This song was playing in my grandfather's house the day he killed a man in my presence.. I was 9 years old. For some reason this song does not take me to a bad place

just excelent, the music whit saxos, are sweet, and trombons, stay there in company of saxons, the main trumpet are delicius, and the "tenosr saxo" broke the sweet song for 2 seconds, but after go in very " elegance", sound.
amazing song amazing orchest.... congrats :-)

That is actually the 1st Trumpet player. 1st chair players are usually in the middle in jazz band.

@@justinchin3366 Yepyep if there's 5 trumpets the lead will be in the middle but with 4 the lead stands one from the left if you're facing the stage. Different than classical ensembles where first-chair sits at the head of the section. Although no reason some groups couldn't change it up. Fantastic music:) One of my favorite songs. The Denon recording has one of my favorite trumpet solos ever.

He's the band director, he gives signals to the the band for example when they need to do a crescendo or decrescendo

Good band. Good players. But it just doesn't hold a candle to say the early 60's Basie Band.

I don't support a director wiggling around in front of a big band....some shake thier butts in front of the audience , wave their arms around like they are on fire, etc.....that being said the band sounds v good, nice feel for a song that is often played to square, less swinging....fun solos 😎

Glad to hear a band still doing classic old charts like this. Overall, it's decent, but sounds a tad like they mailed it in. Listen to how Basie did it. Slow the tempo slightly, and for heaven's sake, HOLD BACK. You want to be behind the beat, and you need to tighten things up. There' are some quarter notes near the end that need to be shorter and tighter. As for the mix - grossly lacking in the low end. The poor bass player must be pissed. All that aside, pretty good, and thanks for playing a classic chart. Yes, I know, I'm being picky.

These guys swing. Very cool. The conductor needs to sit down. The arm waiving and gyrating is off-putting. Think about the contrast: Basie - mr cool vs this guy - mr flail. Sounds great though.

I downloaded this to play to it.....WHAT IS GOING ON ??? While playing to this, I felt it getting slower and slower then rubber banding in tempo..................Piano intro=146 BPM.............Drums enter @ 144 BPM..................Tpt solo=139 BPM down to 136 BPM by end of solo..............Sax solo=135 BPM...........Ensemble=134 BPM........... Shout chorus=137 BPM.......Piano 6 bars to shout chorus to end=134 BPM....................Should we expect better from NY Jazzharmonic ???
