Great video, I live in Tennessee for just 5 more weeks and then I'm moving to New Bern. I'm not a very experienced salt fisherman so I think you're videos are going to help me get started. Good stuff and I'll probably be posting questions in the future, you have been warned. Peace!
Southern, i like the idea of having the mast next to me for operation. If the transducer is behind the drive do you get any interference that matters? I could mount in front of drive, but controlling the angel, deployment etc is a move from the seat....
I am adding livescope to my kayak. Have the ECHOMAP™ Plus 73sv with uhd transducer. No network box. Trying to decide how many amp hours I need of lithium batteries? I want at least a full day of use. Thanks for all your videos
This is my first time seeing your channel and a video like this. I'm blown away, this is by far the most impressive kayak rigging I've seen on youtube, awesome!
Fantastic setup! I use garmin on my bay boat and my yak. A friend bought HB's newest 12" screen setup, having trouble with it, called factory several times,,, Garmin is the best equipment that I've seen and used, had Lowrance, it was ok, but started giving me trouble, no trouble from the Garmin equipment and Ive had it for several years! Thanks for sharing, really a fantastic setup you have there!
It’d be nice if you listed what Ram arms you had? I am just guessing, but one looks like the c size double socket arm short version and the other is just the same thing but the medium size?
Great set up here!! How deep do you think the livescope transducer needs to be submerged? I have a extra transducer I replaced that I’m repairing the wiring on, hoping I can repair it & use it on my kayak , thanks
Thanks for getting back to me. I got your answer to the battery setup issue but needed to know what gauge wire you used to connect to the 4 batteries AND did you use a buss bar or did you just connect the wires from the chartplotter and the GLS 10 together then connected those to the heavier gauge wire from the batteries. Also do you use inline fuses and if so what size and where. Did you use fuses for each device or one for them both? I have all the same equipment as you do so I am just trying to put it all together the same way. Thanks again.
I used the inline fuses that came with each device. You should do it on each devices individual power wire after they split off from the main power wire where everything comes together. No bus bar just some good crimp connectors, dielectric grease and lots of heat shrink tubing. I connected everything to the main livescope wire, it is large enough to run everything. I had to extend the wires for the chartplotter though and I did that with similar gauge to their power wire.
Thanks for your assistance. Another question I have is how did you rig the Nocqua batteries in parallel. Do you not use their connectors? I see where they have several connectors, one allows you to connect two of them but has a button to switch when one batter has gone dead and the other is a Y connector I believe. Did you just cut their connector system and splice all the wires together and then use regular wire connectors to hook it all up? What charger do you use and how is the charging system connected? Lastly, were you able to buy just the battery or did you have to buy the whole kit with charger etc.? Thanks for all your help.
I used the connectors they send with the kit. After the connector I spliced all the black together and all the reds together and hooked them to a larger wire to feed the entire system. I can still remove the batteries using the connectors they provided and I use the charger they supply to charge each battery separately for proper charging. I remove the batteries and charge them out of the kayak. I bought 4 complete kits with chargers and connectors.
HI mate, i love this mount for the livescope transducer and will be trying to do something similar. I love how you can move it up out of the water easy, just wanting to know what you do if anything to the transducer power when moving spots. That pole would create drags so im assuming you lift it out the water when you move? Does it required to be turned off via the screen etc? Thanks
I do loosen the ram coupler and raise it out of the water when moving. If it is hot weather I go into the menu and disable transmit to help keep the transducer cool. It can overheat on warm days if you don't do this.
I have a couple of questions. First I have the same equipment as you. The Garmin Chartplotter and the Garmin Panoptix Livescope. I am in the process of getting a kayak and stetting this up in it. First, I see you use the 10 Ah lithium battery. Do you run both the chartplotter and livescope off of one battery or do you have one for each. How long does it last you using both the chartplotter and livescope system. Secondly, I have a similar livescope mounting system on my big boat but I find the ram mount doesn't hold the PVC pipe very well if you have any headway. I guess because the pole is so long. Do you find that your kayak setup with a very short piece of PVC is enough for the ram mount to hold it in place with out wanting to swing up as you move through the water? Thanks
I have 4 10 amp hour Nocqua batteries wired Parallel powering the entire system. I have gotten 2 full days of usage with this setup without charging. In my boat I use the larger Ram mount in D size to handle the larger pole and length. Also the pole itself is build out of larger pipe. Even still idle speed in gear is max on my setup. But that is around 6 mph
Sorry about that, after re-watching your video you did answer my battery questions. Now I just need to know if your panoptix mount system is sturdy enough that it doesn't want to swing up while in motion. Thank you.
