My wife just picked up one of these. I love the sights and the grips but the safety is too small for the grips. It is extremely difficult to apply the safety with one thumb but taking the safety off is no problem which is what counts on the draw. The trigger pull is rather heavy at 5.5lbs and there is quite a lot of mushy pre-travel vs my other 1911. It seems that Sig doesn't bother to zero this pistol at the factory. It shot 6.5" low and 3.3" left at 15 yards. Lucky it has adjustable rear sights. The wife was very disappointed in the lack of zeroing, even though it can be fixed. Made her concerned at Sig's general quality control. Then another female shooter at the range passed her a Les Baer to compare the trigger pull weight and she shot a much tighter group with that. Now she is unhappy with the heavy trigger pull on what is sold as a target gun and wants a trigger job.
I now own one and still don't know why it was called Super Target besides for its looks. The trigger is over 5 pounds but with minimal creep. And the sights are good. But it doesn't shoot any better than my Match Elite 1911, which has a wonderful trigger. One thing that really bothers me is the shape of the left hand grip near the thumb safety. It's too thick right there and sliding your thumb upward to click the safety on is nearly impossible. It shouldn't take two hands to put on the safety of any pistol. Overall finish is totally flawless and gorgeous. The palm swells of the grip is comfy, even with my smallish hands.
I guess this for the bullseye center fired crowd. Practical pistol shooters probably will care little for those grips. Why is it super? Is the trigger less than 2 lbs. is it well balanced to hold one handed? Is there any guarantee of group size at any distance?

When I called sig about the issue, they said "sorry about your luck". Their custom shop offered no advice, and when I asked if they could do something to fix my sight, they said " no ". Any suggestions?
No, the Sig P210 is totally different gun..... it is much better and more accurate! Sig has now produced the sig p210a.... maybe the a stands for American?.... anyway, it is the USA produced p210 versus the German ones. The costs for the US made one is similar to the cost of the 1911 super target. Only prob is the p210 USA made one does not come full stainless. Only the overseas ones can be full stainless which is a pity. I have heard the p210 is very accurate due to the way the slide and frame is mated to each other. I have several of the p226 x5s and x6 guns by Sig.... and they are fantastic pistols for target shooting. I have a p220 x6 in 45 and 9mm.... most accurate 9mm I have! I don't have many target or competition 45s so can't say to much about this 1911 or the 220 x6. I do have a standard two-tone 1994 p220 in 45 that is very good and smooth with a short reset trigger. I just bought this 1911 super target for $980 used. They sell for $1250 to $1390 on gunbroker new. If you are really wanting a full steel target gun in 9mm, check out the sig x5s (average cost around $1900 for the very basic models) on gunbroker or maybe the new Walther Q5 match SF. If you are on budget, you can get the polymer Q5. I have that one and it is not bad... but still nothing compared to a full stainless gun on recoil. Cheap but good 9mm for target or competition would be the Canik TP9SFX which sells for around $450. It is optics ready just like the Walther.
I have seen this pistol in both black and SS, and was hoping to learn what makes this pistol a "super target" model. But this vid did not really touch on that at all. Is it similar internally to the custom shop soup of the Max? What makes it so special to warrant the big money? The finish? The fancy grips? Come on, do your job, Dude.

+IndyGlockMan I traded my sig STX 1911 for this and I love it. the trigger pull is nice smooth and crisp. if you are thinking of getting it go for it you won't be disappointed.

I'm finally getting around to getting my Firearms Acquisition Certificate here in Canada (pretty bureaucratic to get) after years of getting bugged to do so by a friend of mine who works in film as an armourer for film firearms & also teaches tactical shooting to the RCMP (I do film lighting). To my great surprise, I'm actually a not-totally-bad shot with a 1911, & find it tremendous fun, & love the way a 1911 fits into my hand. My question to you is this: what's the diff between the STX & the Super Target? The STX is a gorgeous looking gun & fits my budget if I close my eyes, but I actually do want to get into target shooting ... is the difference in quality enough to warrant eating nothing but macaroni & cheese for a while? It's hard, as a Canuck, to personally try these guns, as we don't have the sales-base that you guys do down there -- on the other hand, we don't have the massacres that you guys have all the time. All the best.

+Laurence Mardon Hi Laurence For me putting out the little extra money for the Super target was a no brainer. Every time I took out my stx it would jam with every mag. and one time it even missed fired. I shot about 100 rounds through it. So that was pretty frustrating. I knew I could have sent it back to Sig but I felt that for as expensive the stx was I shouldn't of had to send back a brand new gun. Then the super target comes along and I fell in love with it. I was able to trade my stx towards the super target at the shop I purchased it from. They were fully aware of the issues I was having with it. Everything about the super target is better then the stx. The fiber optic sight on the front the grips, the accuracy is way better then the stx I couldn't hit center target with stx at 25yds. but the super target I can. The fit and finish is awesome even the guys at the gun shop commented on what a pretty gun it was. I would say to you to save up the few extra dollars and get what you want. You won't be disappointed. Mac and cheese is pretty good. LOL
Beautiful gun, but that's all it has going for it, aesthetics. From the reviews, this is actually not a good 1911 at all. Ergonomics sucks, trigger sucks, it has issues. Definitely NOT worth the ~$1,800. Sig dropped the ball on this one.

+Merlin K. The Max has a variety of upgrades. I asked Sig about this and it seems that all the upgrades are cosmetic.

To be honest the trigger wasn't significantly better than most other Sig 1911 triggers. The slide to frame fit was nice and tight though.
