- I have been using the Insta360 GO 3s professionally, as a vlogging camera for about three weeks now, and the problems with the camera keep mounting.
- Screws coming loose
- Emaciated storage capacity
- Wildly long pre-processing for free-form video
- Unusable low-light performance
- Long startup time to begin recording
Its.... really bad for someone that needs a dependable camera.
A few red flags for me in this video. You mention you have to add image stabilization in post editing. That's not true at all - The Go 3 has 3 levels of live image stabilization with corresponding delays. Another point - who is recording all day long? The use-case for these cameras typically involves a ski run of like 8 minutes on average however many times you want to actually record. Show me any camera that will record all day and fit in a 128GB storage system and I'll call you a liar for the second time. Final point - people who buy the Go 3 KNOW it doesn't do 4K and are totally fine with it because they are sick and tired of GoPros overheating or just randomly crapping-out for no reason. Can you stick a GoPro to your chest with a pendant? Can you stick a GoPro instantly to any magnetic surface? To lead with "BAD vlogging camera" is a little short-sighted in my opinion. This camera is amazing.
His point is "this is a bad camera IF you are a professional vlogger" most people will find the camera just fine

even then he goes from comparing it with the gopro the entire video to suddenly comparing low light to a SMART PHONE that CHANGES EXPOSURE SETTING to "highlight" poor performance in low light.
Agree that there are a lot of limitations for the Insta360 Go 3S. Personally I feel that this should not be your only camera for vlogging. It is for you to get interesting POV shots. Take shots from places where normal camera won't be able to fit in. It's not meant to be your primary camera.
If you need another camera then you don't need that camera. There are other cameras that do it all and don't require you to carry multiple.
I got this planning to use this as a supplement to Pocket 3.

This camera's product page describes it having automatic aspect ratio export/recording as well as automatic stabilization. So how honest is this review, actually? Would like more information on why these features weren't able to be used. Was it user error, confusing instructions, something else? But to say the camera simply doesn't have these features and you need to spend a bunch of time manually editing doesn't seem accurate.

We also did a review on this camera. We came to a few conclusions.
- this camera works well as a pov camera
- you need sufficient light
- the low light is improved on this model but improved doesn't mean it's great.
- this should not be your one and only camera but more of a complimentary camera to other cameras.
- it's very expensive if being used for solely a complimentary camera
This is so disappointing. The natural conversations, the ability to see what you are working on with two hands, and the opportunity shots by just having the camera on your chest, really made a noticeable difference in the last few vlogs. Hopefully another alternative that is easier to work with comes around.
I have the insta360 go 2 and I absolutely love it. but I agree with you it's definitely not viable as a primary camera for a blogger. It's a great secondary camera and great for getting different point of views

Sorry, but GoPro and Insta360 GO 3s are two completely different products. Yes, they are action cameras but with totally different use cases. A more fair comparison would be to compare Insta360 Ace Pro with GoPro.

Screws will always come undone when vibrated vigorously, that’s why thread lock exists. Clearly a product that wasn’t fully thought through.

Why didn’t you use your gopro in the low light comparison?
Compares Insta360 to GoPro, uses Pixel 8 to show how bad low-light performance is. Not that it matters.
The point is that the low light performance is bad not that it's worse than the go pro.

It is a good review, but i would add a small nuance. A lot of criticism i see about this camera is always comparing it straight with a gopro, sometimes even worse, with a DSLR. The uniqueness of the camera is the size and accessories. It has a smaller sensor than a gopro. The 4/3 ratio is a very special feature mot to be used in all the clips. Also any editing software could stabilize the footage in one click, all at once, in a matter of minutes if needed. This doesn’t take 10 hours. It is not intended to be used indoor as a main camera. I am a little concerned regarding the build issues you describe, but mine is holding just fine. I am not doing anything with big vibrations though. Cheers!
The screws coming out is bad quality control, i'm with you on that one. They should have used some loctite. But about those other points you mentioned. For me, I find it strange that you would even think it could be a main camera to work with professionally. Isn't this camera all about it's formfactor? That small size creating the possibility for you to make more creative shots or wear it with ease. Being that small naturally brings limitations with it. That's just how it works. That you're not happy with that I can understand. But I find it strange it surprises you. Being a video professional for the last 20 years has taught me that you should always offload your footage after a day of recording. Preferably making a backup as well.
If ever you're not using that insta360 anymore... i would love to take it if you give it to me...🙃