Hey Jesse! I can’t seem to find that the clamp with the orange knob you modified. Can you send me the link on ram for that or some thing that will work but I don’t have to modify? Thanks!
Solution...glue a cap on the top of that PVC pipe...cut it down to more of a "collar" so that the pipe doesn't slide down..then paint the whole pipe unit black.
Is the UHD transducer worth the extra trouble of mounting the black box? That's a lot of screws in the deck of your Outback. I just bought a 2019 Outback and seriously thinking about copying everything you've done with the Garmin equipment. Still not totally sold on the Boondox idea.
Southern Reels Fishing I bought it anyway. I guess you must have cut the mounting plate to mount the Garmin UHD transducer. I could not get the supplied nose guard from Hobie to fit the transducer mount with this transducer. Or did you just mount the transducer without the noseguard?
I just discovered that the GCV 20 black box will not fit through the 8" hole. You must have purchased a different transducer that is not compatible with the EchoMap Plus fishfinder. I talked to Garmin about this and they said that one of the UHD transducers does have a smaller blackbox but does not work on high frequencies with the Echomap. Maybe that is why you didn't get the desired improvement in performance from it. I'm stuck trying to figure where to put this large GCV 20 box. May have to just put it on the bottom of the hull unsecured.
Do you have your batteries running to a yak power circuit system? Trying to figure out exactly how you have your power set up. Im going to basically do the same set up with multiple nocqua batteries.
Hey sorry, I basically wired all the batteries together into one larger wire to power the entire system. But I did it after the battery connectors. That way I can still remove them and charge them all seperately
Did you wire in a fuse and if so, what was the amp rating? I have the Yak Power box now powering my Humminbird with 3 Dakota Lithium 10Ah batteries wired in parallel I suppose and the box was wired with a 15amp fuse. I am by no means good at wiring so I was really hoping that I could power my unit using the power set-up I have now but wasn't sure if it would work for this one? I've heard it draws a good bit of power so wasn't sure my Yak Power set-up would be up to it or maybe it would be blowing fuses all the time? Sorry about so many questions, my electrical knowledge is weak to say the least. Love your set-up and videos. Thanks
Pretty cool ingenuity there. Can’t wait to see more video of it. I still have the old first gen Panoptix ducer, but these livescope videos are really enticing. Trying to wait until the tech gets placed into the head unit(no black box).
Thanks! And i think the new 8400/8600 Series Chartplotters have the ability to run both the Ultra HD and Livescope without black boxes. May have to verify that with their tech dept first though.
Great setup! I want to do something similar, but make the black box and batteries portable so I can move it between my kayak and larger boat. I will need to come up with an extending pole option.
Love the video! I have a 7in monitor. I’m getting the Panoptix livescope. In your opinion is the images on the 7in worth the investment of the livescope or do you feel that it need to be a bigger monitor for the live view? I already know mine is compatible just won’t if I should upgrade the image size.
Yes it works just fine. The panoptix is low resolution anyway and is really doesn't benefit from a high res screen. I have a 7 inch on my yak and it works just fine
Jesse, Since you have the Ultra HD box with its own transducer does it further enhance your LiveScope imaging or only side view and clear view sonar? Also, can you utilize split screen using both transducers simultaneously? Thanks
Okay thanks. UHD addition makes this quite an investment. Does it really make that big of a difference? What transducer came with your EchoMap Plus? My 73SV has a CV52HW.
Where did you find the connection diagram for connecting both LiveScope and the UHD box? I have the same setup and will be connecting the UHD today. Can you share the connections for this setup?
Southern Reels Fishing Appreciate the reply. I hooked it all up but I get noise on my UHD downscan when my LiveScope transducer is in the water. Have you experienced this? I’m going to call support when I’m on the water so we can talk through it.
