THIS BIG BAND IS ONE OF THE BEST. I'VE ALWAYS LOVED COUNT BASSIE'S MUSIC AND THIS IS NO EXCEPTION. CHARLY ANTOLINI IS JUST THE GREATEST DRUMMER OF ALL TIME. HE IS SO ENTERTAINING WHEN HE PLAYS HIS DRUM. YOU CAN JUST TELL THIS IS NOT WORK FOR HIM, BUT SHEER JOY! WHAT A GREAT SOUND. CHEERS TO ALL THE PLAYERS ON THIS C/D. SYLVIA-FL 7/1/21

Charley is one of the best. Mr Wolf & his band will be with us for a long long time.
I would rather watch this than a hundred videos of Buddy Rich. The subtlety of Charley, Joe Morello, Jeff Hamilton and so many more are what makes this music so great. Charley can do all of the "Buddy stuff" but he keeps it real by not overpowering the orchestra. I keep watching this over and over.
I saw the Count Basie Orchestra live. One of my all time top gigs. Thilo and his band do a fantastic job to revive my memories of that great night! Thank you.

Fabulous - Love it. One of the best swing bands around. And Charly on Drums WOW ! What a great technique - The Best !! Also Top Notch Video Production - Hand Held team was great - intercut with wide shots caught all the 'feel' and action - I say this as a Drummer and a TV Director - Great Job All

This is true. Europe is where jazz I think it has something to do with The Great Classical Masters and an audience that appreciates Classical music as well as Jazz. They both compliment each other.This is not so in The States.

Love Charlie and the band. Bought this by Bill Basie over 60 years ago on an LP with my first record player. The other one I bought was an all brass LP called Satin Brass by George Shearing, both still in perfect condition. Anyone remember hearing stereo for the first time. I did over headphones, was amazing. Seems nothing is amazing these days.
Amazing! This is an amazing group of musicians. This brings back memories of my high school years. I was a bass trombonist for the Ferris High School's Jazz Orchestra from 2009 to 2011. We performed this tune.

You're absolutely right 👍🏼, Charly is a phenomenon ! I'm a drummer myself and I love him playing. Saw him several times decades ago in my hometown Bremerhaven and in Hamburg. Been always amazed, he always leaves me speechless - such a great drummer! I'm never tired to watch him here at You Tube as well!

Charly is the only drummer i've seen that lifts his left hand off the snare drum on hoop beats. He also reverses the left stick and plays with the butt end instead of the tip. Everyone has thier own style and what is comfortable for them, Charly is one of the greatest drummers of all time, love his playing.

@@DYNODRUM Yes, I didn't know there was any other way. For myself, reversing the stick and using the butt actually allows a lighter, deeper sound on the tom - not to mention that is so natural to reverse between beats for the snare rim beats with the butt end on the hoop which gives a slightly deeper "click". I play a lot of dinner music and this method is so much gentler. If you want an even softer "click" while keeping the deeper sound, add a small patch of moleskin on the rim where the stick hits.
