Samus Returns was done so dirty. If it had released in the place of Federation Force, I think Metroid would have more of Nintendo's attention and marketing due to positive reception, and it probably would have sold better too.
Idk why they took so much time in between Other M and Samus Returns. If Samus Returns had been released in 2015 instead, a lot of the bad blood could have been avoided even before Federation Force. Hell, they could have just dropped a trailer in 2015 promising Samus Returns in 2016 instead to build up hype. I have no idea why they waited so long to put Metroid on 3DS.
@@l.n.3372 My guess is a combination of not enough interest and being busy doing other things. The vitriol surrounding Other M was so toxic (not saying it was unwarranted, but it was still ridiculous) that Nintendo probably didn't want to risk angering its fans even more with another Metroid game. Remember, Other M was directed by Metroid veteran, Yoshio Sakamoto. If he couldn't make a Metroid game to please fans, it's unlikely anyone else could. I really liked EverOasis. I thought it was a great game and I liked that you could play dungeons over again with harder enemies as you built up your town more and more.
I started playing Ever Oasis recently and OH BOY does it scratch a certain itch, it's a style of game that was already so rare. I was expecting RPGish dungeon crawling but it in fact has much more Zelda-like puzzle-based dungeons, and other than that it fits the mold of Dark Cloud more than anything else.
There was the Luigi's Mansion rerelease on 3DS which I really enjoyed, It gave people an easy way to play that great game without busting there butts on a Gamecube to access it, and seeing as Dark Moon worked so well handheld it just made sense to bring this one over.
I really hope that we will get a successor to the Etrian Odyssey series on the Switch. It's a perfect dungeon crawler, which aren't as popular nowadays. Etrian Odyssey 3 Untold on the Switch would be great introduction point for newcomers.
Arrrrgh, this SO much, dood. EO is such a grand adventure and unapologetically old-school. I love creating a story out of my guild and the journey around them. With a Switch version, I still hope that cartography is still a thing. I don't care what anyone says- making maps is totally awesome and it adds to the journey.
We have seen only 5 of the 7 Yggdrasils stablished in Untold, not counting the Yggdrasil of EO 3 because it has a completly different origin, so I'm pretty sure we'll see the remaining ones on Switch entries
@Nhat Anh Hoang Doesn't mean you can't get it to work? You could always swap screens- make it so the main screen becomes secondary while you draw the map out. The buttons can be swapped with a hotkey table, and even touch controls. It's not like they're gone, lol.
All fantastic games i agree, i'd really like to add Hey Pikmin to it too though, i really enjoyed it and don't think it was given much of a chance by anyone, but i was pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed the game, particularly the blue and winged Pikmin sections which really make these two types shine in a way the main series doesn't. I highly recommend it to any 3DS owners who are yet to try it.
The 3DS is honestly one of my favorite consoles of all time. So many underrated classics that I hold close to my heart. And I'm still not finished with all it's games! It's gonna be a wild ride replaying them!
The beautiful graphics took a hit and the co-op was removed but those were small prices to pay since it still looks good and the co-op was too frustrating anyway. The fact that it included those Poochy auto-runner levels, the cute stop-motion animation videos, and costumes for the amiibo that released after the Wii U version was certainly a nice bonus.
