I take it things got complicated. These videos are never long enough. Always impressed with your work!
Agreed. I'd be happy watching for hour's but that doesn't please the youtube algorithms. I'm also desperate for a Land Rover restoration update
@@TheLoxxxton I suspect there will be no work done on the Series Landy until the "totally-not-a-project-vehicle-because-it's-going-to-be-my-daily-driver" Discovery is completed.
im so impressed you can still daily drive this non-project with no doors, seats or dashboard. Repairs awesome Geoff, very enjoyable to watch!
Ahh yes... part 5 of the "not a project, it's my daily driver" project. Excellent!
I love that this vehicle wasn't meant to be a project. Thank you for sharing this with us all - Best of luck, mate.
Geoffrey, nice work there Sir, impressive. I was all set to buckle in for a full hour, but 33 minutes will also do. Thanks for sharing the trials and tribulations with us all. Stay Safe & Cheers!
Thanks John
@@CROKERvsRover You do some amazing work, on a slanted driveway, in the rain, that needs to be acknowledged.. Cheers!
humor..editing..special effects..content...not many do it better than you Mate..
Well those 34 minutes went by in a flash .. felt like 3.4 minutes!
Great work!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
That's quite the rust sandwich...
Lovely repairs as always! Make me realise I need to get cracking on my projects.
Geoffrey, your videos are never long enough. The combination of determination, skill and your excellent sense of humour make we want more, more, MORE! Very nice work in this one - thanks for sharing!
I still have an hour until work finishes, that won't happen fast enough! Thanks for the amazing mix of repairs, humour and narration. If only all the other channels could be the same, but I guess there is always some standouts! Cheers from Aus!
You are a hidden gem of UA-cam. Love the work, craftmanship and most of all the humor. I wouldnt even mind watching longer videos from you.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've been waiting for it for 3 months. thank you.
17:47 protip, so you don't have to think things too much. Make your repair piece just big enough that it overlaps the existing metal by one mm in the areas where you can (won't be possible everywhere). Then tack the piece on all sides so that it's "part" of the car, just a tack or two per line should suffice, enough to keep it in place when you weld stuff. Then, using a slit disc, slice along that mm line and thus establish a perfect 1 mm line across the whole gap. Tack it in place properly, continue to the next line, rinse and repeat.
You'll have perfect fitment, and perfect gaps for welding. Like i said, some spots can't be done this way, but for the places where you can... this is a superior method. So much less hassle dealing with proper gapping and stuff like that. Just slap it on, cut, weld.
The overlap can be bigger than 1 mm, but there's not much reason to, and the 1 mm will give you a good reference line where to cut, because you're cutting both the parent metal and the repair.
Caveat, some metal may remain behind, but that's dependent on what that overlap is. If it's as small as possible, mere slivers remain. Usually, the 1 mm is good for places you can't reach behind to retrieve the dead material. I've been doing this for a while now after catching this trick from "Halfass Kustoms" and it's really, really good. I think my repair time has gone down by 30 minutes on average (since most of my cuts are accessible from behind, i don't bother with the 1 mm, i just slap a piece on top, and cut).
my mind is blown. I'm going to start practicing doing this
Every time I see an old Disco tootling around that looks like the one my mother had when I was a kid, I think "Man that's in great shape, it'd be nice to have one of those." And then a few days later, inevitably, you release a video and bring me back down to terra firma.
🤣
Same here 😅 sinking feeling of hopelessness when those cutout pieces were removed. 😆
Waking up to a Geoffrey posted a video notification, doesn't get much better than that. Thanks for your uploads fella, always enjoy them.
Another episode! What a great way to spend a Sunday evening!!!!!
Glad to see you back again with the Not-A-Project!
You are not timid to tackle what needs to be done. There's many layers being uncovered to get to the root of your repairs. Nicely done can't wait for the next installment. Thanks for impressive video.
Its name is fitting, as you're Discovery-ing all these issues to be fixed!
Great work & patience as always Mr Croker 🙂
Neat job on what appears to be an unnecessarily complex pillar - so many layers, nooks and crannies! Cheers
I love how this wasn’t supposed to be a project and it quickly become a project. Watching you work definitely inspires me to keep working on my 67 Mercury Cougar all the way over her in Missouri, USA!! Keep it up!
