"I feel like this is the band that Rammstein wants to be".... that remark made me choke on my coffee 😂🤣
I love this band...the drummer gets the humour, just watch him in every video, he is brilliant
When I saw them live (festival show) I was pretty pleased to see that they all dive in head first to the energy of the comedy. They seem to have the most fun on stage.
I’m not too sure about their history individually but as a collective they have always done some wild stuff. They have a few more serious songs but most are fun like this. I think people are surprised by how talented bands like themselves or Steel Panther are. This video was released at a time last year when lockdowns were everywhere and it was just a scary, depressing time. I think this is just what everyone needed at that time. It’s nice to see people not take themselves too seriously. Great reaction as always!
I can't believe I missed them till now!
@@PrymalChaos it’s never too late. They have been putting out a lot of new music. I read earlier they might change their name because they have been concerned with the fact that “Eskimo” is derogatory. It should be interesting to see what happens there.
@@PrymalChaos For Hypa Hypa they made actually different versions - basically "official" covers made by other bands like Saltatio Mortis for example. These are also very good and a lot of fun.
Even though its not really a genre they are sometimes described as a Partycore band.
PS: Just for the notes - some parts of the song remind me of the 1995 song Hyper Hyper by the German band Scooter (A Happy Hardcore and Rave band). It's not a direct cover, however some elements of Hyper Hyper are absolutely there.
There are 7 versions of Hypa Hypa. The original plus 6 collaborations with different artists in different styles 🤘😊🤘
Other people have said this but I’ll reiterate. THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WEIRD. ALWAYS. Go back into their discography. It’s weird. This song got a bunch of hype. But this band was always like this it finally just clicked.
They found their green I guess.
Oh yeah. No normal band writes a song about a gerbil (or whatever that thing was supposed to be) called "Muffin Purper Gurk". The gerbil *and* the song.
Holy shite, you nailed their origin and history…
A few people have corrected the 'history' a little by pointing out that they've always been a bit kooky.
😂
This is there first song they had after the original lead singer left the band. Nico the new guy does the cleans Kevin does the others. Party core is the style. Pump it was just released week or 2 ago. These guys are hidden gems and there songs are to put a smile on faces
Party Core. That's it! You can tell I loved it.
It's not the first song, after lefting the original lead singer. Just look after MC Thunder II and other Songs within the new leading Singer 😉
In 2020, Michael Starr from Steel Panther featured on Uranus by Italian comedic metal band Nanowar of Steel.
Maybe you'd like to check out Feuerschwanz (German medival rock / metal band) featuring Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum), Thomas Winkler (aka Angus McFife, ex-Gloryhammer) and Alea der Bescheidene (Saltatio Mortis) with their cover of Manowar's Warriors of the World United.
Haha. I'll need to check that out. Sadly I have drifted away from Steel Panther in recent years. Their first two albums will always rock my world. But Michael Star (Ralph Saenz) is a true talent, always has been.
Also I love a good parody band. I'll take a look!
Silly and ironic music like this has a long tradition in Germany. Since the 70s there have always been bands that were just goofing and fucking around like that and having considerable success in the German speaking part of the world. I'm saying that because one of the first and biggest of them was a Austrian band called "Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung" (translated: "First Mutual Uncertainty", a word play on the name of a famous insurance company).
Especially in the 90s satirical and ironic bands were huge in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. There was a pretty successful satirical metal band called "Knorkator", which had songs like "Hurry up you scientists and invent cloning, so I can finally fuck myself!" and other such stuff.
Back then almost all German language music was ironic, satirical or outright comedic. I'm genuinely struggling to come up with successful bands from that time that were totally serious. One comes to mind and even they started out satirical and then later turned serious when they noticed that they were especially successful with teenage girls and young women and they wanted romantic stuff.
So the guys in Eskimo Callboy grew up with stuff like that and thus being goofy and ironic would probably come quite natural to them.
It is almost the default in Germany and serious bands are the outliers.
Wow! That's really interesting. I hadn't heard that. I figured that Germany would be more about "the very serious business of heavy metal".
@@PrymalChaos Yeah, seems like a contradiction or at the very least counter intuitive, since Germans have this reputation for having no humor, but when you think about it a little more, it makes perfect sense, since satire is a perfect way for awkward and shy people to be humorous. It is harder to just come up with something funny and put yourself out there to be judged and criticized. Making fun of something already existing and being ironic and self deprecating comes much easier to people who aren't used to being funny otherwise.
You know what I mean?
If you want to check out what I was talking about, I suggest you look up the video to a song called "Weg nach unten" from aforementioned band "Knorkator".