I actually bought it, but gave up on it after only an hour or two of playing. Yo-kai Watch 1 was the only one I completed, and while I liked that game, I wasn't a fan of the battle system, so when the second game was anounced and looked very similar to the first one, I passed. Then the third game came around and it actually looked like they changed the battle system quite a bit, so I was very excited and picked it up immediately. However, upon playing it, I found that these changes didn't actually amount to very much and the battle system still felt very similar, so I wasn't motivated to keep playing and eventually gave up on the game. With Yo-kai Watch 4, they made the switch to an entirely action-based battle system, so maybe if that ever comes here I'll give it another try... although then again, I wasn't really a big fan of Level 5's action-based combat systems so far, either (I think both Yo-kai Watch Blasters and Ni no Kuni 2 had their shortcomings). I really want to love this series (and I do in many ways), but unfortunately gameplay-wise, no Yo-kai Watch game was quite for me so far. :/
I highly recommend giving it a go if you've never played it. There's a few flaws, but the positives far outweigh the negatives imo. It has a lot of content if you end up really liking it. (also Blasters was overlooked as well)
Honestly I think it's the best version. It's content complete, more portable (which is crucial for a game of its type) and the Switch version plays terribly docked anyway. I own all 3 systems it's on, I went with the 3DS version and I don't regret it. The Wii U might be a better experience but is missing levels and I can't justify owning both :P
I played almost all of these games, except Q2, fire emblem, and wario ware gold, & they are all my favorites for the system and I believe they are severely underrated
I'm loving all the 3ds love lately. The last 3 years of the had some fantastic titles. My favorite was Warioware Gold. It made me giggle so much. The 3DS is my favorite console, and it holds a special place in my heart. Its what got me back into console gaming after not playing anything but pc for many years.
I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. It’s a great game and has extra content that wasn’t there for the ds version. I played the 3ds version and it was so good. It has time travel and multiple endings with some voice acting.
If they are never going to have a Virtual Console on the Switch than they need to port a good chunk of the 3ds library. Most of them just being upscaled to higher res and faster frames would look great. Just being able to play them on the Switch’s nicer screen would be amazing. Games like Samus Returns that’s amazing but came out late in the 3ds life I think most people missed it. With Zeldas anniversary how about port the 3ds games over. God I would kill for A Link Between Worlds in HD. That game was beautiful as it was.
The thumbnails of y’all whenever you guys have a list of games and it’s just one of you holding a stack of games and making a cheesy grin makes me laugh every time. Keep up the good work!
Miitopia would be right at home on this list! I still open up my 2DS XL to work on the post-game stuff and see what antics my Miis are up to. Great game!
I'm really disappointed with the use of Miis on the Switch. They're used in only a few games like MK8D & SSBU and don't get love like they did from WII to 3DS. Games like Wii Sport, Wii Party, Tomodachi Life & notably, Miitopia, a late 3DS games, are a lot of fun. I find it always great to play as Miis and they're such generic characters that they can be in any style of game.
@Robert Kenny you're very right Am2r was/is a good game but that don't mean because of what Nintendo did I won't support the metroid series.Again good point
My first dive into Fire Emblem is now on Awakening on the 3DS, and am loving it. Been also trying out Ever Oasis and loving that too. Weirdly everyone is talking about the 3DS right now, and it's starting to trend. Pulled a tonne of my old games out, even replaying Link Between Worlds and have to wonder why more of these games don't just get upscaled to Switch. There are emulators that run them at 2k and 4k just beautifully, and I would happily buy these games to run on my Switch.
I actually did get Ever Oasis, but for some reason didn't get very far before I put it down, I really should resume play as I actually loved the character designs and gameplay.
I love the Switch’s library, and I love all the recent ports I can play on it. Best home console because of its portability. But the 3DS library is absolutely something special.
I think switch will have a great library in time, it’s still new. Ds has been around for awhile so naturally the game library will be more impressive. DS games definitely have their own charm to them, very nostalgic games for many people. That’s why I won’t move to switch unless my DS dies. I can’t let go, I love it too much. 😂
@@poudink5791 That’s still really new for a console. The switch is the newest Nintendo console so yes, in relation to all consoles before it, it’s new. I doubt the DS library was as impressive three years into its release.
I’d like to add one game to list: Yo Kai Watch 3. It technically came out in 2016 but didn’t exit come out of Japan until 2019, and it was slept on HARD. Yo Kai Watch 3 is probably one of the biggest games on the 3DS and my personal favorite monster collection game. The world is big and fun to explore, the story is fun, the gameplay is unique, and there’s just so. much. content. And while you’re at it, check out the first two games.
