Although the channel itself is devoted as much to entertaining as well as informing its viewers, it’s not uncommon for commenters to share little factoids as she has done here when there are instances of things having been overlooked or misrepresented either in the video or in the comments, and it’s all usually in a friendly, non-judgmental spirit. I’m pleased to see the commenter didn’t bother replying to your nasty, unnecessary little sideswipe - I’m sure she doesn’t need a white knight to swoop in to defend her, either - but you need calling out on your nobbery, mate. There’s no hint in her comment that she’s trying to score points, just correcting the record and getting the facts straight in the comments section of a video from a channel all about fun little bits of unusual general knowledge and storytelling. People watching this channel love the stories, but they must enjoy expanding their knowledge base, too. Find somewhere else to do your trolling or switch to decaff, you miserable, rude git.

The first financial collapse of the nature described was actually in (if I remember the date correctly) 17th century Netherlands. The tulip bulb disaster (not the actual name of it, but the subject matter). For some reason, selling shares (or stocks - I don't know the difference) in tulips had taken off to the point where once poor people were able to buy mansions on the strength of what were, essentially, worthless promissory notes. Until, that is, someone actually questioned the whole affair, and virtually overnight, the stock market crashed. It's a fascinating story, one definitely worth looking into!

I can imagine the same principle of value used for the Tulips is what we see today with NFTs. Technically (the majority but not all) invaluable but a large enough sway on public opinion to give it enough liquidity to justify the price; which only rises as more talk about it and the fear of missing out grows.
This ain’t a dig at NFTs, just drawing similarities between the mindsets that often rhymes throughout history.

You are inadvertently pointing out the weakness of the American Educational system since 1950. Teachers used to have the flexibility to teach as Thoughty2 or "NileRed" in chemistry. Sadly though, they are told how to teach now, so they can't think up ways to excel. Standardized state testing has gone too far. Used to be that you had the excellent schools, and the bad ones, and flexibility to move your children between them.

It is easy to imagine people getting caught up in something like this, given the lack of communication methods in those days which of course McGregor used to his advantage. One has to give him credit for such a brilliant marketing ploy and such amazing imagination. One imagines if he had lived in this time, he would be a billionaire. I would love to hear what happened to the survivors of Poyais. Did some of them settle in Honduras or did they restart their life in Britain? Maybe their future generations can tell the tales of how their great great grandparents were tricked into this diabolical plan.

On the background of what is happening in Ukraine today, I think this video is showing something very important - that those, who promise good life in new lands in emigration, are often not those who are believing it... Many NGO activists even in my country, Bulgaria, say, that Ukrainians are going to be well, once they have emigrated to the EU during this Russian war, but is it really going to be well, I just wonder about this!
