  • Anderson demonstrates three highly effective techniques for countering single leg attacks: the Switch, the Spladle Throw, and the Khabarelli Throw. These techniques come from his DVD titled "Takedowns & Takedown Defense for MMA", which is part of his MMA Ultimate Set DVD series. Also available is Anderson's new book titled "MMA Instruction Manual: The Muay Thai Clinch, Takedowns, Takedown Defense, and Ground Fighting". Word of advice: stay out of the comment section it's filled with trolls. Go and use some of these great techniques in live training with open minded partners. Thank you Anderson! Oss! 🤼‍♂️🥋🔥

    This works if the guy is hesitating or fighting for position. If the fighter shoots explosively with strength, its very hard to pull off unless you're super fast.

      RIGHT,,,, Anderson Silva could never withstand a full frontal buffalo attack,,,,most fighters keep being calculative against him but go all in and he breaks like he broke his flimsy leg just by kicking,,,

    BONUS: during the spladle, hook the leg you didnt grab already with the the leg your opponent is holding and roll backwards. you should have both his legs so you can pressure his head with your stomach to pull off a submission.

  • @BuiltForSin0
    @BuiltForSin0 10 років тому +38

    these techniques r no good vs a good wrestler, the drive will prevent you from leaning down to grab cause your gonna be focusing on stability. Thats why you either sprawl or underhook there arms and either pull your leg out or bring it to the ground.

    • @sullysullivan2263
      @sullysullivan2263 5 років тому +1

      D_Journey I agree. But maybe against the cage, only problem is trying to pivot after grabbing leg. And I wouldn’t expect him to do this now after his injury.

  • @crazyriders83
    @crazyriders83 11 років тому +1

    Idk if I'd call them bullshit. They'll work for a tall guy with long limbs like Silva. A 5'10 stocky guy like myself isn't going to be able to pull off that last move Silva did, especially on a larger opponent. I like watching Rousimar Palhares clips. Stays low, uses quick, powerful attacks. Then again, Palhares also routinely benches 400 lbs in his workouts. So unless you are super strong like he is you might not try ripping someone's ankle off. It usually results in being kicked in the face.

  • @TheLockon00
    @TheLockon00 11 років тому

    Indeed. Especially considering you have to move the opponent's head to the outside to complete most of these moves. It's a step that could likely prove quite costly.

  • @ghollisjr
    @ghollisjr 7 років тому +5

    I like the concepts here, but they all hinge on the opponent attempting to vertically lift the leg and create distance instead of driving into you and placing you off center.
    There isn't much you can do if a good wrestler puts you off center and doesn't let you have space, as you can't bring your leg back down for leverage, not can you move his head to the outside.

  • @chuey1988
    @chuey1988 12 років тому

    Honestly, even with all those years of wrestling you talk about having, in a wrestling match with him you probably wouldn't win. You think just because you see him getting taken down in the ufc that he's not qualified to teach takedown defense? In a pure wrestling match between you and Silva, I would still bet on Silva.

    The rule of UFC support wrelting style. When you single leg takedown fail no counter in the ground you can punch in the face or hammer fist but not back to the head. If UFC allow soccer kick. Wreslter style he think again and again when he takedown fail he deserve counter attack by soccer kick or knee to the face.

    College wrestling doesn't automatically > Anderson's wrestling.
    College wrestling + Chael Sonnen's credentials > Anderson's wrestling. Look up Sonnen's wrestling credentials and you'll see why he dominated Silva in wrestling for 6 rounds. That's also why Chael Sonnen's wrestling credentials > Okami, Marquardt, D. Miller, Brian Stann and Michael Bisping's wrestling. College wrestling =/= what people imagine it actually does.