With that song and the video they made fun of very dark, lyrical and often pretentious slow metal.
Like Eskimo Callboy, they also are (or were) pretty talented musicians. Two of the three had a classical music education and went to a boarding school for classical music as kids.
The vocalist, "Der Stumpen" ("The Stump", because he is so short) has a well trained singing voice and that comes through in their songs.
The lyrics for the "Weg nach Unten" song roughly translate to:
"Under the grass I feed off darkness.
Many days, obsessed and fearless.
Little world my fingers can feel.
Occasionally I find copper, diamonds and granite.
But victorious is the part of me, which draws me on.
Show me the way downwards!
I hate the day, I hate the light!
Show me the way downwards!
Where loneliness reigns.
No mirror to reflect my face.
Comfortable coolness,
lowers the fever inside of me.
The smell of wet earth.
I hear my own digging.
The consistency of the ground is changing.
Did I pass the core already?
No sense of space and time.
Suddenly light and a kangaroo and I know I went too far.
Show me the way downwards!
I hate the day, I hate the light!
Show me the way downwards!
Where loneliness reigns.
No mirror to reflect my face."
It is a short and I think quite enjoyable little song and I think you won't regret taking a look at it.
This is the kind of stuff the guys from Eskimo Callboy will have grown up with and I think it will give you a glimpse into the mindset and the culture that birthed them.
Knorkator also did a fun metal cover of "All that she wants" by "Ace of Base", in case you want to check something out where they sing in English.
well Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung were actually Austrians :P
@@Cherub1m Yes, I said so.
Want to add a honorable mention, well two actually
"Die toten hosen" (maybe not always comical but for sure one hell of a party at their concerts)
And "die ärzte" (a band that can write a song like "Claudia"... and make it funny, needs to be mentioned lol)
I'm a Van Halen, Metallica fan. Got into Jinjer, Eskimo Callboy. WBTBWB Dreh Auf should be your next reaction.
With the amount of requests it's definitely gonna happen.
@@PrymalChaos I suggest more of a WBTBWB. Old stuff, new stuf, pretty amazing band. They also covered this song, slaps 😁🤘
These guys are amazing live too. Can't wait to see them in Brisbane at Good Things in December
Officially, their genre is Electrocore, but most of their fans go with "Partycore". You'll understand once you see We Got the Moves.
Where did they find the outfits? In their wardrobes, I imagine.
You should check out Nanowar of Steel. Same idea only Italian. Norwegian Reggae would be a good place to start. Even more ludicrous lyrics than Steel Panther.
Btw, am I correct in thinking, for colourblind folks, the colours that you're "blind" to don't just look grey or brown or just literally aren't visible, it's more that you can't differentiate between them, so they just look like the *same* colour. Is that right?
oh boy. Now you will have to do the Saltatio Mortis, Sasha and WBTBWB covers of this song.....
I love how you guessed where they were from first try.
😆 it just seemed right.
I think you're the first reactor i've seen who noticed the crab squat, lmao. I always associate it with Immortal, and they're one of my favorite black metal bands, so I thought it was hilarious in Hypa Hypa.
Is that what he was doing? He just looked like a creepy dude sniffing the air. Didn't realise that was stankface.
okay now we butter the bread with butter - 20kmh :D
its german metal as well and very fitting to eskimo callboy
I literally just listened to that for the first time like 15 minutes ago, and I couldn't agree more. That song absolutely slaps.
....and WBTBWB also did an Hypa hypa cover with Eskimo Callboy. 🤘😎
One of the best music videos ever 🛴🔥😂
I’ve lived in and near Hollywood for about ten years…and up until a couple years ago when Hollywood started giving out permits to construct high rise and hotel after hotel…about half of the venues are gone.
You can still go see random famous bands if they decide to play one night at Whiskey a go go and house of blues…but those are really the only places left.
Wait is house of Blues still there? I thought they tore it down?!
Pump it next. We got the moves shortly after. Lol
Yes. pump it Up next.
You addressed Jinjer, you’re here doing Hypa Hypa, next would be the request for Falling in Reverse “Popular Monster”. It won’t disappoint
That's a good choice and a very popular video to boot.
I'll add it to the list.
They’ve always been a electronicore style band! They’ve just gotten better since nico joined.
It just works so well!
@@PrymalChaos that it does! I’ve always been a fan of this style of music, especially being from Columbus, attackattack! Kinda made this style popular, the metal core with electronic pop music. Back in 2007-09 i used to kick it with AA all the time at shows and shit.
Muffin Purper-Gurk is a song by this band that's about 10 years old. Yeah, they've always been on the slightly weard side.
