Awesome. Cassette jam! Yeah sure, I’m aboard. It’s paradoxically a very refreshing performance. It really sounds great and reminds me of some tapes from the early 90’s with ambient music I had no idea where they came from but that I listened for hours and hours. Some alchemy between Trisomie 21, Jam and Spoon and other amazing bands from that era.
I found you this summer just when I needed this beautiful music I don’t know that much about it I just know I love it and it takes me to places I don’t know ❤❤ thank you for what you do! I remember back in the 80’s I pushed back on electronic music as I was from the 60-70’s music genre but my tastes in music has evolved to where I don’t even listen to some of that much anymore.
Thanks! The Sirui lens is wonderful, I've owned it for a long time. I wish it was wider, but the 24mm version isn't great imo. 35mm is the sweet spot for my micro 4/3 camera.
@@the_washington_monument_am9714 The 24mm version I tried was APS-C for my FX30, I did not like that at all, the flares were too much and the f/2.8 aperture isn't great for me. My 35mm is on the micro 4/3 camera, flares and aperture (f/1.8) is almost perfect, it's just too close so I also use the Sirui adapter to go even wider. I love this lens and I expect the full frame 35 and 50s are probably amazing as well!
Of course! When I have something ready. At the moment I don't have anything in the works, but I've been thinking about it. I wouldn't mind doing a follow up to 'Church of the Last Epoch' based on the Syndicate games.
Honest question from someone with no musical background (but high competency with technology and visual arts): if I wanted to start learning how to do this, make ambient music like this, where would I get started? I realize that what State Azure does at this level probably requires years (decades?) of practice, developed knowledge, and matured sensitivity, but I mean how could I take a few first steps if I was curious and wanted to dabble and learn about how it is done? Are there any resources folks would recommend?
If you have no musical theory at all, no keyboard skills, production etc I think you could still get by and start making some nice ambient fairly quickly, as long as it's the kind of unstructured/free, longform type of ambient I made in this video. These days there are tools in both hardware and software, that can constrain your notes to certain scales etc, which avoids you having to understand scales/melodies and chords to some extent. But if I were starting from scratch I would skip that and just learn some basic scales (or just a single easy scale like C minor pentatonic), learn the notes and just stay within that scale. You don't even really need to learn chords or chord progressions for this stuff at first, instead you can focus on the sounds/textures and layering sounds together to build soundscapes. In terms of hardware and/or software there are so many affordable options, but without researching myself I'm not sure what I would recommend and it would depend on yourself, if going a DAW route you might want a basic MIDI/USB keyboard controller unless you just want to paint the notes onto the screen with mouse (it's an option) Check out S1gns of L1fe on UA-cam for some good basic ambient tutorials.
@@stateazure Btw, do you do requests/commissions? (payed of course) I have a kind of special request otherwise. Something that might be out of your comfort zone perhaps. Idk. How do I contact you about it in private? (email doesn't seem to be working, button won't respond here.)
@@WhiteErFox I sometimes do, it depends what the work is. You have to manually copy the email address, either that or you can contact me using Instagram if you use it, but email is the best way.
I will try and release both tape sessions as a single release this weekend via Bandcamp - possibly tomorrow (16th Nov 2024). Stay tuned!
Woohoo love it!
This is what SETI should be broadcasting.

Awesome !👏🏻
I have no idea what you did there and how you did it, but it immediately captivated me.
Yes I'm out there, I can see them, they move in waves, they know we are here, they've been here before...Long ago, and now.
Profound!
