- We finally get a @ford Bronco on our Off-Road home turf out at the beautiful Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area here in East Texas.
Thanks to a friend of our channel, Brandon, we were able to take his bone-stock 2021 Black Diamond Edition Bronco to the red dirt just two weeks after taking delivery.
In this video we talk to Brandon about his journey to ownership as we hit the trails for Brandon’s first time at Barnwell and first “proper” off-road adventure.

I just purchased the Area 51 blue bronco. Just like this one. My first true 4x4. Had a jeep liberty though that don’t count!! I can’t wait to go to the bronco off roadeo ! The 2.3 liter is surprisingly nimble engine.

I'm between this exact one and an outerbanks. Leaning towards the outerbanks, but it's tough! I like the black accents on the black diamond and the stock tires IMO are better too

Impressive for only a rear locker……my wife and I have 2 broncos ..hers is a base model 2.7 with 35” tires and mine is an outer banks 2.7 Sasquatch ….the lockers are a definite advantage.
Her truck has open diffs and I might install a limited slip rear differential at some point but the friction welded gear to carrier makes in an expensive upgrade.
We’d love to do some trail riding like where you are ….fun stuff

It’s only $1300 to buy the front locking differential from the Ford Parts department. That’s what I’m planning for my Black Diamond. 😊

Hmm, interesting……so with the electric locking diff, all ya have to do is wire up an aux switch?
@@markcole6475 that’s correct. I am going to order a new switch panel so that I have the missing switch on the dashboard. It will look stock that way.
I"m seriously thinking to get same one, but I've seem in many forus, diamond hit the belly everywhere at the trail. . It is realky bad we can just jump until 33 inches on this trim. This big truck need those 35 for sure, but 10.000 more , it is not a good deal for an otherbanks
Get a black Diamond with the Sasquatch package and that should help. We noticed some clearance issues without the Sasquatch.
I've taken my stock BD on 32"s and haven't had trouble. Been over some rough and rocky terrain. Only a handful of scrapes. It really matters how you pick your path. If you're bad at it or drive to fast then yeah you're going to have a lot of scrapes. That being sad, having the extra clearance of the sasquatch package would make the trails a little easier.
At minute 4 the rear left is in the air when it is parked at the rut incline and later on during the in cabin recording I don’t see the rear differential locker engaged, did you have to engage the rear diff locker to drive through those ruts?? Thanks
Did not engage the locker for the ruts. We did at a later point.

@@feralc We didn't capture the moments on camera from outside, and may have gotten cut from the final edit, but there was some rock climbing sections that needed the lockers because we would frequently lose one wheel contact with the ground.
@@GTGarageTalk thank you, so the rear locker was only needed for rock climbing, I ordered an Outerbanks without lockers and I was worried that maybe I should had, but I am not planning on doing rock climbing, the most would be sand/snow and maybe ruts like the ones you drove through, I was worried that maybe lockers would be needed for those kind of challenges. @@feralc the GOAT modes should help you through any challenges you may face. They are basically off-road presets for all the hardware on your particular Bronco. there is one for snow and one for mud/ruts that regulates everything from throttle response to the diffs. You should be fine with what you ordered. Completely capable vehicle.
We should have an outer banks for testing sometime in February.

Seriously, who drives around with mud splattered and drying on the windshield? Maybe it didn’t come with wipers and windshield washer fluid lol 🤷🏻♂️🤣

The wipers worked, but this red dirt around here don't play. If we had used the wipers we would have scratched the windshield.... on a two week old vehicle.

It sits higher but I don’t know precise measurements. I’ll ask him for a pic.
The suspension is great on road. It’s where the Bronco handily beats the Wrangler thanks to the independent front suspension.
