Really fun watching you preparing for NaNo, especially since I'll be taking it on for the first time this year. Thanks for the motivation boost! :D

I can't imagine formatting a book without Vellum. It takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes from the time I upload the manuscript until I'm finished with both the ebook and the print versions. When I first got it, I didn't have to go through any kind of tutorial. I just played with it for a little. It's very user friendly. I ended up having to buy a Mac so I could use the software, but I had wanted a Mac for years so it was the perfect excuse :)
Glad you're feeling better and good luck with the formatting!

After this paperback formatting I might give Vellum a go! The eBook isn't bad with Scrivener but I'm not a fan of how long InDesign takes 😖

@@VivienReis I wouldn't be able to format another way. Vellum is pricey up front, but I've used it now for 11 e-books and 9 print books, so it's more than paid for itself just in terms of time and frustration. It's also very easy to update the files when you have to expand your back matter to include additional works or change contact info, etc.

Ok, one - that keyboard looks futuristic and fun! Second, I've used Scribus (free open source program) for four+ paperback books (fiction novels, childrens, & non-fiction). It's fairly simple; yet it works good for me. 🤠👍

On awesome, I'll check it out!
And I can't wait to use that keyboard! I literally stare at it every day but I'm waiting for NaNo 😂

I use Vellum and I really like it. The only issue is there are some things that you can't do in Vellum and you have to edit as a PDF later. It makes formatting super easy though

In one of your videos you talked about reading your manuscript into a recorder. Could you tell me which video that is? I would like to hear your advice on which recorder to buy. Thank you

    • @VivienReis
      @VivienReis  3 роки тому

I don't have any recommendations on recorders to buy but for microphones I use the AT2020 and love it.
Is this for dictation? I have two videos on dictating:
      ua-cam.com/video/dWMaMeywZwU/v-deo.html
      ua-cam.com/video/XIhMDAKxrTc/v-deo.html
You can try dictation for free on most smartphones, with a Mac or on Google Docs to see if you like it.

Hello, I'm a new fantasy author. My novel is complete, but still raw in word. Should i format with KDP first, or grammarly first? I'd appreciate any thoughts or comments. Thank you for developing such a wonderful resource for new/first-time authors. Take care, and have a great day!

I'm almost done with my first book and I was wondering about copyright law as it pertains to using the title of another book in the story. The main character says his favorite book is The Razor's Edge by W. Somerset Maugham. He doesn't use quotes from the book, just uses the name. Do I still need to ask if I can use it if I'm only using the title? I'm sorry to ask, I just don't know where else to look. Thank you so much for any help you can give! Hope your hands feel better soon!

I printed one of my stories and downloaded a formatted file from Draft2Digital. My laptop doesn't let me install MS Word for some stupid reason. I've seen people use Scribus but I am still learning how to use/find everything. I don't own InDesign but it's on my budget list for when I actually get to a point where I am ready to publish. I plan to do everything myself because I am not made of green LOL xD ♥

I just use Word for formatting, but for now on I'm using 'Book design templates' with it. It makes it a little easier, and they have pretty cool interior designs to choose from.
