Sure. But then China? China has had more population than India till last year and even they have a higher GDP per capita than India. They are more financially decentralized and have much more growth oriented policies. It is something India should try to emulate. India mostly has redistributive policies.

Singapore and Israel are small countries whose Govts can focus more on their fields, but India is too big, i believe each state of India is like an European country, for example Kerala cant focus on manufacturing but focusses on tourism, healthcare and education; Tamil Nadu focuses on manufacturing. Each state of India has its own strength and each of them need to identify themselves. We are so big that all 29 states wont think the same way or can they work in a particular direction prescribed by New Delhi like China works. If each state discovers and realise their own potentials, we will not just beat China but the entire western world including EU and USA.

The big difference between India and countries like China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore - the people and culture here, they are hard working, more disciplined, finance oriented, less religious and racial or cast conscious. So the people must change first, this is unlikely to happen in India in the near future. Forget about India becoming an economic power. It can and is a storehouse of religion and the world will look up to India in this category.

Singapore with per capita income of 82500 (more than even USA now) is only possible for small country with population of 55 lakhs or the way Ireland did by becoming tax haven for global corporation headquarters for rest of the world (including Apple) richest country in the world today (population 50 lakhs) next only to Luxemberg (tax haven for decades with population of 6.5 lakhs).

India ' s economy is improving but in terms of human development index, happiness index and many index India is far behind and GDP per capita income is very low that's why we say that
India is growing to become rich country we Indians people are very poor
India cannot become developed and rich country
And we Indians population can't become rich
Because of Britishers who looted 45 trillion dollars wealth from India
      They destroyed and looted everything
      Before independence
India was the richest country and net exporter and trade surplus country
And there was very less unemployment and very less poverty rate
And around 70 to 80 % indians was rich
Due to this , suicide case was very very less
      And debt free country
      But when Britishers annexed india
      It has become reversed everything
Poverty and unemployment is very high
Due to this, students are doing suicide due to fear
India is suffer economy crisis since independence
      And
India now become" gareebo ki chidiya " not " sone ki chidiya"
If we want to make india a golden bird again just like conditions before Britishers
Then UK MUST return back our 45 trillion dollars wealth to india now
Then we can become developed country
It is beneficial only if India's money comes back, otherwise no matter how hard you try, India will not move forward or become developed country
      Ask any economist
They are 100 percent sure that india cant become developed country now
Whether India goes ahead after 50 years or after 100 years, India will remain poor untill and unless UK return 45 trillion dollars wealth to india
And india 's literacy rate is very low
Education and health sector in india is very poor
it's too late now. India should have got independence 100 years before 1947 means india should got independence around 1847 or may be before so that we can save money and resources
      but nothing can happen now😐

    1. The population of these countries (Singapore, Israel) were low as compared to India.
    2. Survival was important, e.g., Israel. Entire families were dedicated to put value to the economy.

States can individually focus on their competitive advantages and then devise a combined strategy to reach our growth goals. It is extremely difficult to manage a large country like India based on the models of smaller countries like Singapore and Israel. Additionally, we need to give equal respect to people working in different sectors and refrain from passing judgement based on the work a person does, as every small contribution in all sectors is responsible for the collective development of a country. As Indians, we need to help our fellow citizens reach their highest potential.

Bangladesh exports has protection from tariffs whereas Indian textile has to go through tariffs in EU ...
China exploited Hongkong FTA to register company in hong kong and
Export to USA with super low tariffs ... that's why hong kong became a financial hub as all office work of Chinese and American companies is being done there...
Whereas we were being punished for being in USSR block after Manmohan Singh 10+ visits and then PM Modi 8+ visit to USA we are now paving the way to exploit capitalism... That to partially still... because the USA won't give FTA now to us...

Good point u made here and also provided an ironical solution.
Today Indias population can be its biggest asset or liability. Like the "poor" people. For them the number of working hands is an asset whereas for a rich person the number of children will become a liability as they will divide his assets.
Aaushi made a valid point that the youth can't be left unemployed.
The biggest challenge would be to find a solution for utilising the largest population in the world in a way that everyone gains. What akshat is proposing would finally result in large income disparity and that can lead to not a good situation for a country.