I agree, a lot of games came out between 2017- 2019 for the system but the games were not given the attention they deserved. It really doesn't help that the Switch is not backwards compatible with previous handheld games.
Not just Persona Q2 and Etrian Odyssey, but the other Atlus RPGs like Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, The Alliance Alive, and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux.
I think I might be one of the remaining 4 people looking forward to Monster Hunter Stories 2! I had a lot of fun with the first one and the simple combat with the rewarding item gathering loop let me sink a lot of time into it by playing on my breaks at work.
This is great! I started playing that Dragon Quest game recently and definitely want to pick up that Fire Emblem game too. I actually got the Dragon Quest game when it came out because I didnt want to get a switch yet! I had too many 3ds games to play still. Hah
Thanks for this video Jon! I picked up a 3ds a few months ago, and have been enjoying it! It's a splendid little console. I'll have to add some of the games you talked about to my wish list!
The worse part of Samus Returns is the fact a ton of people didn't buy it using the fact they played AM2R the previous year as an excuse. The ones who make me especiallymad where the ones who "If Nintendo did an official remake of this game I would buy it, but we all know Nintendo wouldn't do that" and then didn't keep their word.
A lot of those types of fans are really annoying. They're the worst type of fan. Especially frustrating is when those same people turn around and complain about Prime 4 delays despite never giving Samus Returns a chance, as if Nintendo didn't remake a game in 2017.
Neat video. I've thought about Persona Q2 (and I've read about its story and characters) but my main problem with that game is that unlike Q1 and the other Persona games Atlus decided that there'd be no English voice acting included in part due to being released at the end of the 3DS' life cycle. I realize it's probably not that big a deal but still though it's just baffling to me that it's the only Persona game so far that they decided not to dub in other languages.
They are also remakes of the second game in each of their respective series. Fire Emblem has never had higher production value in its voice acting and art direction than Shadows Of Valentia. Not even Fire Emblem Three Houses comes close.
@@zwillscoopchannel9689 Haha, yeah there is a show based on the game! Actually, I watched the show and It’s pretty good in my opinion. If you are a fan of the show or you enjoyed it, you must try the game! It’s worth checking it out!

@@GameboyZeroOfficial I have both Vita Slim and 2DS their both hacked/modded and have all the games with 128gb micro sd card!
I was amazed by how good Ever Oasis was!
@Nhat Anh Hoang I could care less for your negative and petty attitude, so I'll just say that I'll look forward to what happens in the future, lol.
Thank you for reminding me of that pikmin game! I received the download code for a birthday gift awhile back. I downloaded it but have not played it 😕
The 3DS is honestly one of my favorite consoles of all time. So many underrated classics that I hold close to my heart. And I'm still not finished with all it's games! It's gonna be a wild ride replaying them!
Miitopia was one of my fav late 3ds games! I love the idea of fleshing out the creativity of Tomodachi Life into a full RPG!
WarioWare Gold was definitely overlooked.. loved the Simpsons reference!
Finally got my hands on Ever Oasis after missing out back when the 3DS eshop was open. Such a good game and Evia is perfection.
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is my top pick for 3ds game overshadowed by Switch. Absolutely superb. Wish more people knew about it.
its so overshadowed it didnt even gwt on the list :(
It wasn't overshadowed by Switch, it was overshadowed due to its exceedingly limited print run. Many of the later 3ds games suffered this issue.
This is a fantastic game. I have both releases of it. Excellent!
This game is one of the main reasons is why I wish there was a way to stream 3DS games.
Stocke's character
Thank you SO much for mentioning Ever Oasis!! We desperately need to see this game again.
Your voice John is extremely soothing 😊 I could listen to it all day.
The 3ds is such an underrated console, but at least it sold well. The ds line is probably my favourite.
underrated? it was a huge success
A port of Yoshi's Woolly World came out for the system too. And is pretty good.
