My Father like so many people worked hard all his life so why shouldn’t he claim if he’s entitled to? It’s a shame the system isn’t set up to check what people are entitled to and just pay them accordingly? The cost of benefit fraud is far less than the amount of unclaimed benefits, yet they bang on about benefit fraud creating a climate where some people are reluctant to claim what they are due, that’s if they are aware of everything they are due? Good morning Mr K, trouble with a lot if pensioners is they are put off claiming because they are not computer savvy, or they can’t be arsed to fill in forms. Good news is there is lots of help out there ie age concern, citizens advice etc. First port of call would be the eligibility form on the website. It’s quite straightforward and simple. Morning Dave. Loads of people don't claim Attendance Allowance either. This isn't means tested. They are put off by the application but it really is worth doing if you need help due to illness. I think people are put off because there is a stipulation about it not being for mobility issues but that means transport not to do with being mobile in the home. Can I add that anyone who have children or grandchildren born between 2002 and 2011 and those children are 18 or over they can claim some money that The labour government of the time put in a trust foe each of them. Morning Dave. Very good post as usual. I am not the most patient at filling forms in and so when I retired a couple of years ago I applied for any benefits I might be entitled to on the phone. Pension credits was one which I got and considering the application form was long it took 15 odd minutes on the phone. Staff extremely helpful so anyone who feels they maybe entitled to this benefit phone ASAP.
I was turned off Dave , yeah my pension isn't a lot , but I was forced to resign ,and it stayed stagnant , but what I found ,you got no advice ,when I reached 60 as to what to do , I was given a small lump sum . And the rest I have to live on until I'm 66 , you couldn't feed a mouse on it . I was going to take the lot ,get a camper and leave Britain , but I can't take the lot according to the NHS .
Good morning Roy, well they certainly don’t make it easy for us to claim. But if you get under the the limit, you should be able to claim universal credit until you reach pension age 👍
Actually the government said a few weeks back they are getting a campaign out to get more people to apply, so not quite true. They know a lot of eligible people are not applying, and are trying to help those not fully understanding or reluctant to claim. We all need to help one another. 😊

Apart from this the forms are a nightmare to fill in. They are too proud to ask for help and perhaps don’t have anyone to help them. Yet letters have been sent out regarding winter fuel allowance to pensioners. How much has that cost. My sister retires in just under 18 months with an occupational pension and will receive her state pension. Her statement on facebook read, 'i may have to reconsider my options for retirement due to the non payment of winter fuel allowance ' 😮 I told her, so you are going to carry on working beyond 66 all because of £6 per week. You own your own house, will get 2 pensions, and you want to work until you drop all because when you retire, you won't get this allowance. After a little think she decided shes going to retire as planned. Jesus christ and she got 4 more 'O' levels (11 in total) than me and has qualifications up to her armpits.

Yet letters have been sent out regarding winter fuel allowance to pensioners. How much has that cost.
My sister retires in just under 18 months with an occupational pension and will receive her state pension. Her statement on facebook read, 'i may have to reconsider my options for retirement due to the non payment of winter fuel allowance ' 😮
I told her, so you are going to carry on working beyond 66 all because of £6 per week. You own your own house, will get 2 pensions, and you want to work until you drop all because when you retire, you won't get this allowance. After a little think she decided shes going to retire as planned. Jesus christ and she got 4 more 'O' levels (11 in total) than me and has qualifications up to her armpits.