Around 20% of the population lives in poverty, income inequality is high, and basic needs like clean water, healthcare, and education are challenging to access, especially in rural areas. What truly matters is ensuring that every single citizen in India, all 100% of the population, has access to their basic needs like food, water, healthcare, and education. This would bring happiness because it means that nobody is left behind and everyone has a fair chance at a good life. This channel has an unbiased review of the economy. Unlike most others who won't even dare to point out the real scenario. It is indeed true that India is now the 5th largest economy but the disparity amongst its citizens is beyond comparable. Some are eating luxury meals with a golden spoon while some don't even have one proper meal a day. It is true that everyone can't be rich but the government should see that the basic needs are met, especially those who are living in poverty. If the government wants it can provide free food, shelter, education and jobs for at least one generation so that they can make their next generation better & the cycle goes on... instead of the recent reservation scenario. Then some day every citizen will have a better life & there will be no discrimination too.

Both are valid, and in a country as big as India we need to focus on both simultaneously. Generate employment and innovate.

Of all the discussion I feel somehow comparison with Singapore or Israel is like comparing apples and oranges. The major differences are population apart from geopolitics, stable internal govt and resources which were not in favor of India until now. Even in current circumstances there are some issues which we need to fix quickly. We don't know how the future looks as well.

India has a diffent issues at hand which are unique in nature:
    1) reservation quota system : any country where nepotism, caste, religion etc are given preference over merit, can NEVER succeed.
    2) The diversity of India, though sounds amazing in theory, but is the root cause. People in India can never agree to all speak in one common language. This will always create a divide and information sharing will always be an issue. Effective communication is quintessential for success !
    3) The so called Democracy in India is also never going to help it become a super power / successful. A simple ex is road constructions take 10/20 yrs or even longer time frame just because land acquisition can never happen. Talk to people from Pune (West Wakad or East Charoli)
    food for thought !

This entire conversation is good for discussion but then India have it's own problems like
    1. Caste based reservation which undermine the merit and ultimately hampers (meager) government investments in R&D which needs nothing but sheer talent
    2. Due to lack of OR snatching of at par oppurtunities, talent will move out of India so forget about number of innovation hubs. There may be few but again really few driven by very very few really motivated individuals or companies with self ecenomic interests
    3. Rich makes money and flees out of India
    4. Whatever is leftover will be eaten by so callled government freebies
In conclusion, India's growth is not sustainable unless it address above issues

Great points. But no need for despair. The key is Perform Good on your own.
China had huge brain-drain at the beginning of the The opening from 1980s all the way to 2010. But when China developed, many of these people came back for the opportunities in China and brought with them the advanced knowledge of the world.
China's Rich also hide their wealth in the West, but as long as it is much easier for them to make money in China, they will operate in China.
China's corruption was also legendary before Xi's period. But as long as they were mainly sharing the fruit of the development as a partial owner vs suffocating the development as Bureaucrats, then the Development is still happening.
China does not have Caste System, this is one cleaning advantage of China vs India.
But the Key is Still Doing a good job for your own business, others will fall into places.
As Kishore Mahbubani Said correctly: Indian outside India proves without a doubt Indian are super-smart and successfully. India should have the confidence to open its door and let the world competition forces India to advance just like China Did 5 decades ago.

So, if only India can focus on better policies, that will help improve. If any member of any minority community feels insecure, they are victim of propaganda, and hence, they have started hating their own ancient dharmic tradition. Besides, no govt has done enuf to remind the so-called minorities of india abt their own ethnicity and dharmic culture.

And u will see most employee who work their are either relatives of them or up, bihari and Bangladeshis. They hire rhem cuz they work in cheap salaries. hence in mumbai slum population is increasing and now uts upto 55%. Where 40% Bangladeshis, 28% up and bihair and 15% south indians living. Becuz of cheap laboroures all local people whether rhey are marathi or gujju, marwari or sindhi or parsi who were living since mumbai formed are either have to choose white collar jobs, do business or go abroad. Businessman are main problem of this country. Cuz they dont share high salary to employees. Second problem is overpopulation done by up, bihari and peaceful community. In mumbai slums and especially in bihari and Bangladeshis area u will see parents having 3-4 kids.