That is a great yak set up, superb video quality!, i just bought the livescope and was looking for a way to mount it, and i really like the way tou set it up, what kind of mount do you have at the top gripping the pipe? that just makes it so easy to deploy and stow out of the way quickly, again great video!!
I think I'm going to buy the same Garmin Livescope and Garmin Chartplotter as you've got. I have a Bass Hunter Bass Baby boat. I love your setup! But my boat does not have a recessed area for the second transducer like your Hobie. Do you have any ideas for getting 2 transducers on the same transducer arm/pole? If not, any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Your setup is wonderful. I appreciate this video and the next video with the details of the parts you've used. It is extremely helpful to a person not so knowledgeable about these types of projects. BTW I'm in the Asheville NC area...the other side of the state from you I believe. Keep up the great work. You've earned a grateful subscriber.
I would just mount the other transducer to the rear of the boat somewhere protected. I wouldn't put it on the rotating arm. I would have to see your setup to be able to recommend any better honestly... Thanks for the comment and for subbing!
Yes they are wired in parallel, basically just hook all the Reds together and all the blacks together. I looked at many other battery options and the Nocquas just offered the best bang for the buck. I have four of them which gives me 40 amp hours of capacity, and for the $440 investment no other battery could compete with that at the time. Especially considering the nocquas come with chargers, connectors, and everything, and they are still the lightest. 40 amp hours of capacity and it only weighs 7 1/2 pounds.
Yes, I too have done some research but was leaning toward the 18v Milwaukee tool batteries due to multiple uses, problem is the adapter isn’t waterproof and somewhat bulky.
Hey Jessie! Question regarding the live scope. Does it come with a display unit? If I wanted to get some like that. What units would I have to buy ? I’ve been looking online but I don’t see any dealers selling a combo.
thanks for the video. one question about the sonar module ground wire . how did you connect it to the neg. wire on the NOCQUA since it is all sealed? or is the ground wire not necessary ??
Great video. Did your Hobie come with the guardian plate scoop protector? The little scoop in front of transducer. Is that upgrade transducer worth the money?
Yes it did. And yes I feel the upgraded Transducer gives a much better image, especially side scan. But it only work to about 30 ft depth on side scan then the image quality falls off back to regular side scan quality. Down scan is good to like 250 ft
I've watched all your videos on the garmin equipment and install and it's very impressive! I have to ask is there anything else close to the same performance for less money? BTW you have a great workshop wish I had something close to that size!
Thanks! And no the Livescope is in a league of its own as far as what it can do. Lowrance just introduced Livesight, but from what I see it is very inferior to Garmins offering.
Great videos. Do you know the maximum amp draw for the noqua batteries? Also, how do you wire the batteries to your equipment? Thanks and keep making videos.
Not sure of the max draw, and as far as wiring I just connect all the reds together and all the blacks together after each batteries individual pigtail, that way I can still charge each battery individually. Then hook all the electronics to the combined thicker wire.
Man that's nice! The wife said no already haha. She knows I got the idea for the gopro & mic from you and knew I was gonna ask about something like this before I had the chance to!
Thanks for all the hard work you put in making great content! How does the Panoptix perform in the shallow bays and can you use the 73sv with coastal mapping? I am about to move to Laguna Vista/ South Padre Island and plan to only fish the bays, no offshore. 2019 Hobie PA 12.
It does good in all water that is at least 4 ft deep. Shallower than that and the distance out that it shoots effectively is reduced dramatically. It still works but the image gets very noisy. I believe that model is supported but I would check with Garmin to be sure.
Love the setup and I'm a Garmin fan. The cost for that model is a bit hard to swallow for a newbie like me so I may have to go with a lower model, any recommendations?. I've yet have to grow some cajones and cut my rectangular hatch cause I don't have mad skills like you 🤣
Rick L. Same here. I think I'm going to go with this one that is also a Garmin fish finder GPS for just over a hundred bucks. www.bestbuy.com/site/garmin-striker-4-fishfinder-gps-black/4775402.p?skuId=4775402&ref=212&loc=1&&ref=212&loc=1&ds_rl=1266837&gclid=Cj0KCQiA-c_iBRChARIsAGCOpB0lhSaK8qqXZ8aqZbIuYhpGePNh_-OF_F1Zp5V9FYOKwBuHJM_w29saAosrEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Jesse great overview! Love the set up! Do you have a url link to the waterproof electrical switch you used (to cut off power to the black box)? I am looking to install a waterproof switch box for some gadgets and was considering different options for switches. Great video as always!
