty of the plant, and consider the difficulty with which more are produced, the price tag on his website looks more and more reasonable.
Wow!!! Thank you. What a beauty and a cool story behind it. Definitely on my bucket list now!!!