Haha. I'll have to do a deeper dive. 🤘
I remember the mullets (especially permed!) as an 80s kid. I had short spiky hair with a longer back so I was a girl with a mullet 🤣
Awesome!
Jeeezzz. The pauzing?!
Chronologically from here you should react to: We got the Moves, Castrop x Spandau ft. Kalle Kochinsky, and Pump it
They’re all great XD
I've done pump it. It will go live tomorrow at 12pm Sydney time GMT+10
Being Australian, are you familiar with Twelve Foot Ninja? If not, they’re similar because they’re incredibly silly with their videos…but different musicially. (And they have a song with Tati of Jinjer called “Over and Out).
Wait, Twelve Foot Ninja are Aussie? I know the name but I had no idea they were from here.
@@PrymalChaos o_O
As long as you appreciate unashamed FNM/Bungle influences (I love me some FNM & Bungle), you'll deeply enjoy the 12ftNinja rabbithole. The single "Over & Out" with Tati from Jinjer guesting (cleans only, & the vocal arrangements Kin came up with for him & Tati deserve praise) is a good place to start imho. Also, the OMV is my music vid of the year for 2021.... it's not for everyone, but it's an Aussie-tinged #PeakMontyPython *gem* ;)

Gotta check out the We Butter the Bread with Butter colab/cover. It’s as good in my opinion.
It’s a ridiculous deathcore cover it’s so funny and really fucking heavy too.
I'm in!
Agreed. We Butter the Bread with Butter is another german band but with more of a focus on the heavy vs the silly. They are also my favorite electronicore band, bar none. There's another genre to add to your vocabulary, Mr. Prymal. :)
@@PrymalChaos Frankly, check all of the covers. All of them are ridiculous, and every single one is a different style. There's even a Country one.
It was magnum but it’s not ready yet

Thank you for this... No seriously... Thank you. 😆🤘
If you like this mix of humour and metal fusion, try reacting to the Australian Band 12 Foot Ninja. You would like them, especially their collaboration with Tatiana from Jinjer.
Yeah I heard about this. I need to hunt it down!
12 Foot Ninja are a great Aussie band. I suggest starting with “Coming for you”. Very unique and talented band. Enjoy!
Great review. Have you seen anything from Bloodywood? Indian folk metal. You will definitely not be disappointed
ua-cam.com/video/VUUn3KBTk7Y/v-deo.html
To understand the history you could watch "Muffin Purpergurk" (old funcore) and "Bury me in Vegas" (old hardcore, not on the channel though, VERY explicit lyrics). And afterwards MC thunder I+II (fun) and Nice Boi (hardcore, maybe on channel, it's kinda controversial topic in the video). And in the end you go to the Hypa Hypa versions, Castrop X Spandau, Pump it and maybe Hate Love for the Hardcore part ...
And then we go on with WBTBWB (We butter the bread with butter). :)
Ich leg mich auf die Fresse mit 20 Km/h! In diesem Sinne ...
Thanks for the guidance.
7:35 wtf is that casper the friendly ghost
Whoa!
You are now ready for the others video of Eskimo Callboy and We Butter The Bread With Butter^^
I'm in!
Great reaction! A few little tipps: dont make the music volume go down if u talk(or cough at some times), makes it sounda bit strange. Also never.stop.in.the.breakdown :)
You gotta do we got the moves and pump it.
I've done Pump it. We got the Moves shouldn't be too far away. 😆
Go back and do Crystals. Their previous singer but shows a more serious side….
😂😂😂😂🎶
Super Fun!
They’re also very good musicians
Goofy mix, Metalcore meets Boy Bands with freaking “Mullets”
😳✌️
What's not to like?!
These guys have actually been around since 2011 I believe
Took a break from Spiritbox once I saw this.
btw, "Spiritbox - Constance"
This is just fun. That is all. =D
.......Am I to understand that you would like me to react to Spiritbox - Constance? Lol
Coming soooon.
No joke the band makes me want to grow a moustache and mullet. No matter if they use it as a joke or not. It's wild af!
There has never been a better time! Mullet up baby!
Alright, I'm gonna make a suggestion out of left field, straight from the clear blue yonder. xD
Check out Home Free's take on Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. They literally rick-rolled their entire fanbase with it on April Fool's last year, starting Bohemian Rhapsody and then breaking into that... but then they released it for real on April 2nd. It's actually fantastic, in a similar way to this. :D
If you're not familiar, Home Free is an all vocal country band, kind of the country version of Pentatonix (and won the next season of The Sing-Off, after PTX won and started to get huge).