Awesome video Geoff and right decision made on the inner piece. Have to say I’m really enjoying these more frequent semi-annual videos too.
If only you did this full time and UA-cam paid you to entertain!!!! Bloody hell.. keep them coming!
A nod becomes a grin, which turns into a smile. Then a chuckle, followed by a laugh. That's what's been happening over the past 5 videos watching this "not a project" vehicle gradually turn into just that.
(I never said I didn't understand.......)
LOL. So self-deprecating. You do great work. I always get excited when I see the new video hit. Cheers mate!
Got so excited when I saw my favourite land rover guy made a new video!
The definition of Discovery is expanded in every episode......... 👍👍😎👍👍
Looks like the cyclone got into it! The mean machine! You crack me up bro.
Best way to wake up, is to a Croker video!
Super impressed. I share your frustration with rust in nasty places.
Outstanding work, Geoff.
Option 1 - leave it as it is…. Who are you kidding? 😂 I admire your determination given the surprises in its condition and the weather and location difficulties. The result is vastly better than most professionals would achieve.
One thing I can say: You, sir, are a dedicated Land Rover Enthusiast.
Your videos are never too long !
If I could like it twice I would.
😀I love the way you offer up the dustpan @10'35" - Like you were ever going to use it! 😀
😅
Also, new camera lens after dusting with compressed air.
Geoff, I love how you combine "let's make it properly" with "meh".
A new Croker vid! Time to get the beer out!
🍻
Always a treat watching, sipping a couple cold ones.
Getting motivated to cut open my car.
No- not really, but great fun watching you do it.
😊
Don't worry, I'm sure the driver's side is also "rust free". Looking forward to watching you rebuild the entire car from sheet metal 😅
He's working on the drivers side... Oh, wait. Australia....
...or New Zealand, maybe?
loving this video series of this project that isn't supposed to be a project, keep up the great work.
Just running repairs
I love multi part series of rust repair on «non project cars»
I mean,... what did you expect? The day someone cuts up their pillars and finds pristine metal is the day the experiment is over and the plug is pulled. A big sign in the sky will say "Press reset for next session.".
I’m really keen to see more of the series 3. Love the videos mate! Keep them up!
My series 3 and your videos have made me more eager to bust into my own restoration… lol with a dash of f**k moments haha keep all the videos up mate!!
Jeeze i love these videos. Amazingly well put together and the quality of work is top notch. Always hanging on the next one.
Great channel mate loving the disco project. I have a 93 disco and range rover classic 93 also I have also done extensive repairs like yourself and still find it fascinating to watch someone else do Repairs I have done .only difference is here in England there even more rusty 👍
Yeah, I don't think this one is too bad. The rust is only in three bad spots where water has leaked through. It's not like the whole thing is rotted out.
Keep them coming Geoff! Very entertaining. Could watch your work for hours! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the content Geoff. You made a complicated job look simple. Regards Don
Always a great day when there is a new Croker vs Rover.
You are a amazing, in the most entertaining way. Thank you for these videos. I would take one of these videos each week!
Thank you dear lord, for a new GC video has been released. Might comment again after watching... 🥳
Perseverance will pay off!
I have a feeling you’re lulling us into to a false sense of something! Do we dare believe the the drivers side is worse? can’t wait for the next vid
I gave my son a 200tdi Disco. Told him to call it Lazarus when he got it back on the road. Eventually it ended up being recycled as we lost the barn.
You've got a good one 😂
Great video 👍
It's a big world and there is lots of rust. Pace yourself, Croker😀
Most entertaining. You are a brave man.
Wow, that was intense you are a champ well done!!!!
BTW: your vids are never to long.
Wow, 22% like:view ratio seems high.
Glad to see people enjoy your videos as much as I do
I love the doom-laden music. Really adds to the suspense!
Always a treat ……look forward to each episode, excellent.
Superbe travail , bravo !
"Be Seeing You" ! 👌
N°6
The Discovery living up to its name
Gooday buddy. A well worthwhile video to watch 😊 Love your humour as you explain things. Brilliant 🤩🏴
Other than the floors, the A pillars, the [insert next rotten part here].... It's all original matey. One careful owner (5 lunatics....) - Seriously loving this series though. You go through the pain so we don't have to 🤣
Vs Rover is so apt. I admire your tenacity.
