I met Billy and Billy's family yesterday when delivering the scaffolding tower, I say family, as literally everyone is like a family member, it was an absolute privilege to spend some time with everyone at the convent, Billy also gave me a guided tour, wow, wow wow, the building is huge, and seeing the work the team had done, is so impressive. I know the tower is definitely going to help you. Thank you again for the great few hours I had with you all. Thank you

@@ItsMe-yv9jd And how do you know "all of that old crumbling paint has TOXIC LEAD in it"? I believe Michael stated the ceiling paint was done in distemper, using hide glue as a binder. If this is the case chalk might have been used as a whitening rather than lead white & is thus nowhere near as toxic.

Billy! The kitchen island is amazing!! Hard work and determination, that! Can't get over how warm and inviting you've made the kitchen look! Not industrial at all as large spaces tend to look. First class!
I just knew when Michael saw the paintwork initially when installing the organ that it wouldn’t be long before a start would be made on the Ceiling etc. ☺️I am not surprised to see him up the scaffolding, he is very brave. Well Done Michael a transformation awaits us.

Thoroughly enjoyed today's video: the videography, the music, the "all hands on deck" to install the scaffolding, alternating from that to Billy in the kitchen, then back again to the chapel. We are all learning so much watching the Pethericks! Michael, I'm an old art major and it was music to my ears to hear you talk with such knowledge today about how the original paint was created. It's like a mini Art History class and you had my undivided attention. I so look forward to the ceiling project. You Petherick men are something else - starting with your dad! What a great team you have with Alex, Yannis, and the very welcome addition of Mr. Nick Moon. Love the collaboration between Nick and Michael on the Organ Project.
So much progress all around between the pipes, island, scaffolding, and the cement brick tiles. It has been a very productive day for you all. It is coming together and working out wonderfully. Well done Gentlemen and have a wonderful day
In awe of the synchronicity of Michael being a painter and a paint expert and Billy owning an abandoned convent with a ceiling to be repaired and repainted. 🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯
Every day I’m more impressed with this project and the people who are working on it. Michael’s knowledge of historical paints is impressive. And thank goodness for the internet in helping figure out what to do with the mix pipes. What a miracle that we can all share in this project from all over the world. I watch every evening from my home in Arizona - it’s so awe inspiring.
Michael, professional organist here. When all the pipes are in you will need to get a professional organ voicer to check the tuning and most importantly do the voicing. And organ voicer is a highly trained specialist who can bring out the authentic original musical voice of each rank. An impossible task for an amateur! Bonne chance!
I absolutely love the part where Michael was describing the pigment. That’s really when you are in your best element when you’re sharing your knowledge about your passion. I really look forward to seeing you repair and paint the ceiling.