Bro, what do you want to say? you want 4k res videos but doesn't consumes lots of space in the memory? And normally when you vlog and edit you really need to transfer it every time. Isn't that what vloggers do really often? Even if it's just half a day 😅
Appreciate the review, I was just about to buy one. The concept seems really neat, but build quality is a huge factor for me.
There are such easy solutions to so many of the so-called problems cited here. Namely: 1) Loctite (those who have gone before you have your back. It usually works on one application. Give it a try!) and 2) The Insta360 Quick Card Reader that's also been out a while -a device that almost any professional (even a professional vlogger) would be using if relying on this single camera for all of their daily footage, and not backing up daily, as most pros do, but instead every few days. But it's p's in a wad reaction of the 2.2 seconds longer power-up time compared to a GoPro that ooozed modern-world whining and sheer laughable. I hope the Tech Gods grant you your perfect world some day bud!
Been using these little cameras for years now started with the go2 as a waterproof thing but not as a main camera. It’s terrible for vlogging. It’s amazing for first person. Hat Moira and catch things your kids are doing. If you use it for what it really is useful for…. It’s great. If you use it for vlogging as your main camera…. Kinda sucks. But hey if you have a smart phone you don’t need a go pro or insta 360 I guess 🤷♂️
Why not manufacture a system for the gopro so that you get the magnet functionality?

The thing it is good at is angles in tight spaces because of the small pod.
And yes the magnetic mount is nice. But I agree that this isn’t a vlogging device. I get about 25 minutes of recording time with the pod, that’s a lot less than I thought.
The exports don’t take as long for me as they do for you. What computer are you using?
I’m on a M1 Max MacBook Pro (32 GB RAM).
I would need to time it for exact numbers but feels like about 10 min to export around 20 min of free form recordings.
The use case scenarios for each camera is also completely different. I bought the Go 3 (128gb) before my vacation so I could get quick action POV shots with minimal weight and setup time using the included magnetic clip for my hat and under shirt. Had bought the Ace Pro I would've needed bulkier accessories to get the same shots from my head/body. Now of course there's a picture/build quality difference between the two given their size. But if I wanted Go Pro/Ace Pro level of quality to vlog my entire vacation, I would've bought the Ace Pro for the $16 CAD price difference.
who makes an action camera that is not waterproof
the camera is water proof, the pod is water resistant.... maybe on the next gen they will fix this I hope
the gopro quality and the way the video looks with all the colors and everything is insane. watching this on 720p and it looks like 8K, without a doubt gopro is the best.

Gopro is trash! I bought the Gopro Hero 12 and sold it literally a month later. Gopro is practically unusable if the sun isn't there. Their app is a joke and practically doesnt work. I have DJI Pocket 3, Dji Action 2, Insta360 X4, and Insta360 GO 3s. I use them all and love them all. Go pro hero 12 was just a joke in 2024.

I mean that's just advertising, you can't really fault the guy for falling for it. Especially with how hyped it is.
Just by having that camera in your hands for 10 min you can see how bad it is, it feels really unfinished, and with cheap material, nothing like a go pro

Great video. Im returning mine to Amazon. First footage I saw with the GoS3 on a hat was not smooth at all. Wondering thoughts on the Insta360 X4 or Qoocam 8k Ultra. Less work to film a good angle

I have not been impressed with Insta360 products either, I had the Insta360 One X2 (which, first of all, wtf is with that name? Could there be a more awkward name?) and the video quality was just bad for the amount of money I paid when it was their best 360 degree camera. There was also a noticeable seam where the views from the two camera lenses were merged into one video. One of the bubble shaped lenses cracked when it got knocked off a table and onto a chair, about a 2' foot fall onto wood that even the cheapest cell phone's screen would have survived. They wanted almost the entire cost of the camera to replace it (like 85% of the original cost).
Which Go did you speak about in this video?
Have you considered something like the dji pocket 3 (creator combo), maybe something like that could fit you? I don't own one, I just saw a positive review, but maybe it's also trash?
Hey Nate, love your videos on the ebike series 😊 And I fully agree with you regarding this insta360 go3 camera. Never liked it that you need to go through special software to get usable footage. You video with gopro looks great! But if you’ll be considering aditional camera for POV shots have a look at DJI Action 2 the square modular one 😉 I use it for my videos, BTS footage while filming comercial and for my travel POV’s. I use 3k square video then I am able to export content for different platforms the way you’ve menioned you do with GoPro square format. I prefer DJI action 2 for its size, wide field of view and quick ease of use. I use it with Quick Shot setting, when I push record it automaticly records 15 or 30 second clip and then turns it’self off. Saves starage and battery and most importantly editing time 😉

@@NanoBytesInckeep in mind, the action 2 does have some over heating issues. They’re not bad, but an impedance that could be detrimental for your filming.