@@OstianOwl not to mention you could design your own yoshi
And of course the adorable yarn Poochy amiibo
Loved it.
that technically wouldn't qualify for the list, it came out about a month before the Switch
Still feel like Yo-kai Watch 3 was overlooked
I didnt bought it becouse i thought it isnt that good and i think sometime im going to play it
@@bold3420 I recently bought it, and it’s actually really good! I would definitely recommend it.
(also Blasters was overlooked as well)
Ok i think im going to try it
Yes! Ever Oasis deserves more love! QvQ
Warioware Gold is one of my favorite games! I agree that it is under-rated. Edit: yes, there should be a remaster of Warioware Gold @MisterZygarde64
@Red Luigi yeah but I still want them to make a remaster uwu
I still can't believe how amazing Captain Toad on the 3ds looks.
John is such a wonderful addition to NintendoLife. I love all of his videos here! Thanks for the amazing content you are all making
Ever Oasis is one of my favorite games. Really, i wish they'd port it!
I played almost all of these games, except Q2, fire emblem, and wario ware gold, & they are all my favorites for the system and I believe they are severely underrated
A word of advice, in order to play PQ2 you should probably play P3,4,5, and Q1 first, spanning multiple sony consoles
I thought nobody else had played Ever Oasis.
It’s so good and I wanna see an HD remaster
I fucking love that game
When I saw the thumbnail that was the first thing that came to my mind
Ever oasis is very underrated and amazingly good!
Glad I watched this, I'm really pumped to try some of these. Thanks!
Alliance Alive was the best original 3DS RPG, and it was so slept on.
Played the HD Remastered version on Switch and it’s easily one of my favorite JRPG’s of all time. Way underrated.
I'm really glad Ever Oasis made it in! It's easily one of the most underrated games in the 3DS library!
Samus Returns should, at the very least, get a port.
Then again I say the same thing about Kid Icarus Uprising, and I'm still holding out hope.
I totally agree on a Samus returns port to keep us occupied till Metroid prime 4 :)
Still waiting for a Rhythm Heaven game on the Switch please Nintendo!
Flipperdrip
I wish I never sold my copy of Ever Oasis. I guess I felt like I wouldnt go back to it, but I really, really enjoyed the game the whole way through.
The thumbnails of y’all whenever you guys have a list of games and it’s just one of you holding a stack of games and making a cheesy grin makes me laugh every time. Keep up the good work!
Sushi Strikers Way of Sushido was a forgotten release even though it was dual
Yes! This game is lots of fun and I've seen several reviewers state that the 3DS is actually the definitive version because of integral touch screen.
Jon’s voice gets higher and higher every intro.
Love it!
I'm surprised you didn't mention the original Luigi's Mansion remake, which was released in Oct 2018 on 3ds
I have played through a good chunk of this last year right before I got LM3 on the Switch. Really enjoyed it. Maybe should go back and complete it.
Great video! There were a few other late great 3DS games that weren't mentioned in the video like The Alliance Alive and the Luigi's Mansion remake.
Shout out to everyone who got most of these for like 5 quid each at Argos a while back
You got me there 😂
Miitopia would be right at home on this list!
I find it always great to play as Miis and they're such generic characters that they can be in any style of game.
geniually had no idea captain toad was on the 3DS, i really need to pick it up again for switch, I loved it on Wii U.
Waiting for the episode where Jon gets to talk about Rhythm Paradise Megamix solely.
The switch is a blank slate compared to the 3ds.
The moment you boot it up you can tell where all the love went to.
Samus Returns was so good. Shame on Metroid fans for saying they want new mainline games and letting this game bomb.
They're very hard to please
FE: Echoes is so relatable. I absolutely love that FE game!
I actually did get Ever Oasis, but for some reason didn't get very far before I put it down, I really should resume play as I actually loved the character designs and gameplay.