I searched my shop for 30 minutes trying to find something that would work and eventually ended up using a left over hub out of a hobie cart that had wheeleze sand wheels on it... I changed out the hubs to fit the larger Boonedox arms and had the smaller 1/2 inch hubs laying around. I wrapped some electrical tape around it unitl it was tight enough to thread into the mnpt fitting
Not really shaped right to git the guardian, you would want the traditional side scan transducer there... It doesn't have to be rotatable, but it makes it way more effective
Great idea. I pre-ordered a LiveSight from Lowrance. Been working on ideas for mounting it. I could not come up with a way to make it rotate. Mind if I steal your idea?
What happened to the Humming bird? saw a couple of the other videos of this unit and its pretty insane... Great vid. enjoy how you explain everything !
Close, only 3000 counting batteries and all...Thankfully it's all a write off on my business taxes, along with every thing else fishing related I purchase
That’s a sick setup. Great idea
Thanks!
Great video, I live in Tennessee for just 5 more weeks and then I'm moving to New Bern. I'm not a very experienced salt fisherman so I think you're videos are going to help me get started. Good stuff and I'll probably be posting questions in the future, you have been warned. Peace!
Thanks for watching and you will love the New Bern area
Great videos but I still have a question how are your transducers for live scan and side scan connected to your Garmin unit itself
Great video. Sometimes the construction is more fun than using the end result.
Sometimes lol! Not in this case
Wow...that's pretty sophisticated for a Yak set-up. Nice equipment and layout Jessie.
THanks man! Tested it yesterday and the rotating mount worked awesome. Only way to go with the livescope
I would go with at least 30
I was afraid you were going to say that. Lol. Thanks
I got the garmin echo 64 last fall, its a great unit.
Cool man! I'm liking garmin so far!
Just bought a livescope setup.. cost more than my hobie compass. Hopefully its worth it!
If you live around austin ill be your best friend 😁
Update us when you get installed bro!
I'd like to see the setup too. The rotating mount is worth the time designing. Tried it yesterday and it makes the system 100% more effective
Can't wait to see it on the water!!!
Tried it yesterday and it was awesome! Mount worked perfectly
One of the better set ups I’ve seen
Thanks bud!
How did you wire the batteries together or do you just switch out when one dies?
If you're running an On/Off switch do you have a fuse box? And what gauge wire are you running from the 40amp batteries? Thanks the the clarity
What size bolts/nuts and rubber washers did you use to mount your LS black box in the hull? Im in the process of doing the same. Thanks!
Very impressive, nice work.
THanks
This is my first time seeing your channel and a video like this. I'm blown away, this is by far the most impressive kayak rigging I've seen on youtube, awesome!
Well thank you for watching and commenting such a nice comment! I'm glad you like it! Tell your friends!
Thanks for the comment. I'm liking Garmin very much at this point. This system is amazing
Just deep enough to be able to see under the kayak hull to the other side at a 90 plane to the transducer pole is how I have mine
I have a couple of questions. First I have the same equipment as you. The Garmin Chartplotter and the Garmin Panoptix Livescope. I am in the process of getting a kayak and stetting this up in it. But that is around 6 mph
Where in nc are you I’m near surf city
What's your opinion on running a trolling motor with those Nocqua battries?
Wouldn't recommend it. The wires are not large enough to handle the amount of amps a trolling motor would draw
Nice. Great info
Thanks again!
Sorry about that, after re-watching your video you did answer my battery questions. Now I just need to know if your panoptix mount system is sturdy enough that it doesn't want to swing up while in motion. Thank you.
Yes it is sturdy enough
Would you rig the livescope fixed if you had a 360 drive?
No way. Has to rotate to be truly effective
How do you have the batteries set up? Right now I'm planning on running 2 noqua's to the black box and 1 to the head.