Amazing it just gets better and better every day. There are truly unseen forces at work here, isn’t God amazing creating such wonderful souls. Michael is a true genius.
Hi Michael. Mixture stops can be tricky to those who are not organists. Even organists don't understand how they work. Generally, Mixtures contain unisons, fifths, and octaves. For example, the note C will play C, G and C an octave above. Some mixtures might also contain an E. Many English organs contain mixtures that have thirds in them. There are two more things you have to consider. Is your mixture a two rank mixture, [2 pipes for each note] a 3 rank, a 4 rank, or a combination, i.e. 2 ranks in the bottom octave, 3 in the second octave, and possibly 4 the rest of the way up. Mixtures very often contain "breaks." These breaks often happen around C's or F's. So, the composition of the mixture changes as you play up the keyboard. For example, if the bottom C plays CGc, the second C may break back and play Gcg. The purpose of the breaks is to make the organ have brightness and clarity in the bottom octave, without screaming in the top octaves. You may want to call your organ builder to find out how this particular mixture is laid out on this instrument. Do you have the stoplist for this organ?
So wonderful to have Micheal back on U-Tube, his talking about the paints was so interesting, saying that Nick and everyone in the whole family are outstanding.
I was an organ builder and organ tuner myself for many years. Normally you tune an organ from the 19th century according to a system (werckmeister or meantone). the notes float (wath you call wobble) a little relative to each other. But you tune a 'mixture' pure. If you want me to help you build or tune the organ, please let me know. Although I live in the Netherlands, I can come and help for a day. Billy has my emailadres
I am so excited to see and watch Michael paint the ceiling! He is so knowledgeable about painting and the arts that he will do an amazing job of it. And what would it cost to have a professional team do this? Well, Stephanie at Chateau de la Lande is having her little chapel redone and so far it's $200,000.00 for the structure repair, and then another $200,000.00 to to the ceiling. I think her ceiling is about half the size of your chapel. I hope you get video of every aspect of what Michael does. It's going to take a very long time but we are all going to watch every video!
Whilst we are watching a massively interesting renovation another one comes to fruition unexpectedly, keeping the audience on its toes, just fascinating ❤
The combination of Michael and Nick is absolutely amazing! They are both so capable and smart about all things musical and organ and so fun to watch. It’s truly like being a "fly on the ceiling" with Michael knowing all about the paint on the chapel barrel ceiling. A 21st century Michelangelo for sure. Then Billy being a jack of all trades and an exceptional organizationizer who has a handle on everything and can manage it all is really wonderful. Finally, Alex, recording and keeping all for posterity in an entertaining and creative way! Just plain WOW!!! THANK YOU!!!
Michael, please, please, please, talk to a fine art restorer about your plans. If your goal is to preserve the history of the chapel ceiling, you should use modern reversible pigments, so your changes can be undone in the future. I know that it seems like using the original paints is the right way to do it, and in the case of the ceiling, the conservator might agree, but they usually choose to go with a method that can be completely reversed, without damaging the original work.
When I visited St. Peter's Square while serving in the US Navy in the late 80s, the Sistine Chapel was close for restoration. I find it fascinating that you are doing the equavalent on your own. Such talent you've displayed in so many areas! Respect to you.
Billy the island looks absolutely lovely... You have brought it back to life... and the scaffolding is awesome! I can't wait to see that coming along. Michael is so awesome for that... I can't wait to see that get restored... the organ is really coming along too... and it sounds so lovely. And a ton of thanks to Daddy Moon for helping... he's so amazing... And Alex is doing fantastic work on the camera... and then can't leave Yannis out... or Papa Petherick... for all their wonderful help. Ooo... special delivery! Will be awesome...
Billy, what a dream team you have assembled, everyone is so professional and knowledgeable. Your production is one of the highlights of my day. Love the music so much, you could do a fundraiser with your playlist. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. It’s refreshing to see the reverence and respect you have for the convent, in these stressful times people may need a place for calm reflection and prayer, may God bless you and your family.
Chandelier! Yes? Will it be the one Edd and Anna spotted? Oh, this is so exciting. Thank you for sharing this renovation with us. This little old lady is really enjoying all that you do.
Michael, i loved hearing your thoughts on the type of paint that is on the chapel ceiling. It was also good to see the “back side” of the ceiling. Better to help us understand the type of ceiling you are working with. Thank you all for what you do and for letting your followers come along for the ride. This channel is informative and fun. I have learned so much about random things! Thank you!
Hopefully, the ceiling's support structure is sound. The level of commitment to these complex projects borders on--well, there are no words. I hope every bit bears timeless fruit. You're a very special lot.
Billy your channel is great and lovely to see your dad and the island is looking fantastic well done Michael it was so good listening to your expertise on the chapel ceiling,Alex your filming is great as always and good to have the others there working really hard.💖🌟🙏🕊💫
Well, that scaffold is definitely a pucker factor of 11 out of 10. I wouldn’t even want to be in the same room with it. Great video excited to see the ceiling restoration. Michael is the perfect person to fix the ceiling. He is a gifted artist with a beautiful heart. No doubt this ceiling will be repaired with love.❤
