    Love the melting snow look. Looking at it, I can remember the feel of cold, wet days like you've portrayed.

    Great tip about sealing the balsa with diluted PVA, I have struggled with that very problem. Yours is the most useful channel I have yet found for dio makers because you so clearly explain what you're doing, and also the builds are top tier every time. Master-level work, sir.

      Thank you so much!!! I’m glad that you found that tip helpful. I only recently started sealing my balsa wood with diluted PVA, but I’ve found it to make a big difference. It means a lot to know that the videos are clear and helpful! Thanks for your kind words and for supporting the channel!

    Wattle and daub is a different technique, like what you used on your medieval tavern diorama. Chinking is essentially the same material, but refers to the material that is used to fill in the gaps between the logs in a log home. I love that you did the dovetail notch, it really adds to the authenticity and looks really great.

    I think it's amazing 👏. Everything looks incredibly realistic, including the patchy snow that you were a bit unsure of. The _only_ thing that seems a bit unlikely to me is the snow on top of the chimney. Unless the cabin is uninhabited, they'd be keeping a fire going in snowy conditions. It would be hot at the top of the chimney, it wouldn't last - especially if it's starting to melt everywhere else. A minor detail

    Just getting into diorama building and there is a long way ahead if I am ever going to tackle anything like this. Just beautiful!
    One question that I'd like to ask is as I've seen PVA+water mix used as a sealant for wood elsewhere too. I made a couple of experiments myself with different ratios, but all my test pieces warped like a cork-screw! Those larger wall timbers of course will endure a lot more than like the door or sidewall upper pieces, is the warping a problem when thinner pieces are glued down to base/wall etc.? Some people also recommend shellac but I don't like the idea of it darkening/staining the wood and am a bit concerned about the acrylic paint working over it.

      Thoroughly enjoyed it. Out of curiosity, why do you stain your wood after gluing them together? I have zero experience so easily could be wrong but I assumed it would be easier to toss all the pieces in a bowl of wash and then glue them

    What's the difference between the Golden modeling paste and spackling?

    • @smolworldworkshop
      @smolworldworkshop  11 місяців тому +1

      They both kinda feel like lightweight foam putty’s, and I’d say molding paste has a softer and smoother consistency when you spread it. However it also shrinks more than spackle