I believe low end manufacturing is essential to bridge the income gap over the medium term but the long term game has to be focused on broader access to education at the same time enriching it so that we can transition into an innovation based economy. One thing to note is that manufacturing at scale required massive allocation of budget (to develop the infrastructure) and productivity to enable ease of doing business, which is again a major challenge in India. This also needs to be done keeping in mind modern technologies to ensure sustainability of these manufacturing infras since we need to make sure we meet our climate goals as well. All in all, if one were to choose one area then its definitely more logical to focus on the long game but at the same time i do not think there is any constraint to having more than one goal. This is something Raghuram Rajan has also spoken about in a recent speech. Worth checking it out.

    1. India should focus on sectors like green energy, green hydrogen, green ammonia. In my opinion this is going to game changer. As this sector is going to be new oil. This can be good for politicians as well bcs this can improve farmers income as well and later improve large scale productivity.
    2. Our Indian Railways should go on start developing railway networks in less developed African nations because this will increase project inflow to India and also quality of engineering will increase bcs African terrains are much more complex.
    3. India should not compete on the sides as Akshad explained cost cutting is not going to improve india.

So the services export by India might go down because companies in developed economies can invest in AI and negate the dependence on services import from other countries. Example services export from India in terms of customer service and tech support. And also in terms of coding and software development.

India is growing to become rich country we Indians people are very poor
India cannot become developed and rich country

Because of Britishers who looted 45 trillion dollars wealth from India

I feel, we should contextualise the topic based on Indian scenario. Our biggest benefit is also the biggest challenge. Population. Basically India can get richer , sustainably only when per capita GDP grows. For that three very important priorities should be
    1. Skill/ unskill people
    2. In immediate term, focus on sectors which can leverage semi-skilled /unskilled workforce
    3. In long term, focus on skilling/upskilling its manpower on innovative and differentiated sectors / trades.
For all this a clear policy for atleast 10-20 years should be framed. It's important we fuel growth in current context of opportunities as well as keep building our strength from a long term sustainable standpoint.

Once our per capita increases to an even level our GDP will be very massive due to the population. We need to ensure there is opportunity for everyone and we are on the way. Per capita is far away now, but started moving forward. Thanks to massive initiatives by the current government. We may need another 5 years to see drastic changes. Infrastructure and foundation is laid out well. Private sector will massively build on that - which will be non linear.

Key point which could settle the debate on - whether to focus on low end or high end manufacturing is - 'labour productivity and continual training'. Low end manufacturing create mass employment of low-skill workers and create a kind of status-quo with no improvement. High end manufacturing requires very high skill which only few in country like India afford to aquire through costly high education and post-education skill trainings. What Indian government can do is initiate a goverment funded large scale national program for training and skilling which can accessed for FREE by all compnies alike - micro, small, medium or large to improve productivity of their manpower. Indian government can hire industrial skilling services companies from Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Korea, US, France etc. to be a part of this free national program for industrial labour training and skilling. If one can take example of textiles, what it can do is start a revolution of custom-manufacturing on very large scale instead of dichotomy between low margin, low value-added mass products or highly specialized, high cost luxury products. If India focus only on innovation in services sector, then in absence of meaningful action on 'labour productivity', manufacturing can't keep up. Also it will stop flight to abroad of not just highly educated but even semi skilled people which is the trend we see growingly in India. Highly enterprising and hard working people emigrating to other countries is majorly the outcome of lack of 'labour productivity'. Both - investors (owners of companies) and semi skilled workers these companies employ are not happy. Root cause is same - low labour productivity reduce absolute profit and growth of organisations. Employers are not happy with low productivity of its labour and is unable to invest in costly training program for its workforce. Result is low profit entails low wages. Low wages and no career growth in turn makes workers unhappy who too think of emigrating to countries where they could improve their work outcome and overall life.

Also in the opening segment Ayushy raised a very significant statistic about India’s per Capita Income. Finally, there is no way we can compare ourselves anyway with Singapore or try to emulate them. Our culture is so complex that this in itself is a barrier to our growth. Nations that are homogeneous are at an advantage. And instead of try to unite us the present dispensation is busy in destroying our plurality.