Nick you are so patient, a true horseman with skills that can also calm a human. Michael, I am so joyful that you will be preserving the chapel ceiling. The Organ will sing for Christmas Alex, why you film the kitchen ceiling lol Wonderful news on everything at the Convent today. Thank you ALL!
When my childhood church was built the roof was designed as a ship to remember earlier missionaries who would use their ships as roofs for their churches. This is a great example of that idea.
What a talented , knowledgeable family you are. This convent was obviously made for you because it needs your family to restore it. How Michael works up there I don't know, it made me feel ill seeing how high the scaffolding was! This has to be the best vlog to watch! ❤❤
In Stephanie's vlog she discussed the lack of investment by the French government in restoring the paintwork in more modern buildings - from the seventeenth century - so it is fitting that you tackle this project. I am sure it will be another mammoth project in which Michael is indispensable.
Greetings from Hobbitland! If no one has told you guys today, you are officially awesome!! I am so impressed with all your knowledge. What a huge undertaking getting that organ recreated. I can't believe you know what key it is by listening. And that roof! Wow! The fact you're so excited about such a mommoth job, confirms you are the perfect people to be castonians of such a special place. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. So blessed to be following your journey.
Michael never ceases to amaze me, so knowledgable in so many areas! The only thing I keep thinking about though is that now the organ will probably be in the way of the ceiling renovation.
Michael - your knowledge of history and all things cultural is awe inspiring. So good to have you back as a regular contributor to this convent project. I would really love to hear you and Billy interviewed about your life story and inspirations to do all you do.
Mick & Sherri, you two must be so very proud of how your children have turned into such kind, smart and generous human beings. I have watched from the beginning, and I've loved seeing all that they have accomplished. Being I'm a history geek and love to see both the Convent and the Chateau, all the things that they have shown us viewers...is just fantastic. Cheers to all of you and thank you for all your sharing with the world. I for one, just love all of it! Happy Advent 🎄
I’m blown away. Not only did Michael show incredible knowledge of old pigments and paint to then jump into in depth musical prowess. I mean really your a big show off Michael lol. ❤😂 Soooo excited for the ‘Spey’ delivery wink wink 😂
BILLY & Michael you two sure don’t shy away from massive jobs! I vote for a massive fundraiser to bring in a restoration company to do it. Your back will kill trying to paint like a Michael Angelo above the head!!!! and I bet he had helpers… Just want to say I have 100% faith in Michael’s artistic abilities and endurance just think it’s huge fir one person
Wow that was a busy vid! Organ, chapel ceiling, roof, scaffolding, kitchen, stable yard - what a Monday! Brilliant filming Alex - hope you’re on danger money
I’m so happy that you’re working on the Chapel ceiling. Truly a restoration gem. I’d be more than happy to help fund that project l. Just let me know how / where. Michael and Nick … your craftsmanship is so impressive! Billy .. thanks for coordinating the whole thing. Your leadership is critical.
Michael-I have read that you can protect the gilt-painted areas with a sealer. I read online that you can use a varnish "such as Golden MSA with UVLs". If you're going to the effort and expense of preserving the chapel, you may want to look into ways to seal and protect the gilded areas.
OH Michael your such an asset to your family; and us for that matter! First the organ, then the story and prints to fund raise; then the talent to paint. You are a POLYMATE! Love you guy's! ❤
All the excitement today, all the work going on, the scaffolding, the chapel ceiling, the organ pipes, the huge island getting sealed, repurposing the walking path concrete squares getting repurposed, and the lovely video from Alex. I get tired just watching everything going on, LOL😂 It takes a village, but in this case it takes a team, and you are all brilliant! The knowledge Michael has about paint, art, music is incredible and Nick solving the mystery of those pipes with such patience, wow! There is just no end to the genius of this team.
Yannis really seems to have no fear! So happy you’re using scaffolding, what a big job. Fantastic that Nick and Michael deciphered all those mixed pipes….complicated simplicity 😉 Billy it’s definitely better safe than sorry, no one wants footprints on the kitchen counter 😊 it’s looking so good Can’t wait to see the stable pathway completed, it’s so mucky atm. Thank you Mick for all you do❤
Thrilled that the ceiling is being restored with historical accuracy! Very concerned that it would continue to disintegrate- what an amazing restoration- can’t wait!!
💕 it’s very pleasing to hear that you’re going to Hoover, the dust from above the vaulted chapel ceiling before you begin any of the repairs & painting💕
Michael, you are incredibly amazing!! When I first saw the chapel ceiling, I thought it would be marvelous if you could restore the ceiling and I’m thrilled to see you will be working on it. With your talent, it will turn out magnificent. And let’s not forget about Billy, the master of the domain. He started this whole process with the convent and his vision will be fulfilled by the completion of the chapel. So as they say in France, Crack On.
I love to hear Michael talking his knowledge is phenomenal on whatever they need to know.. Everyone is working so hard and doing their bit, Billy & Michael's mum and dad must be so proud of their boys, I know I would x
I don't think any other team of people could restore/renovate the Convent with more love than you guys. You and Nick have such a wide range of knowledge and experience. Amazing team.
This was totally fascinating video! Kudos to Alex for doing the video at those heights. The information was prenominal. The "Osmocoat'ing" looks fabulous on that kitchen island. And Michael, your willingness to do the research and learn to move forward is so cool and I thank you. Nick, you are a born decipherer, thank you for your contributions. Your calm demeanor reminds me of Simon's. I look forward to tomorrow's surprise. 😉