@@NanoBytesInc Nice :D If you have any question regarding of this camera drop me a line. And yes @hyperrborean mentioned a good point regarding overheating issue. If you would be recording longer clips than 10 minutes, it shuts it's self of due to overheating when shooting 4k 60fps. But for me it's not an issue, I use it for quick POV shots, when I know there will be something of interest or I'll want something to shot. So in the end I won't need to go through long footage and find interesting cuts. I push the button, it records what I want, and it turns itself off. Then in the edit I have just the right clips that I need. The sound on it is really good, but when theres a windy situation, you would be better of to stick those dead cat little thingys on the mic holes.
This camera has really small internal storage, but you have an option to offload all the footage while you have a snack to those addons like a screen module o a battery one. Also you can have multiple battery modules to use on the go.
This would be viable option if you see that you could have a benefit from using shorter clips. then, theres no issue for you with overheating and storage.
I think you loosened the screws just for the content honestly lol You should also know how to use the product . The camera has PRE-REC , which means it records like 30 seconds BEFORE you turn it on so you don't miss anything (voice activated as well) . Walking into a dark room , settings are bad and let me see you do that with your gopro . Stabilization might be an extra hassle , but it's soooo stable compared to gopro dude lol And just get a quick reader for the memory issue . I've been using gopros since forever , and I only use go3s now .
So little breakdown :
- First point just unlucky call them if u keepo it its ur fault.
- Second point if you are a content creator you already KNOW how much space a 4k 10bit daily vlog gonna take, I mean they didnt lie to you.
- Third point long processing you alsa know it before buying it.
- Fourth point yup, low light is poort, we got a loyt of test showing this so it is not a surprise.
- Finally fifht one, long startup I agree with you, but again and again that was said it the benchmartks all over the internet.
Conclusion : lot of crying and bullshit right here, you could have search just A BIT to know the pros and cons of this camera and then choose, instead of buying it and complaining after.
Insta360 products are one of the most notoriously overhyped products on UA-cam. It's almost impossible to find a single video which is not an ad; it's super toxic. Especially the Go is just a toy that you can use for taking few minutes long clips, and pretty much that's all. I bought its earlier version, thinking that I can surely take some nice timelapse videos with it during biking, since even a single picture saved every 1-2 seconds would provide great result. But they developed the product in such an incredibly obtuse way that taking timelapse videos uses exactly the same battery life as taking continuous videos... I think I even had overheating related shutdowns a few times when the camera was saving a picture only once per second. Unbelievable.
If you want stabilization baked in literally just shoot in video mode. FreeFrame mode is the equivalent of shooting stills in raw and you’re complaining about your raw footage not being processed.
People talks shit about gopro these days says insta 360 DJI is better , but I been using gopro for 5 years , never had a single problem , very versatile easy to use , I use go pro 11 now

QUESTION: Has this Insta Go 3S justified itself at all by getting critical shots that the other cameras could not fulfill? (I still have the Go2 and for what I shoot with that I do not care about 4K.)

The problems with the camera are coming from the camera. The problem Nate has with his vlog recording are coming from not doing research. Big difference. He is helping us to not make the same mistake.
You are comparing a flagship camera to a 'portable' camera category? The GO3 is NOT a professional vlogging camera, if you want professional vlogging camera you might want to look at the Pocket3. This is kind of like putting a GoPro Session 5 against a DJI Action 4 or even the Ace Pro which are both flagship devices, I bet GoPro users would have something to say about that comparison. First of, the GO series is for a completely different use audience, it doesn't even have the kind of custom settings that the Flagship cameras have including the DJI and Ace Pro. I would say this is apples to oranges comparison. Now, put the DJI Action 4 or even the Ace Pro against the GoPro 12 and let's see how that goes ;)
i bought insta go 3 for its mini mobile camera... i am at peace with it. Only complain is now it is upgraded to 3s...
That's the way it should be bought. It should never be a main camera for professional work, like what his intentions were.
buy some thread-locking fluid in any building store, and use it on screws, it should help.

I would say this is not the best camera for vlogging … but this must be best used for B’ Roll and to incorporate awkward angled shots …. ..But never for vlogging

You can set the stabilizer from standard high or max before recording and it’s very stable. I use it for POV hockey clips. Battery sucks and low light quality poor. Transferring takes time unless you buy the quick transfer adapter plus a micro sd.

as much as you may dislike it, you really dont have to record in 4k i doubt most of us watch it in or even have 4k monitors lol ( this would significantly help the storage part and also perhaps make it use less battery (?))
Filming in 4K has two benefits
The first is if I need to zoom in. Eg, to show a castle in the distance, or the text on a sign
The second is bitrate. A 4K video downscaled to 1080p will look better than the same video filmed in 1080p.
So even if I don't upload in 4K, I still want to film in 4K