I have 4 of the batteries wired together. It give me 40 amp hours total. That has lasted 14 hours on the water before no problem
Hey Jesse! I can’t seem to find that the clamp with the orange knob you modified. Can you send me the link on ram for that or some thing that will work but I don’t have to modify? Thanks!
Its a hobie H rail mount
Solution...glue a cap on the top of that PVC pipe...cut it down to more of a "collar" so that the pipe doesn't slide down..then paint the whole pipe unit black.
Sounds like it might work! Also I do plan to paint it but wanted to test it first
What through hull kit did you use for the livescope cable?
The hobie 3 way I believe
Hey Jessie what model# is that down/side image transducer?
Its an older 94 SV. It has been replace with the UHD models I believe
Is the UHD transducer worth the extra trouble of mounting the black box? That's a lot of screws in the deck of your Outback. I just bought a 2019 Outback and seriously thinking about copying everything you've done with the Garmin equipment. Still not totally sold on the Boondox idea.
Not really honestly. I wanted to try it and it offers more detail but not enough to justify the cost
Southern Reels Fishing
I bought it anyway.
Got it installed. No more questions. Just wanted to tell you that you have an incredible shop. What a great place to work on your stuff!
Very well done video! I like the way you set up your kayak, it's simple looking but very functional.
Thanks!
Careful out there, it's cold everywhere, be safe! great Video!
Always safety first my friend!
Do you have your batteries running to a yak power circuit system? Trying to figure out exactly how you have your power set up. Im going to basically do the same set up with multiple nocqua batteries.
I think I figured it out by reading all your comments below. I appreciate your time and the videos. Have a good one.
Hey sorry, I basically wired all the batteries together into one larger wire to power the entire system. But I did it after the battery connectors. That way I can still remove them and charge them all seperately
Thanks man I appreciate it. Inspired me to think outside the box a little bit. Have a good one.
How did you hollow out the Hobie mount?
Die grinder and carbide burr, and some patience lol
Southern Reels Fishing I'm gonna try the RAM Mount Tough Claw.
That plus blue crab and a bottom sweeper bottom jig and the sheepheads are in trouble haha.
Oh it's on for sure
Thanks
No fuse other than what is used on the sonar equipment from the factory
With those 4 batteries you should look into the Yak Power hub. You can control all of your batteries from a controller for under 80 dollars.
Never heard of it, will have to look into it
Pretty cool ingenuity there. Can’t wait to see more video of it. I still have the old first gen Panoptix ducer, but these livescope videos are really enticing. Trying to wait until the tech gets placed into the head unit(no black box).

Yes it works just fine. The panoptix is low resolution anyway and is really doesn't benefit from a high res screen. I have a 7 inch on my yak and it works just fine
That's an awesome set-up. I'll look for that yak in your videos. Your CBBT videos are the best. Carpe Diem.
Thanks for the comment my friend!
Jesse,
Since you have the Ultra HD box with its own transducer does it further enhance your LiveScope imaging or only side view and clear view sonar? Also, can you utilize split screen using both transducers simultaneously? Thanks
It has no effect on the livescope image, Totally separate system... And yes you can do split screen however you want, even 3 way screens
Sorry for late reply, there in no diagram, I called tech support and they walked me through it
Southern Reels Fishing Appreciate the reply. I hooked it all up but I get noise on my UHD downscan when my LiveScope transducer is in the water. Have you experienced this? I’m going to call support when I’m on the water so we can talk through it.
Nice gears..too bad it's beyond my payscale :)
Thanks and sorry I know it is a bit expensive
Does the ultra hd upgrade make the panoptix livscope more clear or you just got it to upgrade the side view down view clear view clarity?
It only helps down scan and side can
Nice video! What's is the difference between Livescope and Panoptix Forward PS22 tranducer?
That is a great yak set up, superb video quality!, i just bought the livescope and was looking for a way to mount it, and i really like the way tou set it up, what kind of mount do you have at the top gripping the pipe? that just makes it so easy to deploy and stow out of the way quickly, again great video!!

@@SouthernReelsFishing
I will look into this, by far the best deploy set up I've seen, thank you so much for the reply

Does it get in your way of paddling?