You are so knowledgeable with sourcing your pigments and steps for recreating your paint! So looking forward to watching the process. Take your time and enjoy your journey!

Hey guys, let me start by saying, Michael your knowledge of everything never ceases to amaze me. You are brilliant. Nick you as well helping to put this massive organ back together, your knowledge of this is amazing, you two are the team to get this job done. Billy the kitchen is looking so beautiful, renovated to function in the 21st century, while keeping the integrity of the building's era in design. Yanis and Mick round out this perfect team. Well done everyone.

Only a few more weeks to a month and then Simon will be back! Cannot wait to see him teaching Yanis and expanding our knowledge about his arts!
Completely agree!
Yay! Week 5! So excited to see the organ still coming together... can't wait to hear Michael playing it on Christmas Eve!
Michael never ceases to impress with his knowledge. Also he seems to be enjoying the convent renovation.
Even in a very unfinished state the Chapel has become resplendent… thanks to the organ! It will be totally glorious I’m sure!! Well done all!!
The skills of this entire family and their friends, just make the most beautiful tapestry! If you see it, you can’t unsee it 👏🥰😍
Chandelier! Yes? Will it be the one Edd and Anna spotted? Oh, this is so exciting. Thank you for sharing this renovation with us. This little old lady is really enjoying all that you do.
All I can think of with Michael on the scaffolding is Michael-Angelo! Painting on the ceiling! What an amazing project!
I didn’t know about missionaries recycling the ships hulls to serve as a roof for their chapels? Fascinating!
What a talented , knowledgeable family you are. This convent was obviously made for you because it needs your family to restore it. How Michael works up there I don't know, it made me feel ill seeing how high the scaffolding was! This has to be the best vlog to watch! ❤❤
So exciting about the ceiling restoration! Thanks to everyone who bought prints so Michael can start!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Watching Nick & Yanis assembling the scaffolding, oh boy, you guysl
Michael, you and Nick have extraordinary skills for the organ restoration and then add your knowledge of paint Reno ahead is mind boggling.
Soooo excited for the ‘Spey’ delivery wink wink 😂
Michael your talents are beyond astounding! ‘We just need to do this and that’s the job done’. The sign of a truly skilled person!
Will support whatever they decide
Wow that was a busy vid! Organ, chapel ceiling, roof, scaffolding, kitchen, stable yard - what a Monday! Brilliant filming Alex - hope you’re on danger money
Billy - the island looks pretty! Better than I expected ❣️👏🏻 Michael & Nick good job!
👏🏻🎄🎹🎄🎹🎄🎹🎄
I’m so happy that you’re working on the Chapel ceiling. Truly a restoration gem. I’d be more than happy to help fund that project l. Just let me know how / where. Michael and Nick … your craftsmanship is so impressive! Billy .. thanks for coordinating the whole thing. Your leadership is critical.
Look in the description, there is a link to help the chapel restoration. God bless you all.
@@reladie Thanks. I wasn’t clear enough .. I don’t need a print. (Already bought one.). Just looking for a way to straight up donate.
I love the videos and Nick is an angel for staying so calm when Michael frequently cuts him off mid-speech out of excitement.
Michael-I have read that you can protect the gilt-painted areas with a sealer. I read online that you can use a varnish "such as Golden MSA with UVLs". If you're going to the effort and expense of preserving the chapel, you may want to look into ways to seal and protect the gilded areas.
Michaelangelo for the 21st century!
OH Michael your such an asset to your family; and us for that matter!
First the organ, then the story and prints to fund raise; then the talent to paint.
You are a POLYMATE!
Love you guy's! ❤
Wonderful work guys, now we have a bigger respect for the old technology but a great deal of respect for people that tune and know about these organs!
So happy to see Michael back demonstrating his skills!❤
All the excitement today, all the work going on, the scaffolding, the chapel ceiling, the organ pipes, the huge island getting sealed, repurposing the walking path concrete squares getting repurposed, and the lovely video from Alex.
I get tired just watching everything going on, LOL😂
It takes a village, but in this case it takes a team, and you are all brilliant! The knowledge Michael has about paint, art, music is incredible and Nick solving the mystery of those pipes with such patience, wow! There is just no end to the genius of this team.
Yannis really seems to have no fear! So happy you’re using scaffolding, what a big job.
Fantastic that Nick and Michael deciphered all those mixed pipes….complicated simplicity 😉
Billy it’s definitely better safe than sorry, no one wants footprints on the kitchen counter 😊 it’s looking so good
Can’t wait to see the stable pathway completed, it’s so mucky atm.
Yannis and you Dad are wonderful. Such assets to the convent chateau family.
Mick to the rescue ❤. Michael your painting 🎨 skills are amazing you guys are all doing such a great job 👍.
Long time viewer- first time commenting….as a retired. Decorative Artist, I am so keen on watching you start on the beautiful ceiling! Makes me wish I could come and help you! You are so knowledgeable with sourcing your pigments and steps for recreating your paint! So looking forward to watching the process. Take your time and enjoy your journey!
I was lost after the first sentence about the organ pipes thank goodness Michael and Nick have fathomed out how to set up and tune the organ! Also Michael’s knowledge about distemper, glue and hues etc is very impressive!
So glad for refreshing those paintings in the chapel. It worth it! It's going to be so magnificent ❤️ Bravo!
Whilst I appreciate the skill and work involved I'll be glad when the organ is finished!! Nicola
Mick you are one resourceful handy man and a wonderful Tudor to Yanis!
The ceiling repair is going to be fascinating to watch. I’m amazed at Michael’s knowledge and talents. It’s always a pleasure to catch up with everything going on with this channel. Bravo!!
The concept of hand mixing the paint to the original specifications is amazing. Preserving the chapel in this was should be recognised and rewarded.
Michael has a huge job ahead of him. You are lucky to have him for this job.
I love when your parents help and we get to know them a little better