Your Disco project is coming along nicely, thanks for the update.
Really impressed with your work, keep em coming.
I'm looking forward to a revisit in 6 or 8 years where we get to see what's left of the disco by then. My money is on a rusty engine block and the bits that have featured in this series!
Oh yay it's Geoff! :D
👋
MIGHTY WORK MIGHTY VIDEO
I love your videos, laughing when I should be crying with you 😂. Can't wait for the next in this gripping series
Methodododododical!
As a Land Rover owner I know small repairs don’t actually exist…
Simple repairs can become ‘weldfests’ in a short time.
they are a discovery all right lol .
PIA for rust rust repairs, I avoid discovery models in preference for early range rovers, early 4 door range rovers can be found cheap and clean enough along with donor vehicle or parts for fairly easy revamp path and with a decent diesel they can be made into practical and very capable daily 4x4 .
You the right man to sort this one but it fair chunk of awkward work to get worthwhile job done .
I really appreciate the way that you share your thought process as you go through your repairs! You would have made an awesome teacher. (Unless you are one! : ) ) In Canada we have Rust Check or Krown Rust coating which is sprayed in vehicle cavities and on the undersides of vehicles to counter the salt from winter roads. I cant help but think that Rovers would have benefitted from this from the beginning! Cheers!
I'm so glad this Disco isn't turning into a huge project like you were worried about.
I'd like to say I admire your patience for this project, but for all I know, you are already losing all patience for it with each new lovely rust patch. Regardless, the end result of all these patches is impressive, and I like that you share your thought process for not replacing that inner structure. It is a shame that you cannot find a good donor vehicle from which you could cannibalize such bits to make your life and project easier. Cheers!
thanks for another wonderful video
Nice work Geoff. Tedious work that needs to done.
Was only wonderin yesterday when we mght get an other instalment of ur daily driver. Great work all round. Happy saint patrick day from ireland.
Cant wait for nxt instalment.
🍻
I look forward to and enjoy these video so much. Please keep up the good work!
As Geoffrey slowly marches towards a full overhaul of this Discovery, it's worth noting that he originally bought this Rover as a daily driver until his original Land Rover was finally finished.....
Always look forward to your video releases. Another very interesting installment thank you.
"...video is getting a little long..." What?! I managed to get through only two mugs of coffee! Anyway, nice job. Especially considering the hidden horrors behind the A-pillar skin. I've recently done a similar job on a Hyundai H-1 4x4, and multiple layers of sheet metal without sufficient rust protection (and how can it be anything else?) is a disastrous way to build a vehicle.
Wow, just wow. Good luck
Awesome work man
Nice work.
Great work Geoff. Enjoying your new series. Quick little tidbit: These are not exactly high-demand vehicles in the US. I ran an auto finance branch years ago and repossessed a 2003 Discovery (this was in 2010). During auction inspection they found a blown head gasket. I ran it in the auction for two months and didn't receive a single bid on the truck. I tried to sell the car for $250 to cover my auction fees, couldn't get anyone to buy it. It ended up selling to an independent dealer for $100. It was a loaded model with leather, not a dent on it, etc. I would have bought it but I can't purchase customer vehicles for obvious reasons (conflict of interest concerns).
great work geffory
Your videos make me wanna go pull apart my vehicle and check for rust. They also give me heart palpitations. 😂
Landrover....they must own shares in abrasive disks 😁
Thanks for sharing
Cheers
Complications gives us some hardcore beats, another video and a giggle at your expense, on the upside it's not a project
The greatest youtuber is back! Needed this
Aweosme fab work as ever!
Methinks a nice coat of truck bed liner paint all over would hide any slight imperfections. It really looks good on a jeep.
excellent work
I live in the states and I think I can hear wifey going on about you using one of her doily's at 18:43 ;)
Another great instalment! This time where I've been before you! Discos are great & always need saving if possible - even when they are not a project.......
Remind us what the Disco us for again? Daily driving until the series truck gets finish?
Oorrr is it just me who says those kind of things to my wife?
Great