Oh wait! I think I've seen those guys on here. They have done some work with Avi from Pentatonix right? Or am I imagining it? Either way I have seen a country acapella group that totally kicked ass.
EHRE
“Satirical Fuckery”. That should be on the Wikipedia page for Eskimo Callboy.
😂🤘
Aqua + Rammstein?
Yep. That's pretty much it!
Funfact: The first idea for the text if this song was "Hypa Hypa you´re pretty ugly, but I like ya" :D
Hahah.
I was gonna sub anyway but "satirical fuckery" cinched it for sure
Hahah. I actually remember saying that. It came out of nowhere but it fit perfectly.
well maybe not frustrated but just wanted to have damn fun nothing more or less
Yeah. I hear they have always been a bit kooky with their music. This new stuff is brilliant though.
I think you don't quite get the concept of long story short. Short would have been: you went on a trip to LA and by chance saw Steel Panthers live right after they changed their name, released their first album and became successful... Just saying...😂
Apart from your short story I enjoyed your reaction a lot.
Hahaha. "Short story long" is my middle name!
It was an easy thumbs-up anyway, but the L.A. story sold it.
Haha! I miss travelling and seeing bands.
That Steel Panther story is amazing! "Yeah, fuck yeah, dude!" I can totally see it!
I got to see Within Temptation at a tiny venue in Columbus, Ohio before they made it big, maybe 100 people in the crowd, and it was one of my favorite concert experiences because of the intimacy.
Though my favorite was Dream Theater and Queensryche touring Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Operation: Mindcrime, center stage, on the rails, slightly toward Jordan Rudess. Oh my god, what an amazing show! I hadn't heard much Queensryche, and DT was definitely the better sound, but at the end, they played together, both bands on the stage playing a medley of each other's songs, and when I heard Geoff Tate singing Dream Theater songs, and acting as their front man... I mean, I love LaBrie, and DT wouldn't be DT without him, but man, I couldn't help but imagine what DT would be like with a proper front man...
My friends and I lovingly referred to James LaBrie as the Angry Parakeet because of how he sticks his tongue out and pinches his entire face, neck, and being to hit those highs. xD
I also saw Epica at the same House of Blues. (Sadly the venue is gone now)
One of my favourite moments live was seeing Queensryche perform at the Metro in Sydney years ago. sigh.. If only Geoff Tate wasn't crazy as a loon.
@@PrymalChaos I can't even remember the name of the venue in Columbus... I've tried googling it, but to no avail, so I'm sure it's long gone. It was something fairly generic sounding like "The Basement" or something, I dunno.
Still, such a fun concert, even though I didn't know the band at all at the time. A boyfriend of mine was a fan and took me to it.
That's the first time I hear someone using the term 'simplicity' when describing their music, I very much have to disagree, there is nothing simple about these genre transitions, let alone the breakdowns. Loved the reaction though !
Oh no I agree. I haven't watched this one in a minute, but I assume that what I meant to say "perceived simplicity"
Oh buddy, if you want a lil silly metal, please, please, please:
Big Dumb Face, Blood Red Head On Fire (no official video, I advise you pull up the lyrics)
ua-cam.com/video/qpnM5Nk3cJw/v-deo.html
Oh, and if you want to know who this Duke Lion they mention is:
Big Dumb Face, Duke Lion (actual official video, possibly the only one they ever made)
ua-cam.com/video/gd3Y4o95ObU/v-deo.html
(yup, the Duke not be metal at all, yet this is still the same band. That was all the brainchild of Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit, btw. I personally don't like Limp Bizkit tho. I was so surprised that someone from LB would do something so weird and (sometimes) so HARD -although, not all of it hard, like for example, some have weird high pitched voices, one singing about how "Kali is the sweethog," another called "mighty penis laser" idk. It's a very odd, very silly album.
Thanks for the tips! I do like me some irreverent music! The sillier the better. Actually maybe I should finally take a dive into Zappa. I've been putting that off for years!
I'll take your suggestions on board!
It's 2022 and the mullet in Australia is back and even worse than it was before. If the bogan fashion follows, I will be finding the nearest hole to hide in.
F
bla..bla..bla
When your pausing and interruptions take longer than the song, the video becomes unwatchable. Stop it. Watch the damn video and react through it, then go back and analyze/look stuff up later. I'm 4:59 in and I'm stopping. I will not finish this video. Be better.
It just comes down to a matter of taste. I get countless comments telling me that "this is my favourite reaction to X, I love how in depth your breakdowns are.." etc.
I think my reactions just aren't suited to you. No hard feelings. 😉