Unpopular Opinion: the 3DS has the best library of games. And I easily prefer it over the Switch's library.
not much of an unpopular opinion there. the switch's library is ports, ports and more ports.
@@bamb3928 the switch is over three years old. not sure you can call that new.
@@poudink5791 That’s still really new for a console. The switch is the newest Nintendo console so yes, in relation to all consoles before it, it’s new.
I doubt the DS library was as impressive three years into its release.
I’d like to add one game to list:
Yo Kai Watch 3.
Enjoyed so very much more than I ever cared for Pokemon. 3 was my first and lots of fun.
I feel like the 3DS as a whole has been overshadowed by the Switch. It’s unfortunate, cuz the 3DS has so much personality and charm
I agree, a lot of games came out between 2017- 2019 for the system but the games were not given the attention they deserved. It really doesn't help that the Switch is not backwards compatible with previous handheld games.
Not just Persona Q2 and Etrian Odyssey, but the other Atlus RPGs like Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, The Alliance Alive, and Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux.
i hope Samus Returns & Ever Oasis get a new chance on the Switch
Yay, you added in Fire Emblem: Echoes!
Gotta say, the Luigi’s Mansion remake is really enjoyable. It looks great, and was honestly a surprise alongside the release of 3.
A video about 3DS games many missed due to the Switch? With Jon as the host?
This is gonna be good.
I think I might be one of the remaining 4 people looking forward to Monster Hunter Stories 2! I had a lot of fun with the first one and the simple combat with the rewarding item gathering loop let me sink a lot of time into it by playing on my breaks at work.
Am I the only one who loves the content as much as this guy’s voice and eyes? Like wow 🙈
Shadows of Valentia is my favourite FE game. Wish every FE looked and sounded the same.
Same. Everything about the presentation just hit the nail on the head for me. Music, art, story and voice acting. Absolutely superb.
This is great! I started playing that Dragon Quest game recently and definitely want to pick up that Fire Emblem game too. I actually got the Dragon Quest game when it came out because I didnt want to get a switch yet! I had too many 3ds games to play still. Hah
Ever Oasis was so much fun and stories was a lot of fun, if only it wasn't rock paper scissors it would have been a perfect rpg.
Samus Returns was so low quality in every way . It should never have been made
Jon is 15 years ahead of all the you tubers who will be making nostalgic WiiU and 3DS content by then.
I want a 3DS now. Thanks a lot
Metroid 2 and Shadows of Valentia are 2 of the greatest 3DS games. Get in the bin Switch!
They are also remakes of the second game in each of their respective series. Fire Emblem has never had higher production value in its voice acting and art direction than Shadows Of Valentia. Not even Fire Emblem Three Houses comes close.
Samus Returns is awful. The original Metroid 2 is better in every way
Ever Oasis is still one of my favorite games. I occasionally go back to it (that and Fantasy Life). Still need to finish Fire Emblem Echoes.
Monster Hunter Stories is such a great 3ds game. This game deserves more love.
I’m going to be honest I never new that was a game I just thought it was a show
@@zwillscoopchannel9689 Haha, yeah there is a show based on the game! Actually, I watched the show and It’s pretty good in my opinion. If you are a fan of the show or you enjoyed it, you must try the game! It’s worth checking it out!
Thank you for this video. It came in the right time. I love the 3DS. My family and I still play the 3DS and Switch. Both daily. It will live on for decades.
Mario And Luigi: Superstar Saga should be on the Switch! It deserves too for being such a good and great game to play!
Metroid: Samus Returns is also one of my favorites. The way it was remade you'd swear it was an entirely new game.
I loved Ever Oasis! I had to support the people that make Secret of Mana. I can't wait to see what else they make next besides the remakes that are so great as well.
Ok, thank you truly for adding ever oasis on your list , ever oasis and fantasy life are my 2 fav games on the 3ds.
