Well its getting pretty nippy in the morning here in New Hampshire so we needed to get this done! We used Foam it Green Closed Cell spray foam packs, we used a 200 ft pack and another 600 ft pack. This stuff is not cheap but definitely more affordable than buying multiple 200 packs from your local big box store. We went with this so it would be sealed since it is exposed underneath and we waited too long to call and see if we could have a spray foam company do it for us.
Overall were pretty happy with the product and process.

Few layers of clear packing tap over the goggles to make tear aways
Dude that’s a great idea!
I like the spray foam idea but i have found that its easier on both the pocket and the work to use rockwool insulation and wrap it with a vapor barrier.. insect and rodents hate rockwool and wont usually mess with it and i find it gives a little better insulation and helps with sound... I am in the middle of doing an addition a little larger than this one but decided to put footers and block wall down and build off of that... great job though....
That spider got han solo'd
😂😂😂😂😂
Great video and good idea using spray foam under addition
Thanks!! 🙃🙃🙃🙃
All your content is legit!! Ty
WD40 does help brake down the foams stickyness for clean up
WHat an awesome tip! Ill have to try that next time!
Im a little confused by you comments about the blue and green stuff and one not adhering to the other. Do you mean different stages of the foam curing or did you by different foams?
that's cheap for spray foam, instant sweat equity. Looks like you have about 3-4 inches of depth coverage. I live in AZ so I don't anything about r-value in your neck of the woods though. Have something similar to that here, pro spray foam est are 5-7k here.
Nice job, looks good.
Thanks! I sure am glad not to be paying Arizona summer electric bills anymore 🤣
Could you share with us the cost of the two set ups of spray foam? And what you thought of the coverage and depth you were spraying? Thanks again!! Great job !!
It cost me $1,150 delivered. It sure is expensive and large packs are not readily available. I felt like the coverage was fine, even though I never measured it. I just calculated the board foot needed for the specified r value in my area.
@@BreakFreeHomestead Thanks!
What R value where you going for? I am in Eastern Ontario, Canada.
Did you see the size of that chicken!?
Great work! Thank you for sharing this effort. So you've had some serious weather recently ... are you finding the application effective?
It's not bad, it is clearly colder than the floors over the basement. I might consider adding more in the spring. But it might also be the fact that its an open bottom.
I'm planning my addition and have gotten confidence about a pier foundation from you. I have a question tho... Did you ever consider sheathing the bottom and spraying foam from the top?
Awesome! You got this💪💪💪 I guess you could do that, you would probably use extra insulation as you would have to hit the sides of the joists completely. And make sure you cover the product from rain.
@@BreakFreeHomestead Good call on the rain I didn't think about that aspect.
Be careful your chickens will eat the foam dots that fall, and your eggs will be a bit crunchy.
😂😂😂😂
In retrospect, How about inserting a 4" rigid insulation in between those floor joist? Will that work
You could, I went with this so it was nice and closed up. Animals can get in regular insulation, and could be damaged from moisture.
Sorry if you already answered this, but how come you chose this type of foundation for the addition?
Cost. Excavation and concrete to match the existing foundation would have doubled the budget.
Did you ever cover the bottom of the joists with plywood or sheathing?
Nope
What I would like to know is were did you get the foam and is it good to keep the cold out and keep the heat in ??
Foam it green, I put links in the description and i think its 7R per inch.
Does this spray on dry? Want to spray this on a mobile home underbelly but not sure if it will ruin the osb sub floor
It dries in like 30 seconds. It’s a chemical reaction as they’re mixed when sprayed.
My hair...I know...bahahahaha ;)
Yeah that sucked. 😂
how was the cost ?
Not cheap, but cheaper than hiring someone. I put the links in the description.