Are your Nocqua batteries wired in parallel?
Have you heard of the FPV-Power 17.5 ah battery? If yes, could you explain why you chose Nocqua instead?
The FPV-Power battery has a 7 amp max draw. A lot of these li-ion batteries coming out now have cutoffs above a certain amperage.
Hey Jessie! Question regarding the live scope. Does it come with a display unit? If I wanted to get some like that. What units would I have to buy ? I’ve been looking online but I don’t see any dealers selling a combo.
No it only comes with the transducer and the Black box to run it, you have to buy a compatible chartplotter as well
thanks for the video. one question about the sonar module ground wire . how did you connect it to the neg. wire on the NOCQUA since it is all sealed? or is the ground wire not necessary ??
I just tied it in with all the other ground connections then hook all that to the Nocqua
Save some money secretly, trust me it's worth it!
@@SouthernReelsFishing Thank you and let us know when you start booking trips in that new boat:)
Love the setup and I'm a Garmin fan. The cost for that model is a bit hard to swallow for a newbie like me so I may have to go with a lower model, any recommendations?. I've yet have to grow some cajones and cut my rectangular hatch cause I don't have mad skills like you 🤣
Rick L. Same here. I think I'm going to go with this one that is also a Garmin fish finder GPS for just over a hundred bucks. www.bestbuy.com/site/garmin-striker-4-fishfinder-gps-black/4775402.p?skuId=4775402&ref=212&loc=1&&ref=212&loc=1&ds_rl=1266837&gclid=Cj0KCQiA-c_iBRChARIsAGCOpB0lhSaK8qqXZ8aqZbIuYhpGePNh_-OF_F1Zp5V9FYOKwBuHJM_w29saAosrEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Jesse great overview! Love the set up! Do you have a url link to the waterproof electrical switch you used (to cut off power to the black box)? I am looking to install a waterproof switch box for some gadgets and was considering different options for switches. Great video as always!
No I don;t have a link, I think I just stopped by the local marine shop and bought whatever they had
@@SouthernReelsFishing Gotcha, thanks Jesse! I'll look into that.
@@SouthernReelsFishing Gotcha thanks Jesse!
What did u use as the turning cap?
I searched my shop for 30 minutes trying to find something that would work and eventually ended up using a left over hub out of a hobie cart that had wheeleze sand wheels on it... I changed out the hubs to fit the larger Boonedox arms and had the smaller 1/2 inch hubs laying around. I wrapped some electrical tape around it unitl it was tight enough to thread into the mnpt fitting
Thanks. I’ll be building one similar to your design.
Hey when I first started my unit up it asked me if to select a vessel type: powerboat or sailboat. What should I use for kayak?
Doesn't matter really
Can you install that on the guardian with some modification? Or does it have to be steered like how you had it setup
Not really shaped right to git the guardian, you would want the traditional side scan transducer there... It doesn't have to be rotatable, but it makes it way more effective
Can someone link the batteries he is using
Sorry meant to put it in the description

I just bought a garmin 73sv for my hobie. did you use the universal ram mount?
Yes I did but I had to drill my own holes in it
Great idea. I pre-ordered a LiveSight from Lowrance. Been working on ideas for mounting it. I could not come up with a way to make it rotate. Mind if I steal your idea?
Not at all that is why I shared it
What happened to the Humming bird? saw a couple of the other videos of this unit and its pretty insane... Great vid. enjoy how you explain everything !
Still have it, shelved it for now. And thanks for watching and commenting
wowwww
$3,500 worth of electronics. that is pretty serious.
Close, only 3000 counting batteries and all...Thankfully it's all a write off on my business taxes, along with every thing else fishing related I purchase
Southern Reels Fishing you the man!
Nah, just trying to get in position to do this for a living one day
I hope you do man, IMO you have some of the best video editing skills in this category, great content and obviously some of the best gear set ups..
You sir, will be responsible for a sizable dent in my wallet!
Sorry my friend!
I know where my tax return is going ever since you posted the crappie vid. And also does that finder allow you to map a lake bottom and save it?
Yes it does have that if you connect it with the active captain app on your phone I believe
